If you ever have a hard time believing stories about eagles picking up small animals and flying away That pic is a juvenile Crowned eagle
There's a video of this Canadian guy who feeds dozens of bald eagles in his yard. The eagles are just hopping around like raptors , eating fish heads out of a bucket, while this guys 5 year old little girl is playing right beside them
That's it. Seemed scarier in my memory. Still wild to see those dinosaurs just hopping around the little kids
My childhood home was in a big plot of forested acreage. We learned from a pretty young age what to do when you see a Cougar because we would see them often. You also learn that they wanted to kill you, you would be dead. Absolute beasts. My buddy got this big guy a few years ago on his property after killing some of his sheep. Probably about 150lbs.
First step is to ever avoid seeing a cougar. Keep kids and dogs close to you, travel in groups. Make noise when hiking to not startle them, if they hear you they will generally leave the area. If you do run into a cougar...dont run, it triggers a natural prey drive to chase. Stare it down and make yourself big and loud. Throw rocks, waive sticks etc. They really dont want to ever get hurt so if they think that they might have a fight on their hands they will just leave. If they do attack, go for the eyes.
Cougar attacks are incredibly rare. They’re really not trying to fuck with humans. The fatal ones that occurred in Washington and Oregon this year were the first in 94 years and the first recorded for those respective states. When you consider how much outdoor activity is going on in the PNW, those are pretty staggering figures. Still best to know what to do should you encounter one, though.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/29/world/canada/grizzly-bear-attack-yukon.html this is just too awful to imagine
Christ that’s horrifying. I’d be tempted to wear that bear’s skin like the Lord of Winterfell for the rest of my days.
I heard a hunting guide on a podcast say "you don't have to go to fantasy or horror movies...... There are real live monsters out there"
I love and hate Pelicans. they are so damn cool to watch dive and shit but when they snag a fish you have on the line and have to reel in a big ass bird to release it it's a bitch.
God: "hmm how can I make a snake more terrifying? OH I KNOW! I'll put a spider on its tail that it uses to catch prey!"
