I know nothing about the finance side of this. Why would a company like Amazon, which has AWS and its dominance in online retail (among whatever else), be mentioned with a company like Tesla?
It’s 2018 and we’ve been in the longest bull market run ever and people find Tech stocks overpriced (because they are priced for growth). Growth companies are naturally going to attract more short interest because their stock is priced for future growth that hasn’t happened yet. And if that growth were to suddenly stop or wane then you would see the stock price suffer. Amazon is still growing, same as Tesla, Facebook, etc.
I'd also say that Amazon takes a lot of flack from politicians on both sides of the aisle (and around the world really) and that I wouldn't be surprised if someday action was taken to try to break it up in some way.
They already screwed up allowing foreign sellers on Amazon US. By that I mean cheap Chinese knockoffs.
Elon might have the biggest carbon footprint of anyone in the world He commutes to work in a pj So give me a break on the climate warrior bs

Tesla production picks up in the past few days as end of record quarter approaches https://electrek.co/2018/09/14/tesla-production-model-3-picks-up-record-quarter/
how is this curbing climate change again? how were investments in sizzler and in a risque night club with dancers in lingerie for the betterment of humanity? even with tesla, how does allegedly stymying reform within the plants (over unions or safety concerns) help humanity? #stopheroworship
You don't really think comparing this one-off picture to an entire industry he's helping to develop is a good point... do you? That's the kind of logic used by people who mock global warming when there's a blizzard. Edit: And lest I be accused of anything, I think he's a piece of shit.
i think, "Tesla cars are good for the environment!" is not an adequate defense for a company committing financial fraud. Hell, it may just lead to rationalizing the fraud. "We need to commit fraud because our company must exist to save the planet." Opportunity + pressure + rationalization.
Go look at @teslacharts twitter feed. He is listing the Elon lies It will be hundreds of tweets long Amazing
i'm as bored of elon musk as anyone, but a lot of the country still gets electric power by burning coal. that's not really a problem with tesla or electric cars in general
For Mr. Noble, the biggest doubt about Tesla is whether consumers are actually clamoring to buy its cars. The company has reported that more than 400,000 people have paid deposits of $1,000 each to reserve Model 3s. “That suggests that every car they make has a paying customer waiting for it,” Mr. Noble said. “That is the heart of Tesla’s story. That’s why people buy the stock, because it looks like they have unlimited demand.” But some recent actions by Tesla suggest that may not be the case. The weekend after Labor Day, it held a “sales event” at its plant in Fremont, Calif., allowing deposit holders to stroll among several hundred cars and pick one to buy. Hundreds more have been parked for weeks at lots in Burbank and Lathrop, Calif. On Friday, Tesla sent an email to customers and deposit holders inviting them to test drive a Model S or X overnight — the kind of marketing event that car companies organize to drum up sales. “That’s inventory,” Mr. Hoffman said. “Everything they produce is supposed to be delivered or in transit on the way to the customer. If there’s nothing wrong with demand, why are there all these cars in Burbank? Something doesn’t add up.”
So now NYT is willing to quote someone who thinks Elon is lying about the deposits Guess it’s not just twitter shorts after all
The reason for all of musks bullshit pumping over the weekend is they thought the article was going to be a lot worse
I don't disagree with their points, but sweet Jesus at using Mark Spiegel as an example of a short who "just looks at the numbers." Dude was on Twitter last night speculating that Musk blackmailed someone so that they wouldn't ask him a tough question. Edit: And this part is completely true. The only reason I follow this stuff now and post in this thread is because you've never seen a negative story you didn't like (regardless of the credibility of the source) nor a positive one you believed was true.
Company who sells stuff does things to sell more. Company who sells things, attempts to push customers into higher cost products vs have them wait on backorder
Tesla's Musk is sued by Thai cave rescuer Unsworth: court records https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...-rescuer-unsworth-court-records-idUSKCN1LX26N Deserved.
Well deserved. Be interesting to see if he attempts to fight this (using what proof??) or just writes a check
That would be admitting you're wrong and backing down. That's not Elon Musk. I'd be surprised if he doesn't respond via Twitter today and double down.
Paying someone off isn't admitting wrongdoing. It's avoiding the time and cost of litigation most of the time imo
With it being so public, it would look like he was admitting he was wrong to the public. He literally called the guy a pedo and used the fact the guy hadn't sued him as proof that he was right. If he now backs down from the lawsuit, he's admitting he was wrong. That's not how Musk typically works.
I understand public perception but it's not just a public thing. You have to look at what you expect to spend in litigation and potentially having to actually admit wrongdoing if you go to trial or, you can spend a year in discovery only to settle for a similar amount + all the attorneys' fees accrued. Unless he has stone cold evidence this dude is a pedo he needs to pay the guy off and make it all go away now because he'll be paying him off regardless if not.
Well yeah he's obviously unhinged to at least a reasonable extent but he's still a business person and this is a dollars and cents decision.
perfectly willing to admit that i have no idea how this will play out. first time i've seen someone dare another party to sue them on social media.
Fair enough. The other strategy that would actually be reasonable is to drag this out as long as possible, like several years. Lots of folks get litigation fatigue.
True but I can't imagine someone that'd set to get tens of millions of dollars and clear their name from being publicly called a pedophile multiples times would get fatigued and just drop it.
