I will say one thing, I’m not the biggest fan of PV, but he has a great ability at getting them to be a team, and really play for one another. Love those videos.
For sure. Now, tactically I think he streets ahead of where he’s ever been and keeps getting better (a lot of that is Pinnacle and him sitting in on every single USSF coaching clinic). But as I’ve always said, if he ever had a spot in the USMNT it better not be at coach. Technical director, president, ceo, any/all of the above and he’d be great at finally bringing in a winning culture. If you read the pieces that Tenorio or McDowell wrote on him they both came back to one thing, culture culture culture. His 4 demands (not beliefs, traits, etc. actual demands) from everyone in the organization (not just the players/coaches/tech staff, everyone. Janitors, grounds crew, med staff, everyone) are: The team is always first. 100% work ethic 100% of the time. Always be intelligent. Only pursue excellence, and pursue it daily. What you have to respect about PV is he lives up to the standards he sets. He’ll ship off Amor after a lackluster open cup performance even though they spent $1 million on him. He’ll sit a Bieler until he starts practicing 100%. He’ll never play a Jeferson until he puts the team first. He’ll let MLS Cup MVP Collin walk because he showed up to a game in Vancouver hungover. The story that both Tenorio and McDowell used to describe his need for perfection was about a time he noticed the Swope training grounds weren’t as prestine as he wanted. So he showed up at 5 AM, wadded up some paper towels and placed them next to a trash can. He then watched and waiting all morning for someone tomoick them up. No one did so he called every single employee on the grounds (players, coaches, janitors, tech staff, etc) and fucking destroyed all of them. Just an irate tirade making everyone fear for their jobs. All over paper towels. Now in saying all of that. I’ve heard Zavagnin say multiple times that this is by far the best locker room they’ve ever had. Part of it is the veterans (Bes, Zeus, Seth, Ike, Rog) instilling that ‘Sporting way’ on the young guys. But the other part is that the new guys are exactly the type of players Vermes looks for. John, Pipe and Shelton care about winning and giving everything and anything to do it. Also I’ve heard Russel is legit one of the best/nicest humans on the planet. We aren’t the most talented team. And we don’t have the best tactics. But if we win the cup (and all of our cups over the past 5 years) it’ll be due to Pete’s culture.
Peter Vermes' singular attention to detail makes him perfect for Sporting Kansas City, but would it work for the USMNT? https://theathletic.com/606305/2018...-kansas-city-but-would-it-work-for-the-usmnt/
I’m LITERALLY wrong about everything 100% of the time but ILI-BAE and those long sleeves had my heart since day 1.
Sporting is always linked to Euro players we cant afford. They gave Espinoza a new contract so its not happening.
Don’t forget this piece of math friends: Nemeth + Providence Park = Wundergoals ^Thats just basic math. His 30 minutes in this match might make all the difference.
Love when Shelton wins the ball and there is nothing between him and the goal and he’s like “wtf am I supposed to do? Dribble towards the goal? Shoot? Wtf?”
Yeah, we need to find possession at some point this post season. Keep playing chippy. If we lure Valeri or Chara into a second yellow the return leg should be a breeze.
Back line has been great. Mid field has been sub par. They’re swarming Ilie with their 3 Dmids to take him out. Rog and Pipe need to step up and do something with their space.
Not too shabby from Mellinger https://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/sam-mellinger/article222303510.html
Sub-zero temps, la puma blanca in the house, give me a tech n9ne pregame concert and oh boy we got ourselves a stew
Hey!!!! We won’t have to face that away goal shI t anymore. SKC is best in the west. And we’ll be beat in the west. Ext year as well. All things coming up Sporting.
So we offered Shelton an extension and he’s turned it down saying he wants to play in Europe instead. Ok buddy.
I know Vermes said that his #1 goal this offseason was to get the squad 22 deep so they can go all out in CCL and Open Cup and not collapse like TFC. Wallace and Seth will be 1&2 at LB. Wallace plays it a lot more like Jimmy and goes forward a lot so we’ll see how that works. I bet we move Jimmy to midfield more to add more depth there. Hurtado will be on the wing in our system I have to imagine. Him and Gerso will be the back ups to Daniel and John. Nemeth and Diego in the middle.
I don’t see Hurtado as a CF at all especially if we play similar to last year. I really like Rowe. Pretty sure I said something about us trying for him last transfer window. I think he’d spell for Roger/Felipe and be more of a playmaking midfielder while whoever else plays will go B2B. Do we dare to think a true striker is coming or are we going to ride the Nemeth train all year?
“We need two high quality players at every single position,” Vermes told The Star earlier this month. “Going forward in this league, I think we have to have the capability of having two different teams. With the new schedule, I want to prepare the guys for the toll that’s going to take.” So are we planning on adding a striker and dmid still?
No clue who this is but Ike+Garber bucks to Chi for Nikolic. Gives us a golden boot winning striker and 4 outta the 4 MLS Hungarians.
