The apartment building was under construction and another building was an office building. One fire fighter injured. Hopefully that’s it
That's right across the street from Sidebar, right? I bet that was wild for the people out in lakeview.
Yeah, check out Sidebar's instagram feed. They "went live" last night and broadcast it. You can still watch it burn, as I watched it this morning. Pretty crazy.
IIRC they had to stop construction on that apartment complex due to funding issues at one point. Sketchy
Plenty of cash on the job, delays weren't related to financing. Was supposed to be completed by next March too. If it was arson it wasn't bc the project was dead
Anybody know of any extra David Byrne tickets? Trying to help anyone out that cant get rid of them and avoid ticketmaster fees myself.
Officials with Birmingham Fire and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say the fire that destroyed an unfinished apartment complex in the Lakeview District last week was intentionally set. The Birmingham Fire Department, ATF National Response Team and Birmingham police are working together in the investigation. "After our on-scene investigation over the last seven days, the National Response Team along with the Birmingham Fire and Rescue, the Birmingham Police Department and the ATF Nashville Field Division have determined this was fire intentionally set and we are classifying this fire as incendiary," Paul Claflin, Team leader of the ATF National Response Team said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon. https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2018/10/fire_at_lakeview_apartments_in.html
that was incredible. one of the best shows i've ever seen. idk why it didn't occur to me beforehand, but i really didn't come in expecting such a production and stop making sense-style theatrics.
Idk... I saw Byrne in may and it sucked ass. Lots of new songs that were so bad that when they finally played the good songs it was too late.
Seeing FJM and KT in NOLA Saturday. Had debated seeing just KT tomorrow night but saving it all for Saturday.
Oranjello if you're still looking for a rental now is the time to cruise around Crestline Park. Lots of rental signs popping up lately.
Currently talking to a realtor about renting for 6 or so months and then buying. Might ask some friends to go check out Crestline because things with the realtor are moving super slow, and I’ll be in the Ham in ~5 weeks. Thank you for letting me know.
Iron Horse is playing Vulcan after tunes tomorrow if you’re into epic bluegrass covers and nice outdoor weather on a Sunday afternoon.
Went to the Pig, but they didn't have a good selection today. Found what I was looking for at NY Butcher. Thanks for the recs.
Staying downtown tomorrow. Think I’m going to hit John’s City Diner and then Carrigan’s. Thanks for the list in the OP.
The OP list is pretty dated, but those are still good spots. You can get plenty of recs in here if you want more specifics.
mondays are kind of service-industry sabbath in bham so some of the best places aren't an option unfortunately. collins is open, though, so i'd recommend checking that out for a drink. bamboo is also a better choice for dinner imo than john's. but john's is certainly solid.
Collins is closer than Carrigan's (walk by St. Paul's and it's the next block up) and is a little more interesting, although the weather should be nice, so the rooftop at Carrigan's is kinda fun. I believe Redmont has some sort of rooftop thing, though, too, and it should have fairly unobstructed views of downtown. If you like Asian, Bamboo is great. I am a big Rogue Tavern fan for lunch, and Trattoria Centrale is great, too.
This is Birmingham so basically everything is near by. You could cross the entire county in 25 minutes. That said, there's no need to as you're staying in a great spot with some of the best the city has to offer in walking distance. Personally, I'm a big fan of Paramount. It's a bar nearby with an arcade in the back. The food is solid as well.
