Gonna be awkward when psg knocks Real out and they don't even have a second tier trophy to compete for.
lol the no call on the 2nd goal, despite the side official twice telling the referee it was a foul on Suarez, was comically bad. Deapite that and the painful no call on Alba Madrid sure are fortunate to get all the calls all the time /butbalestackleblahblahblah
lol the Spanish FA and Rubiales in particular are so fucking inept. First canning JL, then rushing to hire Enrique and now this shit. cliffs: Despite protests from one of the participants the FA decides to change the Spanish Cup format from a 2 leg home & home to a one off match at a neutral site even after the dates had already been set. The natural site for a Barca-Sevilla match? You guessed it, Morocco. Spoiler Sevilla and Spanish FA in Bizarrely Dramatic Dispute Over New Spanish Super Cup Format This year's Spanish Super Cup will be played out over the course of a single game as opposed to the usual two-legged affair. The RFEF announced on Monday that the clash, set to take place between La Liga champions Barcelona and cup runners-up Sevilla, will be held at a natural venue on August 12. Sevilla, though, aren't happy with the decision and had previously rejected proposals made by both Barca and the federation due to them wanting a two-legged tie - as the competition has been since its resurrection in 1982. The RFEF met with both clubs last Thursday with the aim of finalising a date, but Sevilla remained opposed to suggestions regarding a change in format. "Due to the difficulty in finding dates in the calendar, the RFEF proposed to the finalists to play a one-off game at a neutral venue on Aug. 12," an RFEF statement read. "FC Barcelona favoured it while Sevilla FC wants to maintain the event as a two-legged final. Faced with this scenario, the RFEF will put the case forward in its executive committee meeting on July 9."The Super Cup has been played out over two legs since its inception in 1982, but it will be cut in half this year and reduced to a solitary match as the clubs were unable to reach an agreement, leaving the decision in the hands of the RFEF, who made their announcement on Monday. "It has been a unanimous decision made by the committee to play the Supercup as a single game on August 12 on a neutral ground," RFEF president Luis Rubiales said on Monday (via Marca). "The most likely venue will be Tangier [Morocco]. "We considered other options such as Valencia and Madrid but the financial aspect wasn't there. The temperature in Tangier will be suitable as will the financial aspect. "One of the clubs wanted a financial compensation of €950,000 and playing in Tangier that figure will be more than met. But we have to wait for FIFA's approval."
La Liga playing campaign matches in the US. Hell ya. Wish they would come to Dallas but I imagine this will all stay on the East Coast.
Barca and Madrid will play here once before they start leaving their first XI at home for the game and nobody will go see Betis v Granada or whatever they bring over here after that. Desperate move to try and keep up with EPL revenues.
You know it will be Real/Barca/Atletico vs a lower league side who will lose a home game. There is no way Madrid or Barca rest players, they have been pushing for this market. This is about getting a huge TV deal and getting off Bein sports. Would I go to Miami to see Barca/Madrid vs Alaves? Fuck yes I would.
We will see about that. In the current environment star players are never more than a week or two away from long distance travel for international duties or European competition. Throwing in a show piece on the other side of the world which any of those teams will be able to win with primarily their second team? Messi, please fly to America to play this game, then get on a plane to fly to China so the AFA can profit off your back, and then come back to Barcelona for a game at the weekend, and then we’re heading to England for UCL in the mid week. I’m sure they’ll definitely send their star players around the world in 10 days. Oh and good luck with the average American fan giving a shit about the difference between the ICC and La Liga match day 15. We are there to get a glimpse of Messi kicking the ball, I am not concerned why he is kicking the ball. Sorry to rain on the party, this just smacks of the idiots that run Madrid and Barca being idiots for the next dollar without thinking about anything other than that next single dollar.
If you're trying to get the full on Messi experience, should probably just do it right and head to the Camp Nou. I think several people would be thrilled seeing team and talent levels that far surpass what the MLS is able to offer.
The same idiots that have won the last 5 Champions League trophies? The same people in charge of the league that has dominated European competition for the last decade plus?
Yes, those ones if you think they are who have lifted the trophies and dominated Europe for a decade and not the players whom they have had to resort to games in America to pay. Don’t be dense.
the league can be hilariously mismanaged and the top 2 teams can be amongst the best in the world. those things aren’t mutually exclusive
Ridiculous goal scored by Morales (Levante) against Betis last night on the opening day. https://streamja.com/Q20W
