The rule you are thinking of applies to players acquired via trade. I think they just have to be on the 40 man.
I actually bet the Brewers to win the WS in April , so if we don't get it done (we won't) I hope the Brewers get it
I picked a horrible weekend to go to the Packer game. We'll probably lose to Buffalo while the Brewers are fighting for the division.
Also, from reddit Brewers Vets I don't know if anyone else noticed but over the course of the season by coincidence or potentially on purpose, Brewers staff has acquired a lot of players with postseason experience who haven't made it / won the big gig. Maybe it is just me being naive but I think that breathes new life into some of these vet's career. They might have been on a team that eliminated and now they are on a team in the NLCS. Examples & when they were eliminated: Gio Gonzalez - DS in '12, '14, '16, '17 Curtis Granderson - WS in '06, '15, CS in '10, '12, '17, DS in '11, '15 Joakim Soria - DS in '14 and WC in '15 Jonathan Schoop - CS in '14, WC in '16 Obviously there is something to be said about leadership from guys that have been there already. Not only from guys who have won it all like Moose and LoCain, but from guys who have gotten so close and missed like the Grandy Man. I love the makeup of this team. Hopefully that's what is driving Chacin and Miley. Also, it's kind of crazy how much better Gio has been with the Brewers vs the Nats earlier this year. Almost a full FIP point better, and his ERA is 2 points better.
Guessing Chacin gets in game 1 at some point. Will be interesting to see how the Dodgers stack their bats. Last year lefties were their kryptonite but they are more balanced this year.
If we want to look for silver linings Burnes and Woodruff looked really good in big situations and Arcia hit the crap out of the ball over a long stretch against top level pitching. The only letdown this series was Jeffress. Some of the bats went cold but they have some good pitching. If we can add an elite bat in Huira that would go a long way into boosting this roster.
I would like to see the team give a longer leash to the starters this year. No reason why guys like Burnes and Woodruff shouldn't be counted on to give us 7 innings when they are on. The bullpen was used so much last year that it is a concern that it could bite us this year.
What are your thoughts on the rest of the off-season? It's clear that Stearns puts a huge value on players with options. So many of the moves were toward playing with a 30 man big league roster like last year. I think I would have preferred signing one of the veteran middle infielders to Moustakas but part of that may be the lack of buy in by free agents and the rest could be Huira ready to take over every day. Will be interesting to see how the pitching staff shakes out. I wouldn't hate the idea of Kuechel for three years. I think Peralta spends time in AAA until he's needed. He doesn't work out of the pen the way his games played out last year. (Wild early and would settle in).
I am fine with pretty much every move that Stearns made this offseason but I wouldn't have brought back Moustakas. I especially like that we don't have many long term commitments which leaves us a lot of flexibility. I see no need whatsoever for Kuechel and really like our pitching staff (remember I was and still am very high on both Burnes and Woodruff and they really pitched great in the playoffs).
Have to be honest that I am not a fan of Grandal whatsoever but since its only a one year deal I have no issue with it. His playoff yips are very real and the team better be prepared to play Pina in big games. I think he was really foolish to turn down the 4 or 5 year deal that the Mets offered.
I'm going to miss Keon, and I fear that Moustakas might mean Thames has no spot on the roster. Shaw could get time at first when Aguilar needs a day off.
I just think they couldn't risk two dead spots in the lineup again. I at least trust that over 162 he is a massive upgrade. If he hits like he's supposed to and gets us to the post season that will be worth it. Maybe Kratz can help him with receiving.
He's back, folks! I'm shocked you would disapprove of a Milwaukee move that brings in a player from outside the organization that cost more than $500k. No one could have seen that coming.
I don't like Grandal but I said I have no issue with the signing since its a one year deal. If it was something like 4/60 like the Mets offered I would hate it but one year deals don't bother me.
