For you stat guys Turnovers 2015 - 21 2016 - 28 2017 - 26 (13 games) 2018 - 14 (4 games) This is his problem plain and simple. Stop making the stupid fucking throws and trying to make plays that aren't there. Completion %, QBR, yards/attempt don't mean shit if he's turning the ball over. I'm an FSU fan in case anyone was wondering.
No one is saying that Fitz is good lol it's just that he's better than Jameis. Anyone who watches the games can see that their offense is significantly better when he plays. This is Jameis' 4th season -- he isn't prospect anymore. He makes the same horrible decisions (off-field, too) that he did when he was at FSU. You have to be incredibly naive to think he's going to wake up one morning and miraculously stop being a jackass.
"Now the popular consensus is — especially from the haters — that Jameis had an awful year last year. Aside from fumbles (no trivial matter), that simply wasn’t so. We all know Jameis has put up numbers in that his first three seasons that rank among — or are better than — some of the greatest quarterbacks to have ever taken a snap in the NFL. Chase Stuart of FootballPerspective.com documented that last year Jameis showed why he is so dangerous." http://www.footballperspective.com/jameis-winston-had-an-unusual-2017-season/ "Statistically, Jameis Winston had a strong 2017 season. Winston was above-average in completion percentage, yards per attempt, net yards per attempt, passer rating, and Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt. Overall, Winston ranked 11th in ANY/A and 14th in passer rating, but that might undersell him. That’s because Winston was also the game’s preeminent downfield thrower in 2017. His average pass traveled 10.62 yards in the air, by far the longest in the NFL (Carson Wentz was second at 9.91, followed by Russell Wilson at 9.75, Carson Palmer at 9.36, and Tom Brady at 9.09). Winston also led the NFL in average air yards on completions, at 7.97 (Wentz was seond at 7.79, followed by Palmer at 7.53.) Winston was throwing longer passes, which hurt his passer rating and completion percentage, but helped his team. Winston picked up a first down on over 40% of his pass attempts, the highest rate in the NFL last season: And Winston was excellent on third downs, which is a pretty key component of producing an efficient offense. In fact, he ranked 2nd among starting quarterbacks:" Spoiler So why were the Bucs so bad in 2017? Was it a case of Winston having very good stats but not playing well? I don’t think so. To start, Tampa Bay had the worst defense in the NFL according to DVOA. And the Bucs had very bad special teams, including a disastrous kicking game. Finally, while Tampa Bay ranked 9th in pass DVOA, the Bucs ranked 25th in rush DVOA. The Bucs ranked 30th in rushing yards by running backs (1168) and 29th in rushing yards per carry by running backs (3.53). So you have a very good passing game combined with the worst defense in the NFL, terrible special teams, and an ineffective running game. In that light, a 3-10 record for Winston makes a lot more sense. NFL teams went 28-5 when their quarterback had a passer rating of at least 130, but Winston went 0-2 in those games. Winston lost a third game in overtime where he never touched the ball, and two more games to AFC East teams with remarkable sequences of events. Against Buffalo, in a game that was 20-20 late in the fourth quarter, Winston drove the Bucs down the field and converted two third downs, including one for a touchdown, to take a 27-20 lead with 3:14 to go. The Bills responded by driving 75 yards in just three plays for a touchdown to tie the game. Winston took over with 2:28 to go, and his first pass was a completion to Adam Humphries who cut back into the middle of the field and fumbled. Buffalo kicked the game-winning field goal a few plays later. Against the Patriots, the Bucs passing attack was the best unit on the field. If you look at the EPA from that game, Tampa Bay’s pass offense was +9.96, its rushing offense -1.95, while the Patriots passing offense was +1.94 and its rushing offense -2.32. But Nick Folk missed three field goals, which proved to be the difference in the game. Winston’s season was similar to Kyle Orton’s 2010 season, which may not sound like a complement. Orton went 3-10 playing for a team that ranked 32nd in both points and yards allowed and had a mediocre running game. In fact, Winston and Orton are the only two quarterbacks since 2000 to (a) start 10+ games and throw 224+ passes, (b) have an ANY/A+ Index of at least 105 (solidly above average), and to lose at least 2.5 times as many games as they won. If we look at just Yards per Attempt+, Winston had a Y/A+ Index of 118, more than one standard deviation above average. Since 1970, just three QBs have been one standard deviation above average in Y/A+ and also lost three times as many games as they won. All three were number one overall picks who played with horrible defenses. Winston is 24 (he’ll be 25 in January), so there’s still time for him to improve. But the writing is on the wall for him to have a much better record in 2018. He was probably the most underrated quarterback of 2017.
you are also taking 3 games can acting like it means something. Hell I can cherry pick peyton manning's worst 3 game stretch too if you want, Brady, Brees, Marino, etc... anybody that has ever started a game. why don't you read what jameis can and did last year and actually bring something positive back instead of acting like a child and saying he played bad in a 3 game stretch
The bottom line is that with our defense, coaching, and front office, it won't matter who the qb is. If you can get something for JW that helps anything out, I'm good with bailing. If you can't and have to decide between him and Fitz, I'd play JW on ceilings alone. Doesn't make sense to cut him to free money up that the owners aren't going to spend anyway.
I'm not cherry picking anything. Brady, Brees, Marino, and Peyton were never benched for a 35 year old career journeyman in the early prime years of their career. It's not like these three games are the only poor performances Jameis has ever had. Jameis is certainly better than Fitz at certain things, but I think it's pretty clear that Fitz gives the Bucs a better chance at winning. Whether or not you agree with Tampa trying to win or tanking this season is on you, but realize that a third year HC isn't going to tank. Ever.
The entire coaching staff and front office needs purged and any players not named Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Lavonte David, and OJ Howard can get bent. Ryan Jensen is looking like another dreadful signing by Licht.
exactly. The OL, defense, and coaching already got mike smith fired and people wonder why he wasn't fired even before he got the axe. Kwon Alexander going down was a real killer. Fitz/Jameis has zero run game which doesn't help things and puts more pressure on every aspect
CONCENSUS. Finally! Everyone agrees the entire organization is awful. Arguing which one is the worst QB is a waste of time. It’ll play out. Eventually the Bucs will make a decision, and it will be the wrong one.
the stat the still stuns me a week after I saw it was that the Bucs have never given a QB a 2nd contract. Ever. I don't know how else you quantify that other than incompetence in every single part of the organization....drafting, management, coaching, ownership, etc..
The problem right now for me is we are not a playoff team with the secondary regardless. You play Winston out because fitz is not the answer period he is old and just jot a long term option so play jameis decide if you want him or not then move on either way.
Among the reasons I presented earlier as to why Fitz should/will play, Jameis’ option next year becomes fully guaranteed should he get injured. He’s in his 4th season. I’m not sure why you’d really need another 5 games or whatever. He came back and had an opportunity to seize the job, but he sucked. It is what it is at this point. He’ll get another opportunity if/when Fitz plays terribly, which is there is a solid chance of.
With as bad as QB play has been in this league I don’t think it matters. So jameis is around 1 more year and we still draft a QB this offseason. Jameis has not really been the problem our inept D has been. Not to mention our awful HC
It feels like we've had the worst kicking game in the league for several years, spanning several different kickers. At some point, you have to conclude that the problem is bigger than some bad signings imo
Defense and RBs look good today. Glad AP doesn't have 100 yards already, I'm still pissed about that Arizona game
Nfl fans can usually find a silver lining in being bad through having a good draft position. It does the opposite for me because we're so goddamn bad at it
I would like to know how many games the Bucs have lost due to kicking over the past 5 years or so. It has to be a depressing number.
