The more I see them play the more I think Brey needs to continue what I think he’s leading toward and blow up his “traditional” and continue to take advantage of his new found talent and just have the young kids play loose. You almost see the excitement in the offense when Durham is on the floor.

The play by the vets in the final 4 minutes was atrocious. Rex looked like Urban on those free throws stress wise. TJ looked like a great second guy trying to be a number one and failed.

couldn't agree more. i hate to say "forget this season and let the young guys go" but that's the case, but also this team is much better when he lets the underclassmen run the show.

i never thought it would come to this, but i cannot wait for rex to get out of here. fuck he is infuriating to watch down the stretch

He just bogs down the offense. Doesn’t move the ball well, tries to do too much when he is just flat-out terrible

It would be a tough decision by Brey to bench him, but it needs to be done

For anyone else attending the game, any suggestions on where I should be looking for tickets? Have been checking ticketmaster, stubhub and seat geek. Was about to take the dive and just pick two seats, but thought I'd ask here before purchasing.

Any info or advice would be appreciated.

Kiffin made 1.4 his final season, and Locksley made 1.2 this year. We’d have zero issue going over 1.5 to get the right guy. We’re all hoping it’ll be a combination of Enos and Gattis, so we’ll see.

Renfrow is still living off a pick play TD to win the title in 16. He was a complete non-factor in our game last year, and hasn’t done much of anything this year, though Higgins/Rodgers/Ross certainly have something to do with that.

from Coach D on chip long

I'm positive that there will be rumors that creep up about Chip Long to Alabama will creep up unless Saban decides to just promote Dan Enos and/or Josh Gattis into the role. So I want to put this out right now so it's already out there and I don't have to answer a million future questions about it.

According to a source of mine Chip Long is very happy at Notre Dame right now, so much so that he even refused to talk to multiple schools about their head coaching positions. I've also been told Long is very, very excited about the future of the offense and thinks the 2019 group can be elite. Thinks most of the skill players will be back and he's fired up about the 2019 OL's potential and talent.

I know this won't stop the rumors, but I would be SHOCKED if Chip Long was coaching anywhere but Notre Dame in 2019. If i hear otherwise I will be certain to say so on the board.

    Sinclair's recruiting rundown

    Sinclair’s Mid-Week Recruiting Rundown: Top 10 2020 Prospects
VIP ByKEVIN SINCLAIR 4 hours ago
    11

    (Photo: Matt Cashore, 247Sports)

On Tuesday, it was requested in the Four Horsemen Lounge that we provide a look into which 2020 prospects are most likely to end up at Notre Dame.

With the 2019 class coming to a close and the Irish staff on the road, there’s been several 2020 offers extended, in-school visits had, and interest brewing as a result of Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff bid.

Now, we’re 14 months away from 2020 National Signing Day. To put into perspective how loose these predictions are: on this day last year, Notre Dame extended an offer to Andrew Kristofic (who committed seven months ago) and had yet to offer 12 of its current 21 commitments.

Keep in mind this is only the 10 prospects I feel Notre Dame has the best shot at landing in the 2020 class as of today (in no particular order).

    (1) A.J. HENNING

In the spring, Notre Dame appeared to be the clear frontrunner for A.J. Henning – an athlete who could provide the Irish with excellent speed and playmaking ability at wide receiver, in the slot, at running back, as a return specialist, or a combination of these roles.

On May 17, the Top 50 prospect picked up an Ohio State offer which sources informed Irish Illustrated would be a major player and at the very least, a program that had at pulled even with the Irish in his early recruitment.

After showing truly elite speed as a sophomore, a hip flexor injury forced Henning out of action in the first handful of Lincoln Way-East matchups this fall, and when he returned, his injury appeared to still be lingering.

Mind you, Henning was still his electric self – executing big-gains, making defenders miss, and putting points on the board.

However, his injury struggles caused some programs to slow their pursuit, but Notre Dame is not in that group. Several Irish coaches have been recruiting Henning at a top-priority level.

In the end, I believe Notre Dame’s consistent approach, recent success, and the growing bond between Henning and quarterback commit Drew Pyne will add up to a Notre Dame pledge.

    (2) RYLIE MILLS

Will he play strong-side end, or will he grow into a three-technique? After all, as a junior, he’s already 6-foot-5, 280-pounds.

