Interesting.... https://www.gq.com/story/look-at-th...rector-of-true-detective?mbid=social_facebook Look at This Mindfuck of a Trailer for ManiacFrom the Director of True Detective BY LUKE DARBY 22 hours ago MICHELE K. SHORT/NETFLIX Netflix's Maniac looks, well, insane. Spoiler Jonah Hill and Emma Stone have reputations as pretty funny actors, even with their occasional jaunts into more dramatic stuff. But neither of them have appeared in anything as insane-looking as Maniac, the new Netflix original series from True Detective director Cary Joji Fukunaga that looks like a mash-up between Mindhunter and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Hill and Stone are subjects in an experiment to learn more about the human mind, specifically to try to "solve" it, according to the scientist behind it, played by Justin Theroux. But it quickly escalates into "multi-reality brain-magic shit," in Stone's words, and the extremely '70s looking facility soon gives way to car crashes, cartoon koalas, and Lord of the Rings-esque fantasy scenes. The first episode of Maniac premieres September 21, and so far there's no reason to suspect that Michael Cera will make a cameo to complete the Superbad reunion.
Is it in English? Or German, but dubbed in English? The trailer looks like an old Kung Fu movie wrt the dubs.
It's on my list of stuff to watch. I need to win the lottery so I can retire and actually get all the shit watched that I want to watch.
And Maniac might just be a day one watch for me. And the rare weekend where I have no home games to work so I'll actually have time to finish it off then. This is one of the more interesting looking things that has popped up on TV in a long time.
I watched a good bit of this the other night. Michael Pena isn't a lead actor to me. Wasn't natural at all in this.
Watched The Adderall Diaries last night. Somewhat of a funky film tbh. I definitely fall somewhere in the middle of liking and hating it. On a good note, Amber Heard shows her boobs a lot in this film.
I turned this one off after 40+ minutes. I like Michael Pena a lot. But this seemed very hokey to me.
I found that to be a real confusing trailer, which made me go to Rotten Tomatoes to see the score....
I looked at that after watching the film. It certainly has its flaws. Which is why I'm curious about the 96% on Netflix.
Why is it called "The Adderall Diaries"? So what did you like? Cinematography? Music? Action? Dislike... Gaping plot holes I'm guessing?
It's based on a book by Stephen Elliott. It's a mix of memoir and a true crime story about the Hans Reiser murder trial. Cinematography and styling of the film. Frankly, I'm a sucker for A24 films. So I immediately thought this would be up my alley. The plot holes were just all over the place and the film didn't seem to flow properly in some aspects.
This is true. Some critics will never have anything good to say about Netflix programs. Especially films.
Maybe because of Okja and Beasts of No Nation I always thought critics tended to like Netflix movies that tried to take themselves seriously.
What do you think of it? I am curious because the opinions are a little all over the place. I loved it, it’s one of my favorite and can’t wait to see next season
Just watched. This episode is the best black mirror has to offer? Yeah I’m officially out on this show
I liked the one where they register everything through their eyes, white Bear was good too. But it’s up and down.
Probably stopped at the exact same point. Spoiler I don't think there was enough build up in the beginning. I kept waiting for the invasion to be a dream because it seemed to happen too suddenly/early in the movie. And yeah as I said a few posts up Michael Pena isn't a true lead imo. I felt like I was watching him act, instead of watching a movie, if that makes sense.
The main character has an issue with prescription drugs. Which screws up his memory with actual event. It's loosely connected on a memoir and actual crime.
San Junipero is about the afterlife playland with the two females. Hang the dj was the dating app/VR world.
Because i don’t find it as good/entertaining as people make it out to be. Certainly not the “best hour of television”. I prefer the darker black mirror episodes
