I didn't have an issue with her. There was that one scene with Emmit where it initially seemed like they were on a date or something, but it got less weird as the scene went on.
I think you can put on for the camera and still be a good person at heart that goes the extra mile. I think she was a genuinely good person. Just finished episode 5. Malik definitely has daddy issues.
“Tried to be on camera as much as possible”. Yes, I’m going to go teach in fuck stick Kansas hoping one day a Netflix documentary shows up there so I can play it up to the cameras. Life goals achieved.
Yes, I remember when Mrs Wagner showed the players an Emmett Till slideshow. Seemed a little derivative the second time around.
Sorry if I’m not going to judge a black individual getting pissed at her students dropping N bombs with our countries history.
I mean she went out of her way to buy Bobby clothes, teach black history on her own free time and probably makes 28k a year. Sit this one out man
A person can go out of their way when they know cameras are around. Is it really that hard to believe she did that for the camera or a producer told her to do it? Maybe you should sit a play out.
Is it really hard to believe that she is a genuine person? Have you ever been to independence Kansas? Nobody would be there unless they want to be
Again, I think some of y’all are taking this too serious. I think it came across as fake. It could be bad editing or it could be her. If she really is helping these JUCO kids and is really invested in their futures then that’s great. More power to her. I just didn’t care for what I saw. 1.3.2. Relax.
I’ve seen him projected as a 2nd-3rd rounder. Would be cool to see our first Last Chance U alum on a roster
I drove through independence I think when I moved up from Oklahoma. No person would choose to live there unless they were waiting for that Netflix documentary to come one day give and them their big break
Pretty cringeworthy when the radio announcer was getting choked up thinking about them winning that triple OT game....
likely in the minority on this, but I really liked Brown. I had alot of the same thoughts after the first couple episodes, but once the season went on I just think you saw a change both in the way he talked to the kids, and how they responded. When dealing with kids like he does, I think its got to be unbelievably hard to get them to buy in, and based on where he was raised he understands that. He can go nuts and scream, but like he said, where hes from thats just normal and no big deal. I think the conversation he has with Bruce when he is about to leave just shows how much he cares. I also think that having a cancer like Henry around only makes things that much harder, spreading constant negativity.
If you’re brown how do you handle the Henry situation? The guys just broken. He’s not even a douche starting shit to flex, he’s just a whiny teenage girl that feels like he can’t express himself. But you can’t get rid of him because when he’s hot, he’s one of the best QB in Juco.
I think he handled it about as good as he could have. The blow ups probably didnt help the overall relationship but I would be hard pressed to find someone that wouldnt blow up on him. I just dont see a scenario where Malik respected any of those coaches no matter what happened. You just deal with it and get the most production you can. The QB coach undermining him also didnt make things any easier. I dont blame him one bit for not really endorsing Malik and trying to help him get offers. He at least was honest and didnt completely shit talk him.
That’s exactly what I was talking about it. Not to sound like one of those liberal elites, but it’s juco football man, this shit matters less than HS. These kids don’t care about you at all and don’t want to be here, you only know them for MAYBE two years, I just don’t see how you get that invested.
Because it's shitty juco football for some dude who's probably lived in that town his entire life following that team. It's like how people act with high school
For a town that celebrates Halloween spelled backwards, the announcer getting emotional about a football game makes sense.
Did he say on the phone something along the line of Malik could play on Sunday's right now and not fuck up too bad?
Might be a dumb question but why would Indiana not allow the brother back after it was determined he had 0 involment?
reading the thread as I go because whatever but the misreads on the QB coach are tremendous here. his hair is whatever, I have no idea how you make personality judgements off that but the glasses are because he's scared, not because he's a douche. it's the same reason people are walking all over him. he's scared, he realizes he's in over his head, the glasses are a form of defense for him. all that stuff is him putting on airs to cover up for him being scared. re: Pinkard. if it's an act then you could easily make the same claim about Wagner (which clearly wasn't an act either). tons of educators do their jobs specifically for the same reason as those two women: because they care about the kids in their lives. she was clearly picked to be the Wagner because parental figures are, get this, important in even young adults' lives and she is filling that role just like Wagner did and the producers saw a chance to continue with a mom-figure in this season but that doesn't mean she's someone else when the cameras aren't there. you want Wagner to be so unique and organic that anything that resembles what she did is going to come off disingenuous to you by default. there are more people who care about helping students in this world than just Ms. Wagner. also, can't do it forever because there have to be injuries to stars of the show to treat but they should have focused trainer more, her talking shit to the players was good. thoughts on JB have been more than covered by others. he's the midlife version of most of those kids, there's some good and bad to that.
She appears to just be driven to make sure young black men aren't pieces of shit that she comes across. Its a little preachy and over the top at times but I'll allow it. Its probably a little awkward for the white students in the class with the players that get caught in the crossfire. I think you know how to handle that situation or you get the heck up out of JUCO. It didn't appear to be anything unique.
My well thought out, unique, and necessary takes: -JB is well intentioned but a product of having zero family in his life and clearly an alcoholic. I also thought he grew throughout the season but that was probably editing. -His worst coaching decision was trying out Carlos at WC right when you could tell an extremely fragile but talented Malik was gaining a bit of confidence -Announcer was my least favorite character -According to 247 Bobby has never received an offer, even out of HS, yet he thinks he’s playing on Sunday. -Even if Kingston didn’t really seize the opportunity, recruiting both he and Rakeem to the same juco seems kinda shitty, but I don’t know how it played out -Isaiah got Brendan Dassey’d
