Nothing says you've written yourself in a corner more than releasing books outside the timeline of your current, and unfinished, series. Whatever. I'll still read it.
is it any good? I won’t buy it but maybe it’s worth a download. it’s crazy how my interest in this series has dwindled. 5-10 years ago I would have been up all night reading.
It’s written in the same style as AWOIAF. I’m about 100 pages in and it’s been a decent read so far. I found in AWOIAF you didn’t really meet the Targ kings whereas this book humanizes them a lot in terms of their personality and decision-making. Worth a read
It does in stretches but I find it more captivating. I found AWOIAF was only worth it for the illustrations tbh. The Aegon 1 chapter is word for word the same as in AWOIAF but then it starts to go into details about Aenys’ and Maegor’s upbringing and stuff
Alright I’m like 250 pages in and I must admit it’s a really solid read. I’d 100% watch a series on the life of Jaehaerys 1
I’m about 450 pages in and really enjoying it so far Dunk and egg novellas are probably my favorite stories in the Westeros world tho
Interesting read on how it all came together and why he prioritized it over WoW. Basically he was pissed the show ruined some reveals and didnt want that to happen again, since the new series will be based in stuff in Fire and Blood. https://warsandpoliticsoficeandfire...talizing-new-clues-about-the-winds-of-winter/
DARN THOSE TV PEOPLE SPOILING MY UNFINISHED STORIES! *proceeds to sit around doing jack shit with said series*
Local bookstore was running a sale so I picked this up Just jonesing for a new read in this universe so I hope it keeps my interest
If you want an incredible breakdown of Robert's Rebellion and the background leading up to it... This is a huge series of videos, explaining history, breaking down theories, piecing things together, etc. Its fantastic
About 100 pages in on F&B and my god at the back story and detail he's put in on just the Aegon and Maegor stuff. I really wanted to hate this and him for not prioritizing WoW but can't. I love this world.
Yeah there is so much intrigue and depth to the world. He really is the American Tolkien, except Tolkien finished Lord of the Rings and left The Silmarillion mostly unfinished. George has it backwards.
Tolkien is the standard, but he never wrote a story like the Red Wedding. It’s one of the best written stories in literature. Maybe he could have. Times were different and descriptions of gore to this level might not have been allowed.
Any of you guys seen indeepgeek’s videos on Bloodraven and what he’s been up to all this time? Pretty fascinating, imo
This is one theory. The other is that it will actually tackle the early days of the Children, First Men, etc., interaction.
I actually want it to be about the Dance precisely because he wrote so much about it. The more complete source material a TV writer has to draw on, the better the series will be. GOT has diminished in quality ever since they went off-piste.
It’s a history book and it reads like one. Not a single detail that’s not completely necessary. That’s why it’s easier to read, imo
Just finished. Holy shit at the back story he gives all these people. I could read a book like this about a few other Houses in Westeros. Wish they would've went all the way to the Mad King tho, want to read about the Blackfyre Rebellions. Found a family tree that really helps out while you're reading: Targ
Got the hardcover for Christmas, just finished it. Good read, can't wait for part two. I echo the others in here who want to read about the Blackfyre and Robert's Rebellions.
How is this thread not even 2 pages? I just saw that the show is coming out on HBO and completely missed that a book had been released in 2018. Just ordered it.
It also reads like a dry text book rather than a griping story. That said, I’ll probably re-read the Dance of Dragon chapters as well as the 2 novellas before House of Dragon starts
I'm like 40 pages in and it is more like a history book but still find it pretty interesting. Not sure if it gets better or worse. I'm through the first Dornish War.
Should I read this before the show comes out? I’ve read the 5 originals and the dunk and egg stories.
Depends, it reads more like a textbook than any other material in the season but the storyline and layering is quite good
