So I rent but I figured this thread would be more helpful than the random thoughts thread for a random question. In the spring/fall I switch out certain clothes from a trunk in my room. Sweaters go in in the summer and shorts/bathing suits go in in the winter. Last spring, while making the switch, I accidentally closed up an old masterlock over the closure and locked up all my sweaters in a trunk and cannot find the combination anywhere. What's the best course of action to get them out? Can I rent bolt cutters from somewhere? Seems sketchy. I've watched a few youtube videos on how to pick the lock but none of them work or I'm not skilled enough. Should I just call a locksmith? Inb4 you're an idiot.
Rent them, or buy and return. You're not going to need anything heavy duty for a masterlock. Please post a pic in your favorite turtle neck when you get that puppy open.
Pool contractor, know just enough about house stuff to save myself a little money while making my life absolutely unbearable for 3 months while working basically 2 jobs.
This is my day currently, plumbers cancelled on Saturday and rescheduled for today. I got nothing done over the weekend as everything that needs done follows the plumbers. I told myself I would wait until noon to crack a beer so I have one more minute.
I would say I would ship some but everyone knows I am the absolute worst about sending boxes of beer. UncleJesse , tell the guy.
Someone you know must have bolt cutters. Never even heard of renting them. As stated above, angle grinder or a dremel would work too. Soda can trick to pick it usually works as well.
I’m a director of banking for a very large mortgage company. Use me as a resource if you have questions or need a loan.
I’ll probably be ridiculed for this, but how hard is it to reconnect the doorbell? Just realized it isn’t working. The previous owners had a security system with doorbell camera, and I assume they just left the old doorbell disconnected when they moved?
Got bored waiting for paint to dry (literally) when I was younger and googled different methods out of curiosity
negative. Just realized tonight. I’m really bad at handyman stuff (trying to get better now that we bought a house) and didn’t even know if I should bother trying myself.
Could be disconnected at the actual bell chime. YouTube how to reconnect it. Wiring a doorbell is also very simple. Check YouTube for that, too. Folks that I bought from had it disconnected from the chime. I assume it’s because they had dogs that would go ape shit.
It is not as bad as I thought it was going to be but still would love nothing more than to fast forward to being broke and remodel complete.
The house we just moved into has 3 a/c units with 3 thermostats and none are programmable. Our old house had 1 basic programmable thermostat and it worked well for what we wanted, which is running just running a weekday/weekend schedule. Anyone have a good smart thermostat recommendation? Would i need to buy 3 nests?
Everyone go pour a cup of bleach down the drain where your air conditioner water drips into. Mine backed up last week because "bacteria builds up and can clog it"
I keep a bottle of 50/50 bleach and water and a funnel next to my units in the attic and pour a cup or so down each one every time I change the filter
Having my unit in the attic would ensure I never change the filter. Glad I do not have to deal with that.
Just realized I’ve been in my house a year and haven’t changed the filter. Probably something I should do.
Shit is getting real, I have a framed house, roof, island is framed. It's amazing how bigger the house looks from slab to completely framed.
I removed the popcorn ceiling in the master bedroom. Will be doing the 2 upstairs bedrooms and den. Paying someone to do entryway, staircase, dining, and living room because a. tall ceilings b. want it to look best in those common areas c. fuck all that.
Plumbing issues are a bitch. I had to take off work today. I have water pooling up in my laundry room in a spot. They’re coming out tomorrow again with some tiny camera. They think it might be an issue with the washing machine. I hope it’s not some issue with an underground line. Plus the guest bedroom is adjacent to this room and the toilet won’t stop leaking even though I shut the water off. So I have to buy a new toilet, which I already ordered. The whole ordeal is probably gonna cost me at least a grand.
Just got off the phone with a realtor who I reached out to for help leasing a single family home in a city I will be moving to in a few months. He said for the amount I was considering paying in rent, I should seriously consider 100% financing. I didn't know that was a thing anymore. When did 100% financing make a comeback?
Where are you moving to? If it's rural, then USDA loans never stopped offering 100% financing but you have to be in zip codes considered "rural".
Moving to Birmingham, AL, which I doubt would qualify as rural. In any event, the realtor said a bank was offering the 100% financing. Waiting for him to email me the terms.
If it's the suburbs it's surprising how close you can get to a city and it still be considered rural. Yeah I had forgotten about that. Wife and I bought our first place right after college using that program so our income was still low at the time.
Need to mount a tv and mantle above my fireplace soon Any advice and insight would be much appreciated

Have a tv above a fireplace. Disagree. It's awesome. Big fan. Get a mount that doesn't telescope. Find the studs. Profit.
