Also whitewashed from history is after the US colonies won independence from Great Britain, there was a 5 year period before George Washington became our first president, and the Articles of Confederation were tried out. During that period, state border militias formed and fought each other killing hundreds in the hinterlands for right to the territory. The same as in Bleeding Kansas. The difference is only that they were the established immigrants from southern England and those newly arrived from Scotland, the English borderlands and Ireland.

You definitely need at least general knowledge of chess theory to follow along (they’re all 20 around 20 minutes long, and provide analysis of all of the moves). But yeah, what Fischer accomplished is truly unprecedented. He came in and absolutely throttled people from 70-72, despite Soviets paying chess players to do only that and America giving zero fucks ever about chess. Journalists are a weird, hopeless naive sort. Completely conditioned to the idea that showing bias means they aren't credible. But bias is unavoidable and good. Up front bias allows you to write and say things from your perspective. The solution to journalistic bias is diversity (Not in opinions at odds with each other ) but in perspective of life. The NYT has some 6 white journalists on the Trump beat. So everything Trump says is "racially charged." .
