I know Hoi An has been getting a ton of pub recently, but I spent 3 days there and was not impressed. Beaches are meh, and the city is pretty tiny. It is one of the best places in the world for suits, though. Hanoi + 2-3 days in Halong + 2-3 days in Sapa. There is an overnight train from Hanoi to Sapa, about 8 hours, that is super nice. Can also take the bus for about 4-5 hours. If youve never seen the picturesque rice patties in southeast China/north Vietnam, would highly recommend. Ninh Binh is a day trip from Hanoi, too, but I didn’t make it.
since its now half an hour after I responded to Ark i'm now leaning towards the South and Central Vietnam trip (flights are in/out of Saigon so can't change that). would only spend one full day/2nights in Hoi An. same in Hue. will come back and do a North Vietnam trip in the future
have 21 days free in the beginning of January and just kind of sitting and waiting for something killer to pop up
yeah gotten a couple of them but nothing supppeeeerrrr good especially since it'd require a positioning flight waiting for one to include minneapolis or be cheap enough to warrant the likely LAX flight
You can probably get to Chicago for next to nothing points wise via UR to southwest. Maybe 15k per person round trip
Back in 2013 our airb&b on Oahu fell through six weeks before we were set to go (summertime) - unit got sold and the new owner decided not to honor the previous rental arrangements and paid us a small cancellation penalty with our refund. We had to scramble to find anything with 3 bdrms, and ended up getting a Ko Olina condo for around $700/night, because it was just about all we could find on such short notice that would fit the family comfortably.
When we went earlier this year we got unseasonably high tides. Our Airbnb host had some rain boots in the apartment for it and the city puts out elevated boards to walk on in certain areas. I had never heard of it until we got there so that was interesting
Anyone ever done Lisbon and another city in Spain (Barca/Madrid, etc.) in one week? Wanted to do Lisbon and Porto but the latter didn't appear as interesting.
I've heard porto > Lisbon but also heard good things about Lisbon so basically they're both probably dope. Both of those cities are sub 2 hours from the Spanish cities so you should have no issue with that. What time of year? If its warm I highly recommend Mallorca
I’ve done Lisbon and Barcelona and loved both. Lisbon is definitely a lot smaller than I anticipated, but still had a good time.
Porto is incredible. You really can't go wrong with any combination of Lisbon/Porto/Madrid/Barca. But, I would try to restrict it to only 2 cities in just a week.
Mallorca is absolutely incredible. But you have plenty of options. Madrid is really cool but I like Seville and Mallorca better
I lived abroad in Valencia 10 years ago but never made it to Mallorca or Seville. Recommend over Madrid/Barca?
Madrid reminds me a lot of New York so we will probably skip. We want to spend 3 days in Lisbon and 3 days in a Spanish city, so not sure Seville has enough to do for 3 days. Mallorca looks amazing but definitely not beach weather in March
There's a lot to Mallorca that isn't beaches. I found it just really phenomenal. But I get wanting to go when it's warm. I'd say Seville definitely has 3 days worth. I did that and could have done more. Granted, my cousins had been living there for 6 months at the time so made it different.
Looking at a trip to Palm Springs in January. Anyone with recs for places to stay, restaurants, to do etc? Looking at the Parker Hotel and the Kimpton maybe. Although would consider larger resorts like the Ritz, etc. Probably like 3-4 nights so a short trip.
Kimpton is a much better location. Can walk anywhere. Parker you would have to uber to get to anything. Andreas hotel and Colony palms are good places if you want a little smaller place. Lots of good restaurants. My favorite is rooster and the pig. Its a vietnamese fusion place. Some other good ones to look at would be Workshop, Sandfish, eight 4 nine. Farm is great for breakfast/brunch. L'Atelier is also good.

Belize maybe? Have heard awesome things about Guatemala. Cancun down to Tulum, or somewhere else on that coast. San Diego would be easy domestically.
Did Belize earlier this year Tulum or Cabo would be the first plays. but I need to work most of that Friday the 21st, so finding a late afternoon flight has been a bitch
Hawaii and NYE all booked. Staying here in Victoria for a few days over NYE (also dog friendly, so bringing the mutt from Seattle): https://www.chateauvictoria.com/ Looking for a party/some sort of event for NYE. *** Land Thursday mid-morning in Kauai, rent a Wrangler and drive to Waimea. Probably stop in Poipu on the way from the airport for lunch/exploring. Plan is to eat at Porky's BBQ and Isihara Market for Poke. Staying in some small cottages for Thursday and Friday night. Friday will go to Polihale beach. pianoman FriendsofJtyler -- how difficult is it to drive to Polihale? All the reviews say how close you can get depends on how much it has rained recently, and it's kind of a gnarly road Saturday wake up and do the Awaawapuhi trail, maybe another if she's up for it. Hit up some Waimea Canyon lookout on the way back. Drive from Waimea to Hanalei Saturday PM, about 1 1/2 hours. Saturday night in the airbnb, Sunday explore Hanalei, probably beach it again. Any food recs for the north of the island are recommended. Fly out Monday at 4:00 PM, land back in Seattle around midnight.
The road to polihale is completely dependent on how much it has rained recently. But we did it a sedan and we were fine. You guys will be fine in a Jeep.
No. You get your own little tiny room. It’s awesome. Though you can get a queen bed room for 2, which is what the gf and I got. After an overnight flight and long layover it’s the greatest. You can also shower as well.
any specific domestic route youre looking for a substantial sale on? most of the big savings opportunities are international tbh
Denver to Nashville. I see Alaska is one of the few that do a big sale. I have family in Seattle and friends in Portland.
When we went in the summer of 2017 the road was in bad shape, glad we had a Jeep. When we went in the summer of 2018, the road had been repaved and didn’t need a four wheel drive vehicle. Easy drive. When we went in 2017 it was hot and windy but when we went in the summer of 2018 it was amazing. Perfect weather, great sunset, huge amount of stars. I could’ve slept on that beach.
