I think I'm not buying a TV from anybody but amazon, best buy or Sam's

I'd recommend the Sony just because they use a pic of Hallstatt on their screens. Scattered my mother's ashes in that lake twenty years ago.

FWIW, bought a Samsung 55" 4K last year, mu6300 model iirc. Input matters. Comcast doesn't look any better than on the 8-year-old Samsung that it replaced, but PrimeTV looks awesome, especially the UHD offerings. Just bought a Sony UHD blu-ray but haven't tried any UHD dvds through it yet.

Probably not. Amazon best seller for around $250. Old blu-ray had software problems with Wi-Fi network connectivity, and wife got pissed when she couldn't easily access and watch the new season of Man In The High Castle. Authorized an upgrade purchase, ASAP. Who was I to argue?

This is the TV I am buying in a few months when the sales really hit. If you can wait until after Xmas before super bowl is the best time to buy.

Not to push you higher on price, but honestly if you’re willing to spend this much, you should just increase a little more and get an LG OLED.

Or just get the 2017 model of Sony and save a couple hundred bucks

Have never even seen an OLED before. Maybe I'll check one out at the store just to see how big of a difference there is.

Well shit. I was going to go 65 inch for an LED but I wonder if I should do 55 and just go OLED. The 65 inch LG OLED looks to be like $2300 and that could be out of my price range. Yesterday when I first started looking around I told myself I was only going to spend like $700-900ish but that's definitely not gonna happen.

Then honestly go to Costco and buy best TV you can find at that price range. Once you get it home I doubt you worry about the difference.

Went back to the local dealer just to check out the OLEDs. They look amazing but this place only has Sony and the 65-inch they have available is almost $4,000. So yeah that’s out of my price range.

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-6...rt-4k-uhd-tv-with-hdr/6179705.p?skuId=6179705

Going to have to decide between the 65-inch Sony 850F and 900F. The 850 is the one I talked about ordering and it looked really nice in person. I’m a little confused though because while the reviews are unanimously better for the 900, the sales guy I talked to almost seemed to be pushing the 850 as the better option despite being a few hundred bucks cheaper.

    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x850f

    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x900f

Gonna buy from the local place because I know the family a little and the service is excellent. Forgot to ask if they have an older model OLED but I’ll do that tomorrow. I have until Friday to get this figured out so I’ll read some more reviews tonight.

spent quite a bit of time on rtings looking for a cheaper but still high scoring HDR Gaming TV. still thinking the 65 TCL 6 series, but maybe the Samsung 65NU8000 for a couple hundred more.

would love to get an OLED, but i dont think my gf wants to split a tv that expensive.

Is a 65 to 75 inch that much of a difference. O want a bigger TV but not sure I actually need one. I'm still ricking a 65 inch plasma right now , but new house means new TV. Would like to stay around 2 to 3k.

I'd be fine with 2017 model I think

Once you have them calibrated and in your home I doubt you think twice about having the cheaper model. Unless you are using the 4K a ton or a huge videophile I think the 850 will be a great set for you.

I know that feeling. I'm not even in the market yet, but I've stayed on top of reviews for 2017/2018 because I think Ill get a new TV in the coming year.

the 900/930 E + Fs are rated reaalllly well from a picture quality standpoint. If it were me, I'd hone in on the things you care about and then priotize those base on rtings reviews/scores.

It just threw me off that the sales guy was pitching the cheaper one (850F). Didn’t make much sense assuming they’re both the 2018/F models. He was even pointing out how that one had the better display when we were looking at them but I don’t recall that necessarily being the case.

Unless its a specialty TV/home theater store, i'm not likely to trust salesman at an electronics store.

Otoh, the chip in the 930E made its way to the 900F, which is a probably why its so well loved.

Yeah it actually is a speciality home theater store. Idk but I’ll just go back in Friday, take one final look at them, and then make a decision. Then I’ll wait for the price to be reduced by like $800 the day after I purchase one.

its a PITA getting video settings the way i want them to. using peoples recommendations from youtube was wielding results i didnt like. i guess i always have my tv a little darker than most people want.

and im used to seeing colors with my current tv setup, so maybe it just takes time to adjust.

Isn’t there some dvd (or maybe now a blueray or digital file) that you can play and use to adjust your tv settings?

Like you see an image on the screen and adjust brightness/color/contrast?

Bought the LG OLED65B7A last November and highly recommend it. Closest TV in quality to the Panasonic plasma that I had prior. If you are willing to drop 2k+ on a TV, OLED is the way to go.

Those OLEDs look insane and the only reasons I'm not getting one now are A) I'm not rich and B) Currently no basement and my living room has a lot of natural light. From what I've read the lighting thing may be the lone downside of an OLED.

I have mine in my living room which has a ton of natural light and it's not an issue. Can't help you with cost though although the B7A could probably be had for under 2k in a few weeks.

Finishing basement living room and deciding between a 65inch in the middle and two 40's on the side for football watching parties or a projector with an HDMI multi view switcher to watch multiple Directv boxes at once. Anyone have or seen a setup for the latter?

Mounted the tv today. Tv might be too big for the room, lol. Also, may be a tad high, but google tells me it should be 65inchrs from the ground to the center of the tv. It’s like 68.

Need to find a way to hide these wires, tho.

I'll be grabbing an LG C8 whenever I actually decide to make the move to 4k but am still on a Panasonic plasma at the moment for my main TV. It's definitely the best TV I've ever owned and it's held up just fine for 6-7 years now. I was getting a new TV like every year there for a bit in my early 20's but have stuck with this for quite a while now.

Curious about this too - have had a 65” set for the last 5-6 years, but since the wife & I are splitting up, I may be getting a new one but didn’t know if I should spring for a 75” or just stay with a 65” set

Can't really say from experience as I am going from a 60 inch to a 65, but when I was at the store the other day I could definitely notice a big different from the 65 to 75 and the 75 to 85.

my mount cost $250 for a full swivel one. also cost about $1000 in stress. i think i mounted it too high, and i still have this fear that it'll fall. think i would have preferred a professional.

also, its a big jump from 55-65, so i image the 75 would seem like a movie screen.
