in real life? Nothing. On TMB? I wouldn’t dare be seen there. but no, it’s just average. I’ll eat it. I do love their queso and guacamole. I was hoping for more when I went to Capital.
So you’re saying you won’t visit? Ha. My territory is going to be Tampa, Ocala, Gainesville, Jacksonville so further north is better for me.
After dinner the other night, I went outside with Mini Boom to throw the football. It was about 6:30pm, and we were out there about 20 minutes. I had to take a shower afterward because I was drenched in sweat...from standing still and throwing a football.
My office is 2 blocks away from a Wawa walked there and back at lunch. Had to change shirts when I got back.
There isn’t a day that goes by from May to whenever this misery ends that I don’t ask myself why I was dumb enough to marry someone who’s from Tampa and wants to live here the rest of her life.
I recently was offered a Job in Lakeland. Please inform me about the area, places to live, stuff to do etc. I will be moving in 2 weeks. Not sure if I should move in Lakeland or live toward the Brandon/Plant City area. I'm single making decent money and have no kids. TIA.
Probably want to get as close to Tampa as you can. You can find reasonable cost of living in Brandon but it’s one of the busiest suburbs you will ever see Pretty much family living in all of those places tbh
Downtown Lakeland doesn't have much to offer? There are like 3 colleges there right? I am not looking forward to a 45min-1 hour commute home every day to be in Brandon.
Jobs already been accepted and its on literally on the west side county line. and its a big pay increase with a really good company.
There’s a couple small colleges there but I believe they are primarily commuter schools. I’ve worked in Lakeland some and it has a decent but small downtown, but never seen it as a really bumping college town
No problem....hopefully there’s somebody on here that’s lived there to help out If you’re willing to make a 45 or so minute commute....downtown Tampa isn’t a bad spot for young single types and you’ll be going against traffic in the morning out to Lakeland Regardless of where you stay...you’ll be an easy drive from all the good stuff Tampa has to offer on the weekends Edit: just saw you said West Side, so more like 30 min each way
Under no circumstances should you live anywhere in Lakeland or Brandon. You working at Geico or Publix, bturns?
I had to google Lakeland colleges to come up with all 3. It's Florida Southern, Southeastern, and Polk St. Referring to them as actual colleges is being generous.
Don’t live Lakeland. There is nothing to do. I have had several friends move there to be closer to work. They all ended up moving back to Tampa.
This thread is criminally underused, but nothing brings us all out from under a rock like shitting on Polk County.
Tampa summers (and most of fall) are miserable. I’m not sure what word is use to describe Polk county summers.
danny2430 had a pretty good idea with downtown. Your commute won’t be great, but downtown is really starting to come alive.
Courtesy of Wiki on East Tampa: The per capita income for the neighborhood was $11,133. About 33% of the population were below the poverty line, including 47.0% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.
Seminole Heights could also be an option. Funky little part of town that’s undergone some gentrification. Couple REALLY good restaurants, few fun bars, younger crowd.
This....it’s not the best prices by any means but it’s actually still a really solid investment at this point with how much big money is being put into it
i can afford more but i would rather save for a year then look at buying and have a nice fat down payment.
Makes sense, but you may have to expand a bit more. If that’s really your plan, you might as well get something cheap closer to work and save money. There’s no point in spending a little bit more and still being in a shitty part of town.
was looking at these in Lakeland. Right in the heart of the Downtown area in Lakeland. https://www.nobayapts.com/
To live anywhere you won’t hate your life you’re gonna need to commute 30-45 mins. Learn to love the drive or learn to be bored as hell daily and just drive/pay more for Uber to the fun stuff when you want to go out. Really depends on your hobbies/lifestyle
Yeah with this strategy either try Lakeland or Brandon right off the highway (and I mean RIGHT off of it, because the local traffic there is horrendous) Your night life will be tough to manage but you can save that way
I've met a lot of good people from Lakeland. A lot of original Florida people (Badcock family comes to mind) derive from Polk. You can set up a decent life, especially if you plan to be gone every weekend. Which obviously isn't ideal lol, but I know ppl that leave Lakeland every Friday for the coast.
I agree on the downtown aspect especially if you are single with no kids. You’d be bored in Lakeland and Brandon. Downtown is leaps and bounds better than it was when I was in HS/College when it was s ghost town at night and on the weekends.