This is the question that comes up often when it comes to Top 150 Illinois prospect Rylie Mills. Although his position fit matters, it shouldn’t play a factor in Notre Dame’s pursuit for his pledge.

Mills is an extraordinary talent, the type of big-bodied, exceptionally strong defensive lineman which doesn’t pop up in such close proximity to South Bend often – at least, the types of athlete who fits and has interest in Notre Dame.

The last time I spoke with Mills, he made it clear that from Mike Elston to Tom Rees to Brian Kelly, he felt Notre Dame had been doing a great job of recruiting him.

Mills was in South Bend for the home opener victory over Michigan, has paid close attention to Khalid Kareem, Julian Okwara, and the Irish defensive line this fall – how they go about their business – and is outspoken about his admiration for the Notre Dame defensive front.

There are unwritten plans to visit additional schools in the coming months as well as a top list unveiling. But as things stand today, it’s difficult to see Mills ending up elsewhere.

    (3) KEVIN PYNE

First, there were recent questions regarding Kevin Pyne’s class and whether he’d reclassify as a 2019 prospect. To be clear, the towering tackle will be an early enrolment 2020 class athlete.

Second, the first connection that comes to mind with this recruitment is the family link between Drew Pyne and the 6-foot-7, 275-pound prospect out of Milford, Massachusetts. Certainly, this is a big positive and factor that can’t be ignored.

Additionally, when it comes to recruiting top offensive line talent, we’re talking about the one position group in which Notre Dame has the strongest argument.

In his first year as the offensive line coach, Jeff Quinn proved he can recruit with the big boys – loading up on top-of-the-board talent.

Heading into the 2020 class, there’s no reason to believe that Quinn won’t have a similar performance and it could begin with Kevin Pyne.

    (4) CODY SIMON

Prior to the fall, many wondered if Cody Simon would follow in his brother’s footsteps as a big-time playmaker at the linebacker position.

As a junior, he provided an answer while logging 76 tackles, nine-and-a-half tackles for loss, three-and-a-half sacks, two interceptions (one returned 80-yards for a touchdown), two pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble.

Posting those kinds of numbers in the New Jersey Non-Public Group 4 as an underclassman is a big statement. And if you ask staff at St. Peter’s Prep, they’ll tell you this young linebacker is only getting started.

Now, (assuming the current commits sign) it’s difficult to see Notre Dame signing many linebackers in the 2020 class after adding eight at the position over the last two classes. At the same time, it may be even more difficult to see Simon end up anywhere but South Bend.

    (5) JORDAN JOHNSON

One of the highest-upside wide receivers in the class, Jordan Johnson has an exciting combination of elite deep-threat ability and electric playmaking talent with the ball in his hands.

In a recent conversation with Johnson, the DeSmet star named Florida, Missouri, Notre Dame, and Ohio State as the programs recruiting him with the most consistency and interest.

Certainly, Notre Dame has had the most on-field success of the four this fall. And when Johnson visited Notre Dame, it was clear that the Top 50 talent and his mother were thoroughly impressed with the football program, academics, and coaching staff.

Johnson is taking his time and could very well see plenty of offers roll in. But as of now, I like the Irish for his pledge. He’s a great fit for the program and the University while Notre Dame’s young offensive line and quarterback groups are sure to be an easy sell.

Johnson hopes to make a commitment prior to his senior season.

    (6) AIDAN KEANAAINA

When it comes to recruiting 2020 defensive tackle talent, Aidan Keanaaina feels like the perfect prospect.

He’s an excellent student, comes from a solid private school, and shows the type of character that would fit extremely well at Notre Dame.

The four-star Colorado recruit visited Notre Dame both before and during the season, gushing about those trips to Irish Illustrated. He’s also taken in several additional visits to programs across the country. Still, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better match than Keanaaina and the Fighting Irish.

Ohio State could be a challenger in this recruitment as well as others. However, Notre Dame seems like a fairly comfortable prediction as things stand today.

    (7) JALEN KIMBER

Before Jalen Kimber had earned his first offer, he made it clear to Irish Illustrated that Notre Dame would be a substantial offer if it were to surface.

Since, the Texas speedster has loaded up on impressive offers, including TCU, Texas A&M, Penn State, Oklahoma State and as of yesterday, Notre Dame.

