He’s worried about the kid getting bad habits. I kind of get it. Personally though, I want him to play in the WJC.
I get it, but seems like if the Red Wings arent worried about it, then it's probably not an issue. Also, it's just two weeks. How many bad habits could you possibly pick up, that stick.
Hronek and Zadina have two points each through two periods tonight. We need to clear out someone on the point so Hronek can play on the big club. He’s too good for the AHL.
Old school Wings v Avs tonight, two fights. Bert sticking up for AA who got nailed and Mantha defending Larkin getting smashed into boards
We aren’t recalling anyone yet but I could see Zadina getting the call if they determine he isn’t going to the WJC.
DeToxRox - from what I've read he will be staying down in GR to continue playing big minutes, they also want someone who is better suited for PK. I'm thinking Hicketts or Sulak...hoping it's not Lashoff or Mcilrath
I think Sulak made a better impression than Hicketts so that wouldn’t shock me. I wouldn’t mind McIlrath either just because he can sit in the press box. I just don’t trust Blashill to consistently put whoever is called up in the lineup.
It’ll get worse over time but winning because guys like Larkin, Athanasiou, Cholowski, etc., doesn’t anger me. Nyquist is a stud this season. He will fetch quite a haul at the deadline if he keeps this up.
Yea the young guys developing and playing well makes me happier than if they all were awful and we tanked. Just hope by the deadline we are out of it and Holland isnt going to trade for a washed up guy to make a playoff push and hold on to guys like Gus
We should be trying to move Gus now while his value is high. Don't see his production staying at nearly a PPG all season.
The young guys have been fun to watch and it's certainly encouraging for the next couple years. No beef with that. Holland was on Hockey Central with Jeff Marek yesterday and stated he is NOT looking to move any pieces for another 4-6 weeks minimum (when asked specifically about the interest in Howard). At that point he'll see where they are in the standings and make decisions blah blah blah. This is not surprising but disappointing. Howard has a market now and may not have one in mid January. They are not going to be buyers no matter what, that is not a concern. The two concerns are 1. They stand pat and do not trade Gus, Howard and Jensen because the team keeps winning enough to be in playoff contention 2. Win enough games to pick 10th or something in the draft. The Wings need another star or two to make noise in the playoffs. The best odds to get that star is in the top 5 of the draft. It's not the only way but it's the best odds.
FA at end of season, get value for him now because we aren't going anywhere this season instead of him leaving for nothing in offseason Same logic for moving Tatar last year and it get us Veleno and more
To be fair, which Im not sure Holland deserves, but he's not going to scuttle whatever value he might have or fan/ownership perception outight saying we're selling. hoss2183 If I had faith Kenny was good at his job I would say that's the public message whilst working behind the scenes trying to trade those pieces.
https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2018/12/07/who-will-be-gm-of-seattle-franchise/ "So, whenever they do hire a general manager, who would they consider? As McKenzie mentioned in the video above, Ken Holland could be one of the front-runners for the job. He has a ton of experience, he’s put together championship teams, and the Red Wings appear to have a successor for him in the form of Steve Yzerman. Holland signed an extension with the Wings last April, but it was only a two-year deal. That contract was also signed before Yzerman decided to walk away from his job with the Lightning. Even though the Red Wings have had some lean years lately, It’s easy to see why Seattle would want Holland. His track record speaks for itself. While working for Detroit, Holland helped build a team that won four Stanley Cups between 1997-2008. If the NHL’s newest team wants experience, he could be a great option."
I agree. I think he deserves credit...at least for the last few years where it doesn’t seem he has placed a wrong step. It’s very easy to criticize him but none of us know the extent to what pressure was placed on him from ownership to stay relevant (my guess is a lot). I’m not sure why he would offer a time frame of 4-6 weeks when asked the question. I think he actually is telling the truth with that answer. It’s more just a fear that the organization remains too loyal to Howard and don’t take offers.
Looks like we are back to fighting a bunch. It makes me furious that Cholowski is playing with Witowski and yet Larkin is the guy fighting. Literally the only throng Witowski can do is get punched in the face. No one in the top 6 should be fighting (except for Abby. Lol at him being in the top 6). I was bummed that no one on the Isles wanted to go with Ericsson last time. He is a horrible hockey player but the guy is still a decent heavyweight. I would have loved to see him tee off on Martin.
Also I know people were livid when we passed on Vilardi for Rasmussen, but Vilardi is apparently out again with another back injury. I just don’t think his body can last in the NHL. Ras has been solid this year. I still think he’s a 25-30 goal scorer in the vain of Anders Lee, but he needs to get stronger on his skates. He’s on the ice way too much for someone his size. That will come eventually. When it does, look out.
The points are sporadic but Pronman saw him live last weekend and said he looked great. Apparently he was out of both games this weekend with a minor injury, but he should be good for the WJC.
Bultman had a good article about the impact of the Seattle expansion draft on the Wings. Three nuggets he dropped I didn’t know: 1. Zadina is in fact exempt so long as he plays less than ten games this year. I thought we had to protect him no matter what, so this is huge. 2. Nielsen’s NMC turns into a No Trade prior to the draft, so he doesn’t automatically have to be protected. 3. Gustav Lindstrom would need to be protected. Not sure that one will matter but right now the only two D worth a salt are Cholo and Hronek, so maybe that opens a spot for Lindstrom. We will inevitably add new players but as of today the draft shouldn’t hurt us at all. My sense is that third D spot could be tied up by Erik Karlsson. I don’t know why, I just have a feeling he signs here this summer.
Yes, but there are already a bunch of teams that are going to be making moves with an eye towards the future. The Predators for example might decide to move a top 4 D over the next few seasons rather than lose that player to Seattle for nothing.
Erik Karlsson, really? Didn't even realize he was in the last year of his contract. Why would he want to come to the Wings? You seen an article on it?
All the Swedes he respects will speak glowingly about the organization. I assume if Yzerman comes in, he’s going to be ultra aggressive trying to land him.
Isles tonight. That game got real ugly last weekend, and the Isles employ quite a few goons. Naturally, in a game we need Witowski over someone like Ehn, we won’t play him.
