Tera Melos releasing a 3-song EP on November 2nd first song from it features a guy from Pinback and is called Lemon Grove
new All Them Witches album is basically just decent background music, guess things had been trending that way though ahh well
Julia Holter playing around the corner from me in late February just bought a ticket online and my hands were shaking throughout that whole process because I was terrified it would sell out before I got mine. I cannot freaking wait for her new album #blessed
I would check out: In the Same Room Feel You Horns Surrounding Me but I can't recommend enough just listening to her albums all the way through. They are perfect for lying around and staring at the ceiling or reading or sitting at your desk. Or taking long walks. She is ridiculously talented. If you like Grouper or Julianna Barwick you'll be a fan
had their new album pop up on my youtube feed today, really good stuff, bit more energetic on the whole than House In the Tall Grass
Ron Gallo has a new album out tomorrow. I didn't realize that you can stream it at the link below https://www.pastemagazine.com/artic...stream-ron-gallos-philosophical-post-pun.html
Thankx. I like Do You Love Your Company?, “You” Are The Problem, It’s All Gonna Be OK, Bridge Crossers and Happy Deathday.
about to walk down to see Sheer Mag and mosh with some punks who are much younger than me I have 8 joints rolled for the night #blessed
some of the folks who go to Sheer Mag shows are so ridiculously aggro. Like they represent the very type of people bands should hope do not show up to their shows if they are truly trying to foster inclusive and welcoming environments no one made me feel uncomfortable or out of place or anything last night, but I can certainly see how someone who just wants to go to a show and listen to music would feel intimidated in the kind of crowd that seems to be common at their gigs spent some time listening to the new Wild Nothing again today and I am not sure if there is a close second when it comes to most disappointing album of the year
Agreed, even on their earlier stuff I was never a fan of their entire catalog, but they do have some great fucking songs.
in 2016 Colleen Green released a cassette via Infinity Cat a few weeks back she released a new vinyl featuring newly recorded versions of the cassette on side A (Casey's Tape) and never-before-released tracks on side B (“Harmontown”) I have been listening to this Casey's Tape/Harmontown a tonnn the past few days. I adore her
Are there more good female artists these days, or am I more "woke", or what? Seems like everything good I discover this year is female-fronted where back in the 90s/00s I rarely listened to female artists
I'd imagine there are fewer barriers (though I am sure they still exist) for women to get their own music recorded and released these days. Probably helps that the indie music scene is so strong and there are an endless array of awesome labels out there I used to associate women primarily with acoustic and piano heavy folkish type music and growing up used to almost exclusively listen to bands like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Zeppelin, RHCP, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, RATM, Dr Dre, Tupac, The Mars Volta, etc. But I have grown up a whole lot in the past few years and as I have matured in other areas of life, so too has my taste in music. I have made a greater effort to find new indie artists and I imagine if I had been so determined in the past, I probably would have listened to more women back in the 90s/early 00s
There's just more of literally everything in music nowadays with how easy it is to get an album to the masses, golden age we're living in
I've got a rough working list of my top 10-15 albums of the year going, and almost all of them are from female artists or female-fronted bands.
it’s the trend. A few years ago everyone released a lo-fi surf rock album. Emergence of artists like big thief (I got them their saddle creek record deal btw) have certainly helped
Oh, damn I never go to any of those because I feel afraid to go in an art gallery. What if it's pretentious or something. I don't have a beret
I'd say around 75% of the new stuff I enjoy is female led. I still think I prefer a great male voice, but the ladies are just doing it better right now.
Admittedly I’m slipping a little bit when it comes to new stuff, which is why I’ve been so absent from here. I need to sit in front of my computer so I can type out a comprehensive list
My girlfriend keeps calling me out that when I play any of the male led stuff, it's always some weird fucking voice. Ought, King Krule, Future Islands, etc. If the guy singer isn't bringing something new to the table, I feel like I've heard it before?
