I just called Directv and got my internet and cable lowered to $115 total with HBO and 2 HD DVRs. I'm not sure cutting cable is worth it for me.

This is the only thing keeping me with Sling. I'll probably give YTTV a try after football season.

Probably not at the moment. One of my biggest things switching to yttv was no contracts, no bull shit fucking fees, etc. Sound like a commercial but I truly was so tired of providers INTERNET AND TV FOR $90! Oh wait there's a fee for every box, and a fee for dvr, other random local taxes and fees, and you have to call us every year and complain/threaten to leave to maintain decent pricing which isn't the $90 you thought it was it's actually more like $130.

I also split YTTV with a friend so we pay $20 each.

I have a student email still, so I picked up the online/app version of the Sunday Ticket package for cheap. I prefer the Dtv Red Zone channel anyways, so that worked out well.

You can have 6 people total on your membership I believe. Get it down to under $7 a person. Unfortunately all other family/friends are unwilling/scared to join me but I'm not complaining about $20.

The way they are going with adding all the packages, your "local" cable providers are now going to be competing against these large national TVIP providers which is only good for the consumers. It is like when satelite providers dish and direct tv entered the game and started competing.

I have been a long term user of Youtube TV and I love it. Its really great bc my gf doesn't have cable. I went to her house after dinner and simply signed into my account and watched the end of a football game last week.

Depends, I get YTTV for $40, and can get HBONow for like $15 if I want it. I have unlimited DVR so I can watch DVR'ed programs anywhere I can watch my YTTV.

Smartvs with apps cant be underappreciated. I have no idea how many I've signed in with my directv to use the ESPN and FS1 app. Just disappointed that the ESPN app was taken off the xbox360.

Technically I have both currently. I figured out my solution for RedZone this season and that was to just get my sisters Sling login/password. She lives in a market that doesn't have YTTV yet so she's forced to use Sling which is fine with her. Therefore for RedZone only, I have Sling...although I have access to everything else they offer as well now. In a side-by-side comparison, it's blatantly obvious that the picture quality of the channels from YTTV are far superior to Sling. Just wish YTTV would offer RedZone....maybe next year.

Anyway, I'm assuming this is why YTTV looks better/crisper: https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/youtube-tv-now-offers-60-fps-on-all-channels/

I use it every day. Its better than the naitive app on my Sony TV (Android OS) bc the Sony processor sucks dick and is slow af.

I hear the Shield is the best platform but using Chromecast or Xbox works fantastic for me. I have not had any crashes or problems that I can remember.

Roku is the best platform in general unless you want stuff like Kodi or access to Apple's stuff. Pretty much any major app is going to be on Roku these days since its the market leader at 37% market share. Fire TV came in second at 28% and Apple TV was just 15%.

I wouldn't even own a Fire TV anymore if not for Kodi/Terrarium TV/etc. The FireOS UI is just go awful.

Agree with this. I have a 2 TV setup in my living room. One is not a SmartTV so I have a Roku Ultra hooked up to that and YTTV works flawlessly and everything is super quick with it. The other is a new TCL which has the Roku operating system built in. I still have no problems with that at all, things like changing the channel or loading menu's for example just take a brief bit longer.

FYI, AT&T doesn't really advertise this, but if you have a wireless contract with them, you might get HBO for free. I do.

You get access to HBO Go and the live stream through Direct TV Now.

Just getting this thread, I've been completely satisfied with psvue as YouTube tv wasn't available in my area when I looked several months ago. So I checked and it's now available. I think I'll give it a try soon and maybe switch over

The interface for Vue on the Roku is ass. It's in my office at home so no big deal, get's the job done but it's ugly as shit and horrible to use. Interface on the PS4 is great and surprisingly on Fire it's now really good as well.

Don't really have an issue with the picture on Sling, perhaps because I haven't seen the clarity on YTTV. But I don't have access to a Sling password aside from my own so I'm sticking with it for the time being.

Roku is probably your safest bet because it's agnostic in terms of what they want you to carry. Best example, there is not native app for YT TV on Fire TV/Stick. Doesn't mean you can't make it work, just probably not something you will want to rig every time someone wants to watch TV.

OK I have resisted cutting for years but with the latest jump in cable I think I am ready,.

Took a look at a few online recent comparisons and holy shit there is a lot out there.

Was thinking of keeping just internet 100mbps via spectrum and PlayStation vue since we have a Ps4 (which we use for movies, games, Netflix and Amazon prime) another room with a PS4 (but it is low as shit and sometimes wont even start Netflix) and 2 other fir sticks and a smart Samsung TV.

Low and behold I realized yesterday that the Samsung will not support Playstaion Vue (?)

So now I'm back to the drawing board and I guess leaning to Hulu since it is supported on the PS$, Samsung and fire sticks.

Any advice would be welcome. FWIW we have 2 main tv's where we even watch regular tv/cable (Samsung smart and the one with the PS4) all the others are on firesticks and used by the kids who watch only prime and Netflix.

I would say to just get another fire stick or roku. It'll pay for itself if you are getting rid of cable. Not sure if you saw this but here is the best site I have seen to navigate the packages.

The Dish Anywhere app sucks balls on Fire TV because it's slow as shit. I can watch stuff on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon in HD perfectly fine in glorious HD but the Dish Anywhere app buffers for days even when the stream gets downgraded to SD.

My dad has the shield and it's pretty great as far as speed and access goes. I have a newish Sony TV and holy shit are you right about the processor. Android is insanely slow and jumpy at times.
I have a Roku Ultra and an Apple TV 4k. I definitely like some things about Roku and would probably still recommend it to anyone looking for the best system under $80, but ATV 4K is simply better. It's so much faster and intuitive. I imagine if you're an Apple fan boy, it's just that much better too. The difference in the direct TV now app on the two is night and day. I do hate the way they refuse to allow YouTube to be awesome on it but nevertheless, I think it's top notch otherwise.

I have a Roku Express and used to have an Apple TV, the first generation of the models once they switched to tvOS. It was nice, but if all you use it for is streaming stuff and nothing else then there really is no sense in paying all the extra money it takes to get an Apple TV unless you are invested in TV Shows and Movies from the iTunes store. It's a tad bit slower loading apps, but it cost $35 so of course that will be the case, but I am more than happy to wait a few more seconds to open an app if it means I just saved $144.

Any Android device as long as you can sideload apps on it (which means install it from outside the installed app store). But the app being slow to stream stuff and buffering like crazy likely isn't going to be any better no matter what device you put it on.
