UW AU is a better game but give me the college campus 100/100 times. Comin’ to your city makes me mess my drawers every Saturday morning. I won’t stand for hostile words towards it or Corso.
It’s a lot more fun to have big games on campus than at neutral NFL stadiums. That’s the tiebreaker here. I wish more of the openers weren’t played at neutral sites.
For those watching a morning show at home, campus or NFL stadium doesnt really matter. It's a set with people behind it in both situations.
Disagree. I find the watching experience to be more enjoyable with a better backdrop. I believe you are in the minority on this.
Campus >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> neutral site But I mean Gameday has sucked for quite a while anyway so not like it really matters
You're wrong here, man. Put that shit in South Bend over a parking lot in Atlanta 100 times out of 100.
It kind of does though. It is far better watching a campus ignite than it is some parking lot outside of a building. I truly don't care, I'll be there so Gameday is useless to me unless I run up to the north end. I just think it is clear that this is a pretty obvious choice and ESPN thinks the same if they are jumping on a non Disney Broadcast. Also ND will wreck Bama in the playoff. Spoiler I do not believe the last part
I think it has more to do with two massive fanbase and names in cfb, not bc it's the best game. I get it from that standpoint, just wish they'd go to the better game. I couldn't care less about the fans around the set. I'd prefer the features during the broadcast be about a team/player we might run into in the playoffs.
You responded to a post where he never said it was the best game. It’s your opinion to want them at the best game, it would seem that most disagree and would prefer them at the expected better atmosphere of a college campus Back when it was good, it seemed that was a large part of what the show was about. There have been plenty of times they passed up a perceived better game for a better atmosphere or some place they hadn’t been to in a while (or at all).
Do you honestly think of the four teams that Auburn and UW are more likely to make the playoff? Both will be good but it seems like if you are picking from the 4 it’s a pretty hard push odds wise. All have the talent, and a ton to prove. Like I said. ESPN could have gone to one of their games. It’s a lot easier. So obviously this one won the battle and it wasn’t close, had it not been they’d not fly people around the country to do separate stops.
He stated ND/UM was the better game previously in the conversation. I just disagree with skipping best game for bigger names. The Coctail Party is arguably the nest atmosphere in cfb but if both teams are 4-4 when they play, they shouldn't go to that game. But this is a dumb argument. If you guys wants to see features on lesser teams bc of the names attached, have at it. I rarely even watch the show so not even sure why I got into this.
Same. I have no idea the last time I watched was but again you’re making this about the names when, sure, it helps but you’re ignoring my point. It isn’t new for them to pass up a “better”matchup for atmosphere. Just last year they went to Villanova at James Madison instead of #10 Auburn at #18 LSU.
It’s based on the decision to promote a game they can not carry. Any sane person can see that if this was “close” they would have gone with a game on the Disney family of networks.
2 years ago in November they passed up #14 UF at #13 LSU and #5 OU to #18 WV for Buffalo (2-8) at WMU
They like to do a novelty game every couple years. This isnt that. This is them pandering to 2 large fanbases.
So they are hunting ratings with the most intriguing game to most around the country all while promoting a game they do not carry. That has been my point the whole time.
Even if that was the case, should a television show, going for television ratings, not try to get the highest viewership possible?
And I’ve argued the entire time that the 4 are likely interchangeable and therefore they made a decision based on ratings even though they don’t get the revenue from the ND game. I’d be shocked if any of the 4 make the playoff. I do expect all 4 to be top 20 teams.
This is kind of my point. They see a ratings uptick because of a more intriguing game. I don’t care what the storyline is, they chase ratings. To do so while promoting a game on a rival network tells me the decision wasn’t really close.
I never said they shouldn't. Go read my first post. I just said they are getting 2 of the most overrated/overhyped teams out of the way in week 1. ND fans took offense to that. I figured after 30 years of them being overrated and overhyped that wouldn't be a hot take but here we are.
You also said that UW/AU were more likely to make the playoff which I don’t see how you could possibly say that when AU plays away to both teams from last years NC game. I would say they are the least likely of the 4 to get there based on schedule alone
They see a ratings uptick bc of if the two fanbases involved, not bc it's an intriguing game. Putting them on in week 1 is smart though. Do it then before each team has a chance to show they are overrated again.
AU also beat both of the teams from the NC last year. It would not be shocking to see them split those games and be in the SECCG this year with a chance to go to the playoffs.
I just don’t know how you look at their schedule, look at the schedules for ND and UM and say they have a better chance. They’ve got more room for error but they could also easily have 3 losses
Going to watch baseball. If yall want to buy into the ND/UM hyoe again, have at it. I'll continue to think both are overrated until proven otherwise. By week 12, we'll look back and laugh at them going to this game bc both teams will be irrelevant at the end of the season.
When is the last time ND and UM didnt have 3 losses? ND and UM have easier schedules but they are ass. This is the same rationalization FSU fans used for so long. "Our schedule sucks!" Yea well so did FSU so they lost to Wake. Now I'm really going to watch the Yankees lose again.
they went to ND Miami last year. IIRC that game ended up 120-3 with like 12 turnovers and the Miami starting D all actually wearing the turnover chain on the field
This is rich coming from a fan of the only school in the SEC to have a loss this weekend. Embarrassing.
Good on ESPN for deciding enough time has passed that Gameday can feature the child rape school versus the cover up domestic abuse school.
They're in the crowd every week now it seems. At least when I've watched Gameday. Need some people to start bringing "God is dead" signs.
