We started with iPads, but they got too costly to fix and purchase apps for. Apple certainly was no help with the management aspect of it. We're full Google Suite since 2014; so much easier to manage too.
The yearly tradition continues tomorrow. It is the 10th annual “At Least 1 Person Gets This Insanely Easy Question Wrong” Jamboree. For the uninitiated, the question, just after watching the film mind you, is: What building does Kong climb to the top of in New York City? At least 1 person gets it wrong EVERY SINGLE YEAR
Had open house last night and our 6th grade blew up in size. Had 66 last year and there are 103 this year
Is it bad that I’m one of my problem kids gets a class 3 after an incident today in another teacher’s class?
seems like every one of your posts in here is shitting on your kids when they inevitably act like kids. just venting or are you miserable? hope it's not the latter- shit's not healthy bruv.
Anyone else seeing some fairly alarming issues cropping up with any of the “Fortnite is life” kids? Some of them would make good extras in a Romero movie.
The King Kong question thing is one of my favorite parts of the year. I enjoy it. Not sure how that comes across as seeming miserable.
Asked this question on my test, your bill of rights consist of how many amendments? Fuckers put 12, 14 and even 16. However, they can tell me the 3 major enlighten despots during the enlightenment period
Happy 6th anniversary to the craziest thing that ever happened in my class...”THE ONE ONE WERE” incident
So is my employer. Now I have to talk to co workers about shit I would never even talk to them about.
This dude may have been posted somewhere in here, I didn’t go through to see. He is a principle that moonlights as a comedian with educator related humor. My wife and all her teacher friends think he is hilarious
https://www.gofundme.com/help-megan-heal-tragic-accident Mom of an awesome kid at my daughter's school Anything will help.
Have y'all seen the preview for this movie Night School? Looks pretty funny to me as a teaching person
I charge 25 cents for pencils in my class. One student told me he wasn’t going to buy one even though he didn’t have anything to write with. He held out for a good 20 minutes before paying up
With the way it seems to be going, writing will be obsolete in 20 years. My students actually write about once a week. All the rest of the time they're typing.
Dear School Board Members, As educators it is our solemn responsibility to make sure our students do not fall in harm’s way. On October 11, 2018 the staff of REDACTED Middle School submitted a five-page letter of grievance outlining the state of crisis that currently exists at the school. We asked for upper administration and school board members of REDACTED to meet with the REDACTED staff and present their plan for immediate resolution to the issues we presented. Twelve days later, we have heard no response back to our request. The announcement of a three-school, mid-year principal shuffle has only created more disruption. Word is spreading in the community regarding the situation at REDACTED. Given the gravity of the situation, we believe it will soon become a community wide issue. This will certainly negatively affect the image of REDACTED and the middle school transformation efforts, and we are deeply concerned. I have copied the original request below for your perusal. We are looking forward to hearing from you. REDACTED REDACTED Building President REDACTED Middle School REDACTED Middle School is in Crisis October 11, 2018 Grievance: REDACTED Middle School is unsafe for Staff, Students, Parents and Visitors. The hallways are unsupervised for much of the school day, creating unsafe learning and working conditions throughout school. In addition, preparation for the Middle School Transformation has been inadequate. Required staffing and curriculum are not in place at the 6th week of the school year. On October 10, 2018, the staff of REDACTED Middle School met in a series of emergency meetings to assess the state of our school, identify a partial list of issues, and file this grievance. Since the first day of school on September 4, 2018: +800 ODR’s +120 Out of school suspensions +15 staff injuries caused by students 5 calls for police assistance on Friday, October 5th 10 students removed from city bus by police outside REDACTED Students regularly and actively resist/ fight against the police resource officer. Multiple assaults against students, including a student hit in the head by a thrown metal stool. HALLWAYS REDACTED Middle has no hall monitors. They were cut from the budget. Sections of hallways are unsupervised or under-supervised for much of the day. Unsupervised students occupying the upstairs 8th grade hallways have smashed out 2nd floor window screens and were observed sitting on window ledges with their legs hanging outside of the building. Multiple groups of students are regularly out of class and in the hallways unsupervised. Students observed making out in hidden hallways. Unsupervised students from the hallways enter classrooms to disturb classes and assault other students. Teachers are locking their doors from the inside to keep students safe. Unsupervised students from the hallways enter custodial and construction areas and search for unlocked classrooms. Unsupervised students regularly leave school and return undetected. Unsupervised students smash out door louver panels. Unsupervised students walk the halls kicking doors and yelling into rooms. Unsupervised students regularly enter the Library, Gym and Tech Ed lab. Unsupervised students hide in hallways and bathrooms during class time. Unsupervised students in the hallways and bathrooms use Facebook Live, Snapchat, Instagram, and other apps to record and broadcast their activities. Increased displays of gang affiliation in hallways. Students regularly punched/ hit/ pushed in the hallways Fights between unsupervised hallway students spill into classrooms. Hallways are overcrowded