Brother I'll be the first to opine that the guy has put out shitty music for about 30 years or so.

Save for a few individual tracks, if its not on an album between Greetings and Born in the USA, I can't stomach it.

But he's definitely a good guy that I wouldn't mind running into one day.

I just had a bad experience at one of his shows so my opinion is tainted. I’m still not a big fan of his music but from everything I’ve heard he’s a solid dude.

Why are you so concerned about my thoughts on Springsteen’s music? Yes he’s talented it’s just not my cup of tea for the most part. I did like that song though. I’d never heard it before, just all his mainstream hits. Maybe I’ll check out his catelog more and reevaluate my opinion.

Not the same at all but I’ll counter with this.

Eh, I was trying to make a crossover joke about your impending fatherhood. It’s fine if he’s not your cup of tea, but you’re missing out. I highly recommend a deep dive.

Yeah I got it but I did like the song. Fatherhood is not currently impending right now though but who knows what the future entails. Time will tell. I just decided to post random country folk stuff in here. Mainly because I just wanted to listen to it.

Come on over to the DBT/Isbell thread for alt country and folk. But if you ever need Boss recommendations, every song mentioned in here is great.

Cool. Good looking out. I’ve never been in that thread but I’ll check it out. I usually stay in the heavy music thread but I do like some folk/country stuff. I like some crusty punkrocker folk too.

Because, I mean, who has that opinion besides Billy Joel's mom? Does she even have that opinion? I doubt it.

Billy Joel blows him away on the charts. 3 #1 singles. 0 for Bruce. Top 10’s 13-10 Billy. Charted singles 42-26 Billy.

I’ll give Bruce ticket sales. But keep in mind that most of Bruce’s concert revenue was made after 2000, so we’re not comparing apples to apples. He’s ringing up victory laps, not supporting releases.

Using that logic Drake and Elvis somehow live in the same musical dimension.

I was Bruce radicalized in college the first time I watched the version of "Prove it All Night" from the Passiac, New Jersey concert on the Darkness tour. It was like being struck by a bolt of lightning. I just couldn't comprehend the passion, the anger, the vibrancy - how it felt like he was channeling so much inner pain and conflict into creating something beautiful. I downloaded all the '78 bootlegs I could get a hold on - Roxy LA, Cleveland, Atlanta, Phoenix, all the fucking classic shows, but the Passaic one always stood out to me.

There are a ton of Springsteen shows here. No idea of the quality, and the listing does not help you there. You can click on the streaming .asx files to preview them (Winamp/VLC/etc) and then download if you wish.

If you can find the 77-78 show from Towson State U. I'd be willing to bet the girl he wrote Backstreets about was in the audience that night and he knew it. I know he had a break he did in the middle of the song on every show of the tour but the FIRE he delivers it with in that show is absolutley incredible. Best performance of that song (my undisputed favorite song) ever imo.

Been feeling pretty down lately and revisited some of the underrated / off the radar Bruce songs that give me comfort:

-Dry Lightning and Youngstown off Tom Joad
-Wish I Were Blind off Human Touch
    -For You off Greetings
-Saint in the City off Hammersmith Odeon '75
-Side 2 of Tunnel of Love (pretty mainstream Bruce actually)
-First side of The Rising (same)

New album out - getting really good reviews (83 on metacritic with 25 reviews reporting).

Gave it a full listen tonight and like it a lot so far. Probably best studio album since Magic, but that's a low bar to climb (re-listening to Magic tonight as well, think that's a stone cold classic). I really like the orchestral flourishes but kind of ironically the songs I might like best on the record are the simplest ones - "Hello Sunshine", "Midnight Motel", "Somewhere North of Nashville" etc.

I've listened to Nebraska straight through three times this week. Not sure what has spawned this, maybe the virus or current state of shit. Maybe it's because it's one of the greatest American albums ever who knows?
