Yeah they do. And this one is pretty awesome so far. Love how they've morphed Ryan's original backstory into the modern time period

 

It's awfully Hollywood in places imo
but still quite entertaining.

 

Dina Shihabi Has some thangs on her.

 

Abby Cornish also has some thangs on her.

 

Shit is honestly pretty average.
I don't like Krasinski in the role.
Pierce is predictably dope.
The plot is really silly and predictable in a number of places.
Meh.

 

I mean the books are ridiculous in that manner too. There's a world changing event non stop

 

Never read the books so my only comparison points are the old films. I suppose it's possible that I was just younger and easier to entertain back then, but a lot of this just seemed really ham fisted and cliche.

That said I did appreciate the use of the refugee situation. That decision made it truly of our time and place and was unique for the genre imo

 

I've read like all 20 or whatever of them and this story line is relatively tame compared to the shit those dudes routinely save the world from

Right. It's a little stretched but if you read the books, especially like post clear and present danger or so, you'd be like "wait why... Yeah that fits"

Finished it this morning. Both my wife and I really liked it.

Did I miss something with the drone pilot or was that a side story that had nothing to do with the plot?

That plot line seemed pointless unless it sets something up in season two.

 

They've got to have that in mind because the books are the longest set up in history

 

Through 4 episodes and we like it so far. This isnt an all-timer but it keeps me entertained for an hour.

I ordered the hunt for red October after watching, going to start it soon

 

Hunt for Red October is a normal length book, but the rest of them are enormous. Not something you want to see when you embark on a 20+ novel series

I gave it a 7. There are so few decent shows out there that I was happy to have something I wanted to watch till the end. I will definitely watch season 2.

 

Finished last night. Ending seemed rushed and felt they could have spread it out 1-2 more episodes but overall I liked it.

I think they do a good job of really exploring the characters on both sides, even considering one side is a terrorist organization. The opening scene (and then the closing scene of Episode 1 tied to it) does a great job of setting up the season.

 

I'm on episode 4, but my initial take is that the Night Manager and Looming Tower are both superior shows.

Good acting and enjoyed it overall but some of it was just ridiculous

The most wanted man in the world passed through US customs right after poisoning the president. Fine with some reaching but that's just absurd, the stuff with the drone guy sucked too.

 

I’ve read about 10 of the books. They’re all excellent. Some are pretty ridiculous in how they tell the future. The FBI investigated Clancy on a few occasions thinking he was receiving classified information from leaks.

Debt of Honor
The Cardinal in the Kremlin
Rainbow Six
Executive Orders

Red Storm Rising and The Bear and the Dragon are standalone and are in my overall Top 5 though. They’re incredible.

I obviously can not confirm this but there’s always been a lot of rumors that had substantial smoke. Apparently since Clancy had no military clearance or background when he published his first 3 or 4 books and they were so detailed and mostly accurate as to how the United States armed services and intelligence agencies worked (supposedly accurate down to the last detail) he was detained by the CIA and questioned for hours because they assumed:

A)He was a Soviet Spy

B)He had come upon some kind of classified materials at his disposal that he obviously shouldn't have

or

C)He was working closely with an informant from inside of the military or CIA, which would be treasonous.

It turns out he was just a hobbyist and read extensively about the operations of United State's foreign policy. After this misunderstanding he apparently went on to give lectures and work closely with the armed services.

Again I have no idea how accurate or inaccurate this story is, it's just one of those legends about Clancy that I've heard and read about from more than one person. Take it with a grain of salt.

The most interesting part of it all is how surprised US officials were at how much unclassified information was available thru libraries (pre-internet era), and how that could be assembled into reasonable estimates of classified tech.

 

It was probably my favorite book along with Rainbow Six in that world. Clark’s story arc is incredible.

 

I couldn’t put Red Storm down though.
