Put some Electrical Tape on that shiny metal joint - it’s gonna burn your fingers / hand when you’re not fully awake one of these days.

The minute I got my hands on that kettle, all i could do was admire the design and then curse the product designers for putting that fucking strip on there. The 3M Super 33 is about the right width thankfully and works decently if you wind up a couple turns - honestly, the all black looks better.

You need a better grinder for Espresso imo.

As modevil said, I'd save for a better grinder and maybe a breville infuser (the one without the grinder) to start with. I have one and it serves the purpose - most mornings, I pull 2 double shots and it goes without a hitch. The steam wand is pretty easy to use as well. I know a lot of people recommend gaggia machines on the lower end but they're not worth it. You need something with a PID for a stable water temperature, which gaggia lacks and they're cheaply made - especially the boiler and you don't want a plastic steam wand if you care about what goes in you coffee.

Doing some grinder research now because I'm thinking about changing up my setup. If you'll be doing both espresso and drip, you might want to check out the helor 101. If you get it from prima coffee, they give you 2 different burrs that grind at both levels of coarseness that you'll need

Does anyone have any recommendations for a kettle/water heater that is programmable to come on at a certain time? I have only come across one and it has mediocre reviews.

Your best bet may be to get one of those $10 smart plugs, if the kettle has a hard switch that can be left in the on position

This. I've got a Bonavita gooseneck that I fill up with water every night. When I first wake up in the AM, I turn it on. By the time I visit the bathroom and put my contacts in, the water's ready.

Anyone else dealing with having too much coffee? Seems everyone I know has caught wind of my love/hobby/habit & I have accrued insane quantities of glorious beans. Getting through it all has become quite a chore & will likely induce a heart attack, if I try to finish it all while it's fresh

Some people disagree, but I've found that you can extend freshness by freezing beans in a mason jar. I would only freeze them once, though

Considering buying the Wilfa Svart. Anybody have experience? Lot of Nordic roasters recommend it but the Amazon reviews have me nervous about durability. Might just buy with the extended warranty from Amazon and call it good.

We have a commercial Nespresso in our office that uses little pods. While not as good as my pour over, it’s leaps and bounds better than a Keurig and definitely drinkable. At my last job, I would go home for lunch in part to make a cup of coffee and avoid the Keurig.

Just a heads up - I had looked into this machine but I read multiple reports on the customer service being patchy for this product, esp. since it's a european company. It's cheap enough but there are other good brewers from Oxo, Bonavita, etc. which don't cost as much as a Technivorm or Ratio but are still pretty solid.

Technivorm used to be the only game in town for drip machines but now there's at least three and it sounds like a couple more based on research.

How many shots a day? Or at a time? What's your budget? A single boiler machine should be sufficient honestly if you don't do any milk work.

Never had a machine so I’m limited currently to 5 each morning on my commute, but I’m moving and am done paying for it and like the idea of doing it myself and trying different beans and maybe venturing out a bit. I would likely use it a few times a day on weekends and mainly just mornings during the week. BFF would probably learn the milk side if we had it so I’m not opposed to that.

Do you have a grinder? If you don't have a grinder, I'd budget for a good grinder like a Baratza Vario (if you also make drip / aeropress / pourover) or Baratza Sette / Rancilio Rocky and go with something like Breville Infuser. Both companies sell refurb units on their own site as well as eBay - another avenue is looking on craigslist in case you see anything good.

A lot of people would say Gaggia go start out with but their build quality is a piece of shit and you need to add PIDs so the $$$ goes up. If you can afford the Rancilio Silvia, maybe look into it.

I have a Breville Infuser that I'm rather happy with & make 4-6 shots a day with some milk steaming every now and then.