With family roots in Chicago, a connection to Notre Dame commit Kyle Hamilton, and a strong academic profile, it appears the Irish coaching staff could successfully recruit this Mansfield Timberview standout.

    (8) JALEN LOGAN-REDDING

It still surprises me that Jalen Logan-Redding hasn’t seen more substantial offers come his way. But with the release of his junior season film recently, I expect more programs to catch on to this promising talent soon.

Close to 6-foot-5 and 235-pounds with excellent length and a frame that could accommodate plenty of quality muscle, Logan-Redding impressed the Irish coaching staff at its linemen camp in the summer and left campus with an offer.

When he returned to South Bend for the Florida State game, he sat down with Mike Elston and Brian Kelly for serious talks about his future and what he’d gain at Notre Dame through the football program and the classroom.

Without a timeframe mapped out, it’s difficult to predict exactly how his recruitment will play out. At the same time, even though he hasn’t named a leader, it sure seems like Notre Dame is in the driver’s seat.

    (9) ENZO JENNINGS

One of my favorite defensive backs in the 2020 class, Enzo Jennings has favorable length and range while boasting smooth, effective athleticism at both cornerback and safety.

It’s the back end of the defense where the Irish are targeting Jennings, who had legitimate interest in Notre Dame months before picking up an offer on Nov. 10.

Although multiple SEC programs have offered along with Clemson and a few top Big Ten programs, Jennings has been transparent in his strong interest in what Notre Dame offers.

If the Irish can maintain that interest, a commitment would be no surprise.

    (10) BRAIDEN MCGREGOR

While national programs continue catching on to the unique talent that Braiden McGregor is, Notre Dame’s recruitment of the Michigan product appears to be elevating in difficulty.

Recently, Alabama offered McGregor at the tight end position. And with Ohio State and his in-state Michigan Wolverines applying pressure, Notre Dame could face a dogfight for the 6-foot-5 ½, 250-pound edge-rusher down the stretch.

Still, coach Elston did an excellent job of creating interest early while luring McGregor to multiple visits (including his trip during an important win over Michigan).

On top of the interest is a serious need for strong-side defensive ends in the 2020 class, and subsequent opportunity to play as a freshman.

Right now, I still like the Irish.

    HONORABLE MENTIONS
    Offense

There are a handful of recruits who I feel Notre Dame has a good shot at landing but I’m not ready to predict just yet. I’ll list three on each side of the ball that I’m keeping a close eye on.

A pair of wide receivers have shown serious interest in the Irish, starting with Daniel Jackson.

As a sophomore, Jackson collected over 1,200 yards receiving before posting one of the best SPARQ scores at The Opening Regional in Dallas. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending knee injury early in his junior season, a really tough blow.

Notre Dame is the clear leader for his pledge. So, keep an eye on this capable wide receiver down the stretch.

Top 100 wide out Jalen McMillan is the other – a big-play wide receiver with strong interest in Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Washington among others. He plans to visit the Irish this spring and although there will be tough competition, the Irish appear to have a real shot.

    11COMMENTS
In what would possibly be the most talented overall get for the Irish in the 2020 class, elite guard Andrew Raym has serious interest in the Irish and will visit early in 2019. Jeff Quinn is recruiting the Oklahoma star heavily and should keep the Irish in the mix despite his top-shelf offer list.

    Defense

With strong-side defensive end talent being as crucial as it is to the 2020 class, Notre Dame is recruiting several prospects at that position, including California four-star Xavier Carlton.

Like Keanaaina, Carlton is another great fit for the program from the West. If it weren’t for a playoff run, the 6-foot-7 edge rusher would have visited Notre Dame for a game this fall. But expect the Modesta standout to make it to campus sometime soon.

At linebacker, Kalel Mullings is a prime candidate for ND, an athlete in which Clark Lea has shown a great deal of interest in.

Boston College, Michigan, and others will be big players for his pledge. But don’t count out the Irish.

It will be a tough pull from the West, but Top 100 cornerback Clark Phillips III was absolutely ecstatic when he received an offer from the Irish and that excitement continued as Notre Dame built an undefeated run.

Like many names in this list, the La Habra star plans to visit Notre Dame this spring. Until then, it’s tough to gauge Notre Dame’s odds. But real interest is building and visit plans will be made.
