I really love Binge Mode. Mallory's laugh is the only thing that occasionally annoys me. The analysis is fantastic, the bits are all pretty funny, Jason's impressions are decent, love the Restricted section deep dives into Pottermore info, and just re-experiencing the series in a new way has been a blast. Can't recommend it highly enough and I'll be really sad when it's over.
Love everything about Binge Mode. I love when they occasionally analyze JKR’s skills as a writer as opposed to just the story itself. Makes me appreciate the incredible skill and craft she had to pull this whole world off.
Oh. my. gosh. shut up you stupid critics dogpiling on this movie saying it's a franchise killer and a disaster etc. It's fine. It's an 8/10, 3 star out of 4, perfectly good in places, iffy in others, but overall fine movie. If you're a HP fan you're going to like it a lot. Not love it probably, but like it a lot. It has some plot twists, because of course it does, but the biggest one is not all it appears to be, I suspect. And all the continuity errors and retcons people kept saying were there were not there. They were perfectly explained in the movie. Honestly, my biggest criticism is that there was too much happening, too many characters, etc. It felt like watching a Harry Potter movie without having read that particular book. Like, imagine watching The Half-Blood Prince without having read the HBP book, so many little things would blow right by you without any explanation. You'd be able to follow the basic plot but little things would mean nothing to you despite obviously meaning something. That happened more than twice here; it was evident that JKR was the screenwriter and she wrote it like a novel-adaptation.
Spoiler theory: Credence isn't actually some long lost Dumbledore brother. He's just a loser kid whom the obscurial latches onto. The obscurial is Ariana Dumbledore's obscurial. The movie establishes that the obscurial can detach from its original host and latch onto another. That's the connection to Dumbledore, that's why Grindelwald has been obsessed for two movies with trying to get Credence in his grasp. That's his ace in the hole to either keep Dumbledore at bay or kill him if needed.
When you say Spoiler The movie establishes that theobscurial can detach from itsoriginal host and latch onto another. Where was that? I don’t remember that at all.
Massive hp fan I know saw it early and said he disliked it more than the first I’m more of a casual fan so magic and beasts and I’ll probably be content
Haven't seen it yet, but I loved the first. People who are so protective and critical of book and film franchises (looking at you Star Wars fans) to where they can't find enjoyment in any interpretations that don't fit their narrative are the worst. Of course this movie could completely suck, but if it's like the first one I think it will be good.
Very casual fan here, but best fran is huge fan....so I went to the IMAX event on Tuesday and again last night. Think it's my favorite HP movie.
Yeah none of them are "great" movies, for sure. As a filthy casual, they've been mildly entertaining. Thought Grindelwald exceeded that standard by quite a bit.
There were good/great performances like Harris as Dumbledore and Emma Watson as Hermione , but the first 8 moves (counting Deathly Hallows as 2 movies) all sucked balls both plot and direction wise.
I tend to disagree to an extent. I don't think any of them really sucked balls (excluding the travesty that is 7.2, that one sucked balls), but I don't think any of them were that great either. With that said, I think they did a mostly decent job with the movies when the books were so fantastic. It likely would be impossible for the movies to live up to the books, though I think that is the norm.
Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe lack any semblance of charm, charisma, or talent. Hot take: Didn't really like Oldman's take on Sirius, thought they should have gone younger and leaned more into the older guy who was suspended in time and thought his friend's son was really his friend angle. 2nd Dumbledore was an atrocity.
If I die and there isn't some 10+-episode per school year series, I'm gonna be a pretty pissed off dead guy.
This is what I've wanted for ages. The problem is I don't see Netflix getting the rights and I don't see HBO wanting to do it. If it happens it won't be for another ten years minimum I think.
I enjoyed goblet of Fire as a bit of a guilty pleasure And the end of DHp1 with dobby’s death wrecked me
Does any of the HP movies deserve to even shine the shoes of Peter Jackson's 3 Lord of the Rings book-to-movie adaptations? The movies all sucked balls. Its like grading comic book movies on a Spider Man 1 scale instead of a The Dark Knight scale.
Yeah my other option was linking the video with the timestamp to the quote but this seemed ever so slightly easier to digest.
I liked CoG, but the plot was definitely a little confusing. Probably needs another movie to determine its true quality. Wish it had stood on its own a little more. Still enjoyable though.
Ending was really good but rather boring in the middle Spoiler have to laugh at JKR essentially doing an spin on the original SW with Credence as a sort of evil Luke and this movie as the ESB
Enjoyed the movie thoroughly, but it felt like a bit of a bridge movie. Grindelwald, Newt, and (to a lesser extent) Queenie were the only characters that were fleshed out from movie 1 to 2. I really don't see what purpose Kowalski had continuing to be part of the story besides advancing Queenie's plot. Hope he's done (I know he's not). Jude Law was good as Dumbledore. More in line with Richard Harris than Michael Gambon, which is good. Hope they give him more depth in the ensuing films. Loved Depp's performance. A bit about no more Zoë Kravitz. She's a great actress and pleasing to look at. I think the Fantastic Beasts movies are significantly better than the Harry Potter movies so far.
Whole family thought it was kinda confusing, hard to hear at times though maybe that was the theatre, and just kinda eh. We all loved the first one so this was a bit disappointing. Wasn’t bad, just not what I hoped for I guess.
My wife liked it I very much disliked this movie, the plot was umm terrible (to prevent Hitler you must embrace Magic Hitler)
