When i started keto i was eating probably 1/4 lb of cheese per day. Then i realized i actually like a lot more vegetables than i thought. My colon thanked me.
How is it ordering that? McDonalds made it easier now with the kiosks; they even wrap the patties in lettuce.
Kale, spinach, collards, mushrooms, bok choy, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, chard I'd love to experiment with some bamboo. Its really high in potassium.
I have more energy and drive when I’m not eating carbs. The post snack/meal insulin slump made me useless for an hour. I even switched to a standing desk so I can move more, but that may just be the weight loss.
How is everyone’s cholesterol on this diet? I’ve also read that some doctors believe overconsumption of protein increases your cancer risk.
Zero evidence on that, also cholesterol is not a great market of health or risk of heart attack. More and more studies are coming out supporting that
Keto is the only diet that’s ever worked for me. I’ll do it while limiting my calories to <1600 per day and the weight flies off. My go-to’s are: Grilled chicken wings Taco salads on romaine Bunless burgers Grilled fish Cold cuts Bacon & eggs Lots of cheeses Almonds Quest bars addressed my sweet craving, and I drink of ton of water, Diet Coke, and diet Snapple. r/keto and r/ketorecipes are great resources
Keto stresses moderate protein bc any excess is convertes into sugar. My cholesteral has gone down quit a bit since started. I have no idea how that works but fuck it.
I love tacos/fajitas. So I buy the Mama Lupes low carb tortilla wraps (3g carb) for each one. Buy a bag of the steak and a bag of the chicken fajitas. Do that, put some sour cream, lettuce, melted pepperjack and some hot sauce on them. I’m doing them in a bit so I’ll take a picture.
All cooked in one skillet. Melt butter and coconut oil, throw in a couple solid slices of hog jowl cooked until literally all the fat is in the skillet, slice up half an avacado and sear it, throw in some cut of meat idc whatever, when the meat ia done throw in 2-3 eggs, when the eggs are done throw whatever greens and other veggies in there to soak up all that fat (kale is the best for that imo thats why i use it most). Seasoned with pink salt, no salt (for added potassium), paprika, and cayenne. Will add lemon if the meat is fish.
Cholesterol is better than ever and being fat is much worse than any inconclusive protein vs cancer relationship.
Could stand to lose a few but really interested in the mental clarity, increase in energy levels, and cessation of hunger/cravings. Is drinking a cup or two of broth enough of a Na supplement to avoid the flu symptoms? K and Mg via pill and just take as directed on the bottle? How long does this supplementation need to continue? Anything to know about the occasional binge night of bourbon, whiskey, etc besides the lowering of inhibitions? I already drink them neat or with a splash of water anyway so that shouldn't be a problem. What's your failsafe when at an unknown restaurant?
Completed my first day Breakfast- leftover chorizo but no taco shell like normal. Lunch- chipotle. This sucked because I forgot about the lettuce ban. Double chicken, little cheese, little sour cream, fajita veggies, chipotle tobacco Dinner- eggs and turkey bacon No offense to the whole 30 crowd but this diet just seems way more sustainable. Day 1 and I wanted to kill myself on that.
Everyone should invest in some Brazil nuts. Super high in selenium, 1-2 nuts a day will put you at your rdl. Selenium is an antioxidant and good for your thyroid dawg
Been doing keto and 18:6 IF for usually 10ish months a year for the last 3 years. It absolutely changed my life and the way I think about food. Lot of good stuff already in here. Just would add my go to list at the store for ideas to help: Avocado, spinach, eggs, kerrygold butter, asparagus (keto piss+asparagus piss is something serious), some kind of cheese, seaweed snacks, meat obviously, pork rinds, sardines, and I love sugar free jello or dark chocolate every once in a while. Outside of water and coffee, all I usually drink is a mix of water, lemon juice, 1 stevia and lite salt for electrolytes. Macros are obviously important but don't forget to supplement or eat healthy vegetables to help with micros. It will make a difference in how you feel day to day and keep those risky keto farts at bay. When you're working out or driving and want some easy motivation, listen to Dr. Rhonda Patrick, Dom D'agostino, Dr. Peter Attia, or Nina Teicholz on Rogans podcast. Rhonda Patrick episodes the fucking best. All very informative and help me deal with the constant questioning of my diet from people at work, etc.
The only things I needed were potassium, magnesium, and lots of table salt. The magnesium and potassium sources need to be bioavailable, and the drug store nature’s made stuff is the MgOxide or the Potassium Oxide that’s only bioavailable at a few percent. The stuff in bulk multivitamins is not very bioavailable either. Magnesium glycinate is almost 100% available so I take it before bed. It's supposed to be calming...they give it to anxiety patients to help with grinding teeth etc. so some people take it as a sleep aid too. Potassium Gluconate or citrate is bioavailable as well. Potassium is important for heart function so you don't need to over do or under do it. I'd follow the recommended dose on the bottle. As for table salt, as much as you want and then some if you think you need it. Stan Efferding advises all his lifters on the vertical diet, sort of an offshoot of keto, to get 3-6 grams per day. Not a doctor.
Just ate a bombass salad for lunch. 1 cup raw spinach, 1/2 package "carving board" ham, 2 tbsp bacon crumbles, 3 hardboiled eggs, 2 tbsp ranch dressing. 6 net carbs. In the future, I'll buy turkey or chicken which will have fewer carbs, but I had the ham on hand.
Lost about 30 in a very short period of time. Just got back on it to lose a few more. I have a lot of energy on this diet.
Never in my life so that was an easy transition for me. I’ve probably helped 20+ people go keto between the gym and work. If people quit, beer is almost always the reason
tuna 1/2 avocado scoop of primal mayo few squirts of mustard 2 cheese sticks 2g net going to add spinach and hard boiled eggs next time, i just didn't have any this morning
What are thoughts on if you don't go full keto, but incorporate some of the meals/habits into your weekly diet? Also saying you'd still eat some meals with carbs, drink beer, etc. just not as much as you normally would.
the more fats the better no matter what my goal is 3 mo then modified after with more stuff like quinoa and the occasional ipa
slow digestible carbs >>>>>>>>>>>> basically avoid all added sugars and quick carbs like white bread and desserts
I'm not smart enough to even regurgitate Dr. Patrick but what I understood is that problems arise from consuming a high amount of carbs and fat at the same time. Carbs are much easier for your body to break down and we will essentially store excess fat. So I always thought it was bad to be half way on the keto train. If I'm ingesting high amounts of fat I really try to stay away from carbs.
I’m hypoglycemic due to an over production of insulin in response to sugar. I have pretty strong sugar cravings in the mornings and have huge crashes after bingeing on sugar, especially if I’m not taking adderall. I’m cutting out Mountain Dew which I would usually drink in the afternoons for the kick. Someone please coach me up on Keto specific to the hypoglycemia issue because I’m tired of the crash cycles and ready to eat healthier and lose some lbs. I just need to cut out this fucking sugar. Also my Sous vide arrives this week so I’m looking forward to prepping keto meals if anyone has any sources for keto Sous vide meals.
Insulin spikes anytime you eat, the more carbs involved the higher the spike. I would think keto + intermittent fasting would help you, but I'm not a doctor.
Does anyone have kids that follows this? I don’t want to have to cook separate things for them. Is there any thing I need to know about having them it like this? I was reading the Reddit link posted ITT and it was kinda split on working out how often do you guys workout and has anything suffered?
I just bought a shit ton of steak/eggs/bacon/chicken/asparagus/butternut squash/zucchini i'll probably quit this in 3 days when I run out of food