with students running full speed among the staff and students. Many people are crashed into by the runners. One teacher was stabbed in the arm with a sharp object in the hallway. Students who are skipping class ignore or cuss out teachers who insist they stop disrupting and go to class. Parents are entering the building without checking into the office. They are skipping the long lines in the office and going directly into classrooms. Some parents wait outside the building to confront students. Students assigned to ISS walk out and roam the halls. CURRICULUM Class sizes of 46 and 49 in 5th hour Gym The new weight room is being trashed. Three machines have already been broken. Out of control students are unsafe in a room with free weights. The divider wall the big gym is broken. With no ability to physically divide the classes, the gym can contain more than 100 students supervised by two teachers. 38 students in Spanish class Of 3 computer labs, one and a half are down 240 Unassigned Chromebooks assigned to REDACTED, only 171 are working 31 students in a Dual Language class. One teacher to cover four subjects. A new student was turned away from enrollment because the program is “full.” But this was a two-teacher program last year. Science/ Math teacher position not filled in 8th grade. Title I Reading Teacher (50%) position not filled. Required technology for Read 180 missing- No Elmo or Smartboard (it was requested in May 2018) Some classrooms are so overcrowded that there is no room for additional desks. Dual Language Science classes were switched to on-line curriculum, but there is no reliable or regular access to computers to access the curriculum. 7th grade Science class moved to a classroom with no science equipment. No access to Science textbook written in Spanish for Spanish speakers in Dual Language classes. Graphics in teacher curriculum package are not translated. RUSD purchased science curriculum texts for dual language that are English only. The curriculum is partially available, on-line only. The Business and Computer Ed class does not have a projector for group instruction. OFFICE The main office is often the scene of violent outbursts and open physical confrontations between students, staff and the police. Angry parents yell at staff. Teachers call the office for help, but the phone goes unanswered because office staff is busy with other callers and the parents at the counter. Teacher calls for assistance are answered, and no one is available to come. Truancy letters have not gone out because there is no one to do them. Clerks are working through breaks and lunch to keep up. They work past 6:00 pm and on Saturdays, but they still can’t keep up with the increased volume of work related to the increase in student population. ISS can have as many as 17 students in a small room. Many of these students are very upset and violent. They often fight. The classroom next door is regularly disrupted by the extreme noise in ISS. Calls for help in ISS go unanswered. The assistant feels unsafe when groups of kids turn on her. Classrooms are constantly interrupted by all-call PA interruptions for kids to go to the office. There are no available hall assistants to find kids or drop off messages. CUSTODIAL/ BUILDINGS & GROUNDS Movable bleachers in the Gym ripped off the wall. Door closer ripped off doorway. Window screens torn and smashed out. New graffiti every day in halls and bathrooms. Drinking fountain stomped off the wall by a student who was standing on it. Outside doors propped open by unsupervised students. Constant interruptions to regularly planned work for the emergency clean-up of blood from fights. Outside HVAC contractor nearly knocked off a 12-foot ladder by fighting students. Contractors are working on ladders in the hallways during the school day while students are walking/ running past them. Custodians caught in between fighting students. Custodians verbally abused by unsupervised students. Unsupervised students hourly throwing food in hallway floors, walls and ceilings. Unsupervised students dismantling and destroying hall lockers and metal trim. Some classrooms are so badly trashed at the end of the day that the custodians cannot finish their required rounds in the allotted time, requiring overtime. Students are rushing the cafeteria line, threatening the safety of the food workers, and going behind the cafeteria counter to steal food. Condiment packs stomped in cafeteria and halls. Juice packs sprayed on floors. Self-serve fruit thrown all over floors. The grounds have so much litter that both 1st and 2nd shift need to go out to pick up trash. SPECIAL EDUCATION Lack of separate spaces for students to take tests or calm down. Required pull-out minutes established in elementary school IEP’s do not work with the middle school schedules. Several severely low performing students who do not even know their last names or basic sight words are placed in team-taught classes. REDACTED supervisors who are not familiar with the middle school schedule have unrealistic expectations. Lack of technology access for Special Ed students, and the entire school. Halls are too unsafe for Special Ed students. There are too many fights, students roaming unsupervised, and a general lack of order, safety or predictability. There is no police presence after 6th hour. Calls for police must be made outside the school for the last two hours of classes and dismissal. Resolution: Begin with a meeting between upper levels of administration, Board of Education members and the staff of REDACTED Middle School where the Upper Administration presents their plans for the immediate resolution of these problems. REDACTED REU Vice President REDACTED Middle School -- REDACTED
How much of a shit show are things due to kids being shitheads? I went to catholic school from k-12 so I can’t fathom these type of issues.
They got rid of a couple middle schools over the summer, shipped everyone together, mixing the overwhelming bad with the good.
