just tear down your house for access, then rebuild changing all the little things you wish you had done differently the first time
We debated getting some land vs. what we actually chose. For us it came down to higher density of homes = greater chance of my kids having friends close by. On my street alone my 7 year old has two classmates. When I was growing up I lived in a small cookie cutter neighborhood and it was a ton of fun as I had a bunch of friends very close by and as a result we were always outside playing. I remember when I was younger I was excited about dorms and apartments, now I wouldn’t be caught dead in apartment...the footsteps above me, listening to someone else’s music/tv through the walls, the shared parking, etc. As we all grow up I think it’s natural to try and take a step back from society, get some elbow room, live on some land without neighbors on top of you. But the more land I get the fewer neighbors I will have and the fewer potential friends my kids will have close by. So we tried to find a neighborhood that was nice but dense because our kids being happy is our number one goal. And that’s how I wound up in beautiful River Rock Ranch.
Is there only 5 to 6 feet between houses on the side or is only 5 or 6 feet yours, so like really 10 to 12 feet wall to wall?
The latter. BUT, either mine or a neighbor’s AC units are laying on a concrete pad on either side of the house. So ripping down the fence, max width between my foundation and the concrete slab for the AC’s is about 6’10”.
That should be wide enough to get a rubber tire backhoe through - the problem is gonna be getting all of the rock/dirt out, because that’s probably not wide enough for a dump truck to get back there.
Do an indoor pool. I’m sure you have plenty of extra square footage. Include a full on grotto as well. Throw in a devine’s bar and we got a stew going
One thing I forgot to mention is i am on a downslope to the earth on the side of my house. It is at a severe angle and anything going through will also be at an angle leaning downhill as it passes by the AC units. So the true width is even smaller, maybe 6’ tops when you factor that in.
More likely my neighbor isn’t getting one so I don’t feel the need to do it anymore. He stripes that check if the Jones next door do too.
signed paperwork today No slide. It was universally negged on this thread and upon reflection it didn't make sense. We added some other small features for the kids and wound up at $72,148. This price included entering through my neighbor's back yard which is not going to happen. So they decided on the side of the house. They tried to add 6k because they were only going to be able to use small machinery to dig and I am in straight rock after a few inches of digging. I held firm and they immediately came down to $74k. I said lets split the middle and settled on $73k flat. So basically my flaky neighbor cost me $850 or in reality the full $73k as this pool was his essentially his idea. Regardless, we immediately filed with the HOA today. Hopefully that takes no longer than 2 weeks and then we are looking at 2-3 months after that to be finished. Can't wait to take an October swim.
I told you going with Hayward equipment was a bad idea lechnerd . It has in very short order turned your once beautiful pool into a pond.
You should have pushed the pool back further like previous poster stated. You have almost no walkroom.
Getting a hoop for our pool was a great call. Kid loves to dunk when I hold him up and when it is just adults a crazy game of HORSE ensues.
Can't. We have a 10 foot setback against the back fence. Nothing can be built in this easement. We had our first two proposals rejected by the HOA for this very reason.
Nah we wanted a dense neighborhood. Easier for the kids to make friends and greater chance they will have someone in their class at school that is close by. My 7 year old has 3 classmates this year on our street alone. Cookie cutter neighborhoods have their drawbacks (HOA's and neighbors on top of each other) but the positives of my kids having friends close by outweighed all that.
Tight pools We had one growing up. I liked it as a kid and especially as a teenager when I would use it to go skinny dipping with attractive ladies but I am far too cheap to have one as an adult. Plus we are not having kids and we would never use it. Makes sense for people with kids tho. Lech Jr will def get laid in that thing at least once
Pool guys are trying to shoot gunite tomorrow. There will be rain all morning and then a brief stretch of no rain in the afternoon followed by heavy Thunderstorms tomorrow night. This is a bad idea right?
I wouldn't let them. Probably worried that what they've dug and formed up will get messed up by the rain so they want to go ahead and spray it and then just pump the water out later. No way I would let them spray over wet ground.
