Most clubs will at least try to negotiate a lower fee than the buyout. United somehow managed to pay more than the release clause for Dalot this summer.
Kepa will be v good but he's still young which begs the question if you're gonna break the bank why not just trigger Oblak's release clause?
Really enjoying how quickly Chelsea twitter has turned their back on Courtois. Also how much is Real paying for him?
He’s a great keeper and you all will be thrilled with him but he’s never been a fan favorite and never really seemed to care for the club or living in England. Was essentially complaining about leaving Madrid the second he joined up, pushed Pete out, got the GK coach fired (who is considered exceptional), and has been constantly aggitating for a new contract and/or going to Madrid. Him going AWOL and not seeing out his contract (after he said he would at least do that) is the last straw.
Because he's a petulant malcontent? He turned his back on the club although it was easy to see this coming it should've been dealt with weeks, if not longer, ago. Not thrilled we have to break the bank for Kepa but it's better than netting a loss selling Courtois and ending up with Butland. Just glad this Courtois shit will finally be behind us now. It's been tiresome for years.
Everton will be pleased if the Kepa stuff is true. Pickford to Chelsea talk is an annoyance we could do without given the fragile state of our defense.
I felt this way too but watching Bravo play and seeing how Hart has fallen the past couple years has made Edersons fee seem fine
Kepa is an overpay and a reactionary panic buy at that price but I think the devaluation of the goalie has gone a bit far. Champions league spots are worth so much that having a guy who can steal you points is just as valuable as an attacking player outside the top tier of guys. I’m not saying Kepa is that guy but de gea as an example is worth even more than that to United.
You can find plenty that are more than capable for a lot less than what Liverpool and now Chelsea have spent on keepers.
That’s fair and I’d say Keylor Navas fits what you’re saying and I, for the life of me, can’t figure out why no one is linked with him
Normally I'd agree completely but Pool have dropped so many points (plus we can't forget the UCL final) due to shitty goalkeeping that I imagine the Allison fee will be made back up within a couple of years with matches won and points earned, thereby more money earned.
you can try and justify it all you want, but you overpaid bigly. There’s plenty of keepers that are better than Karius but still don’t cost 60+ mil
We overpaid for Kepa no denying that but after watching us overpay for players like Drinkwater and Zappacosta, at least we overpaid for someone with talent as well as high potential.
The problem is we didn’t just lose the UCL final because of Karius. We were completely dominated once Salah went out of the match. No keeper in the world was keeping out Bales first strike. Maybe we could have hung around closer but I’m not sure what anyone saw in that match that makes them believe we could have won.
Also, I think Liverpool would have been better spending say 25 on a goalie and 40 on another central defender. The whole defense got better with VvD got there, why not get another stud to play next to him along with a better keeper.
The good news for Pool supporters is that the last Liverpool signing Ned Yocho claimed to be an overpay was Mo Salah.
What kind of central defender is that getting right now though? Better than Lovren but hard to say that gets a stud when the asking price for Harry Maguire is 65m£
I don't know for sure, my point was more that I think they'd have been better investing the money they did in Allison into multiple players. just my two cents
Having watched Liverpool's clown car of keepers over the past 7 years and then watching De Gea, I actually think elite keepers are undervalued. De Gea probably saved United what, 10-12 points by himself last year?
