I have several copies of that razor because it used to be my favorite. My Paradigm 17-4 is hands down, no questions asked, favorite. Too bad they’re impossible to find.

Anyone ever made it through the waitlist for a charcoal goods razor? Been sitting on it for almost six months now

Im making the jump. Ive read through the thread, Im most concerned w the blades. Ive heard just try a bunch and see what you like, but was hoping for a bit more direction.

My beard is thick AF and get stubble fast if that matters.

I have bought a small pack and had it shipped to my destination via Amazon. Not the best solution but it works. Otherwise, I would just USPS it to my destination ahead of time or just check a bag.

You could always try to hide them in an apple. That usually works for me when I give out apples for trick or treat.

I've got a thick beard and the only blades that work for me are Feather and Astra. I've tried Iridiums and Gillettes among others and they feel like they're plucking the hairs instead of shaving. Best advice is to try a sample pack and see what works best because there's tons of differences.

As for travel, I still keep a cartridge Gillette in the shave kit for when I don't check a bag. It's stupid but that's the world we live in.

Any recs for an aftershave balm? Maybe it's just coinciding with the turn in the weather, but I feel like my skin is drying out more than with a cartridge shave.

Been using my GF's coconut oil, but im not loving smelling like a pina colada

I use Truefitt and Hill aftershave balm in the winter. I really like the West Indian Limes fragrance, but it makes my skin break out so I use the Trafalgar. You can get a sample pack of their creams and balms in order to figure out which fragrance you like best

Been wet shaving for years now. Thank you thread. I use Feathers and love them. I don’t use after shave, balm, lotion or anything of the like. I didn’t use them when I was a cartridge guy either. My skin responds well to a shave. Am I missing out?

Feather fan here too. After shaves aren't necessary, but they make things better. Smooth/cool the skin and depending on the product, smell good too. They're cheap so I'd recommend trying a bunch and finding what you like.

Been doing it for a few weeks now 3-4 times a week. So far Ive used Astra, Wilkinson Sword and Shark blades. I was about to ask if possibly I was doing something wrong. I never seem to get as close a shave as I did w cartridges.

Today I used a Derby Premium and it made all the world of difference. Feel like a baby's butt. These are my fave so far. My sample pack doesnt have any feathers, but those sound like the blade of choice itt.

Feathers are by far the sharpest for me. They give me the best shave but also cut me more than any other blade. Worth it.

I cut the shit out of myself. Didn’t feel it though. All the sudden, I’m leakin’ like a mofo

I also got an Adjustable razor and had the setting too open. The blade obviously was much sharper. Needed less of an opening.

Everybody’s face, razor, blade, pressure, angle combo is different. That’s a huge reason why this can become expensive. You go from good to great changing one element, then you start chasing the perfect combination ($$$) and feeling like and idiot at all the money you’ve spent. I’ve found a setup so perfect for me I’ve been thinking of selling a lot of my stuff.

Each batch is different as is each knot but I really enjoy my Paladin brush. There are so many quality makers out there now using fantastic knots. For the other end of the price spectrum I have a RazoRock Plissoft Bruce that I got from amazon. It’s doesn't hold heat like badger but it lathers great and is soft but still has a little backbone. I’ve given several as gifts to beginners.

I think I read something the other day about either Chinese tariffs on badger hair or shutting down badger hair production in China due to inhumane practices. Should we be rushing to buy a new brush now?

I had not heard that but I’m staying off the forums so I don’t buy more shit i don’t need. I don’t know about rushing, but if I was on the fence I might leap now. I have enough for an entire football team so maybe I can turn that into a retirement fund.

It looks like it is just a P&G thing right now and badger hair was excluded from the tariffs list despite initially being on the list.

I was also thinking, the big brush makers in the UK wouldn’t be impacted by that list. I don’t know if the resale price after gluing the knot in the handle and shipping it to the USA would impact price. The small brush makers domestically would have been ruined I’m sure. BRB going to go vote.

I’m so far out of “the know” for brushes I’m not sure what the best direction is for brushes. A good recommendation above you. The shave forums are a good source for who’s making good brushes at the moment. Those guys are happy to spend thousands just to find the perfect brush, and they write essays about each one. As I mentioned earlier, my Paladin caused me to shelve most of my other brushes. The razorock Bruce was an experiment that ended up last over a month because it was a good brush. I still use my Simpsons Berkeley as a travel brush, because it fits perfectly in a prescription pill bottle I drilled vent holes in.
