Feel like Bowman generally has a good idea of what's going on. Thought throwing out McDowell was super weird though.
Wow getting guys like Jim Johnson to sign extensions because of his comfort with McDowell That really makes me want to bring Roger back *cringes*
Would you give up Cristian Pache as a headliner for for Realmuto? What type of package from ATL would it take? Kiley McDaniel I would not, you could put a pretty solid three prospect group together without having to include him
It’s my understanding that Pache would be a GG centerfielder today so I think they’d probably prefer Ender’s glove and bat
Read that Shelby Miller will probably get released. Let's bring him in, see if he can figure anything out.
- I know you’re not a fantasy writer, but what do you see as likely offensive upside for Christian Pache? .280 with 18 HR and 25 steals too much to ask? Eric A Longenhagen: Don’t think there’s going to be that kind of pop - Any reports on Pache so far in the AFL, especially about his swing? Eric A Longenhagen: It’s sweepy but workable. - Can you elaborate just slightly on a “sweepy” swing? Eric A Longenhagen: Kinda long, with a gentle downward angle for much of its distance in the hitting zone - If the Diamondbacks decide to rebuild, is David Peralta a good fit for Atlanta? He seems to be a solid choice to fill-in for Markakis, and with two years of control, he could likely do so until Pache is MLB-ready. Eric A Longenhagen: Yeah, that makes some sense. - What kind of package would SD look for in dealing Wil Myers? Could be another fit to replace Markakis in ATL… Eric A Longenhagen: Yup, that’s another good target for ATL and a good fit for SD to trade for a prospect more in line with their competitive timeline - Would an offer of Gohara, Allard, Wilson, and Waters be enough for Realmuto? Eric A Longenhagen: I’d do that if I were MIA - Do you think Pache is too aggressively ranked on the board? As a Braves fan, I think 18 is crazy. Eric A Longenhagen: If you buy that he’s going to play elite CF defense (we do) then he doesn’t have to do much with the bat to be a 60. just peep Inciarte’s #’s this year - How has Muller’s velocity looked so far in his AFL appearances? Eric A Longenhagen: t94, mostly 91-93 - Have you heard any update on the Carter Stewart grievance against the Braves? Eric A Longenhagen: Nope
Realmuto package seems light considering they wouldn't even have a Yelich conversation without Acuña being involved.
I'd have to look.. But I'd think Realmuto was more valuable last season than Yelich in his final year with the fish. There's some position scarcity involved here as well.
Points taken. My viewpoint is probably skewed from this season. I think I’ve just always thought he was gonna explode onto the scene because he seemed to rake against us in Miami. Hard to believe they had Yelich, Ozuna, and Stanton in the OF and JT, Dee, and Prado and didn’t even go .500.
1. Patrick Corbin, LHP, Diamondbacks — Considered the most sought-after pitcher on the market this winter. Corbin will have his pick, but it likely won’t be in Arizona, which is looking to strip payroll and start rebuilding. Corbin is expected to draw a lot of interest from the Yankees, Dodgers, Giants, and Braves. The deal likely could be at least five years in the $20 million-$25 million range. https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/...free-agency/mb4cg5mlbLt70zvUjnA2MP/story.html
I mean, not any Ace level pitchers with long term success are gonna sniff 20-25mm a year. You're a solid 10mm too low
I realize that, but if I'm giving away 20-25 on a solid #2....I'd rather shoot for a proven ace for the extra. Or do like we did at the deadline and find us a deal via trade.
Honestly, it works out pretty well for us. We have so many arms and ready players now. Spacing them out a year is pretty nice.
Who's the proven ace that's available, either via FA or trade? There aren't that many proven aces as it is. I've seen a lot of sentiment for Mad Bum, but he's had two straight years of injuries and non-ace production.
That's for AA to figure out. But throwing money at Corbin is not where I want to be. I'd much rather allocate that on the bats or pen. How many games did we piss away this year because of Moylan and co? And at no point are we ready to matchup to the Dodgers, Astros, or Sox next year, even with signing Corbin. Save the $100 mil
I mean, we have like 60mm to spend. We can probably sign a pitcher, bat and a lot of pen arms. Plus Peter wasn't on the team to end the year and the rookies that burnt our will last the year. Also have O'Day in the pen next year who is older but a solid arm
Spending just to be spending though is what concerns me. Is Corbin going to be a difference maker over Newk, Gaus, any of the newbies? And that isn't just for 19 but also for the 4 or 5 years we pay him, when we may need payroll to extend Oz, Acuna, Folty etc
I think we trade O'Day cause he costs 9 million next year for a cheaper reliever but in reality we probably only have about 50 million to spend, AA has strongly hinted he will keep millions back to spend at the trade deadline and other transactions during the season. First off is to trade Teherans 11 million though
All things I’ve read on O’Day is that he’s awesome in the clubhouse and a great mentor. If we need that anywhere, it’s the bullpen.
