I don’t want to speak for the #Georgia Bulldogs, but no Danny, I don’t think they gave a shit about the fucking Liberty Bowl.
If NU wins the B1G that means they just beat a top 5 team in OSU or UM. I get Russilo's point, but see no downside to an eight team playoff with the conference champs in the P5 getting automatic bids.
not much different than a cinderella in March Madness? It'd be a rare occurrence but could be kinda cool. Plus it would act as Alabama's bye if they played NW
It defeats what makes college football great. You think a team with 4 losses including losses to Akron and Duke should get a shot at the title?
it would happen so rarely I don't think it is a viable argument against an 8 team playoff. NW is going to be a 10+ point dog in the B1G title game.
Northwestern lost every out of conference game they played this season. That alone seems to be reason enough for me.
My "shot at the title" is in regards to the conference championship being essentially a playoff game. No team with a resume like that should be given a shot period.
So you would rather a panel pick 8 teams? I think we can all agree that NU situation is an outlier and that they arent even going to win the B1G. The conference championship games are a de-facto first round of the playoffs as it is. If there is an upset that team deserves to move on.
Why not have the AP and Coaches just pick the winner after the bowl games that computers set up like we had before?
He thinks a 7-4 northwestern should have a shot. They aren’t deserving no matter what they do rest of the season.
yeah, that's not a good take. and i'm not a fan of basketball teams getting in the tourney cause they win 4 games in a row, with a losing record. but i do think there's 6+ teams each year that have a case to get in. maybe 6 is the golden number, with 1 and 2 getting a bye? dont think this is the right thread for the discussion. back to kanell's freezing cold takes, i'm sure hes got more.
They should have a shot if there was an eight team playoff and if they beat UM/OSU in the B1G championship. I literally didnt know there were people out there that thought an eight team playoff was bad for the game.
I actually don’t hate that 6 setup. Thing is 6, 8, 16 theres always going to be comparable teams that think they deserve a shot and the more teams in the more that will think they should have got in.
The 2012 season is why conference champions shouldn't get auto bids. SEC- 1 Loss Alabama ranked 2nd. Big 12- 1 Loss Kansas State ranked 5th. Big 10- 5 Loss Wisconsin Unranked Pac 12- 2 Loss Stanford ranked 6th ACC- 2 Loss Florida State ranked 12th At Large #1 Ranked Notre Dame #3 Ranked Florida #4 Ranked Oregon You leave out the 7th and 8th ranked teams for 12 and Unranked. The 2012 Georgia team probably beats every team on this list (other than Alabama) but they aren't in because they didn't win the conference that had 5 of the top 10 in the Final BCS. Until you have uniformity in conferences in terms of depth, number of games and teams then handing a bid to the playoff based on winning your conference is silly.
People want an 8 team playoff for various reasons. Well the SECCG is a defacto playoff game. If you want in, win your games. If you lose, well you're out of the playoff. Alabama has beaten everyone by 24 points or more this year and that's great but win your games and you're in. I fully expect Alabama to win this weekend.
For once I agree with Danny. If by some miracle we find a way to beat Bama I sure as shit don't want to turn around and play them again in the playoffs.
If Bama is the team you don't want to play, doesnt that show they should be in? It's about getting the best 4 teams, not who lost early rather than late.
I wasn't arguing Bama shouldn't be in, simply making a statement about how I don't want to play Bama twice.
