not sure what to make of this hit from last night. He doesn't lead with the shoulder or elbow, but IMO he clearly jumps into the hit and catches Bjugstad squarely in the face with his back/ass?

For me its a penalty but no supplemental discipline. He hits his face but I'm not sure its the principle point of contact.

Back first, feet on the ice until after contact is made, his numbers are what hit him in the face. Without seeing their paths before the hit I say no supplemental discipline

Can someone catch me up to speed on what the experts seem to think with regards to the cap the next few seasons? Are we expecting larger than normal increases? Compliance buyouts at some point? Lightning in particular have a cap situation that I don’t really see how it works moving forward. We usually make smart decisions which makes me think something could be brewing like that.

Cap going up means revenues are coming in...considering our dollar is dragging down revenues that’s a real positive.
Teams must be banking on a buyout. Hope they don’t have one as it’s cap circumvention.

There's going to be a lockout next year, so its hard to guess at what the cap situation is going to be

owners get a compliance buyout or two every CBA. No reason for the players to fight it. Allows players to double dip and get paid twice.

It also allows bigger clubs to walk away from their financial mistakes. Which isn’t a level playing field in a cap world.

"level playing fields" is just a bunch of bullshit that allows owners to control cost anyway.

Barzal with a better shot is probably the closest comparison i can make imo. Think the way that McDavid can take the puck from behind the net all the way to the opposing slot, straight down the middle of the ice- by just being a better skater than everyone else. That's the kind of game he has, but obviously a notch or so below McDavid in most/all attributes.

Absolutely. In the Crosby/Tavares/McDavid/Matthews tier. Above the likes of Hall/RNH/Yakupov/MacKinnon/Eichel/Hischier. Already heavier than Patrick Kane.

You are talking about just before the draft and being the top guy? I agree, he is a lock

Jack Hughes, auston matthews and John Tavares are not in the same tier as mcdavid and Crosby. If we are trying to project his career, I think he will be a Patrick Kane type of guy as far as how he plays and production. Maybe a higher ceiling by a hair.

If you were to put the past 10 forward #1 picks into 2 tiers he's certainly closer to the McDavid tier than the RNH one.

Yes, but two tier is not enough when you have rnh and mackinnon in the same tier...unless you are just talking about how a sure bet these players were/are to be picked number one.

Than I completely agree, Hughes is number one without question

    Kane

baseball has had 8 different champs the last 12 years and another 8 unique teams have made the world series and lost. that’s half the league. teams competing doesn’t seem like a problem to me.

2/3 have no shot and are out of a race by July. More teams are racing to the bottom to rebuild and compete for a top draft pick than willing to compete with LA, Boston or the Yankees and their payrolls.

Also any interest in Craig Anderson? Has one more year on his ticket after this year. Would allow you to keep Hart in the A for some time.

    1. what you’re saying isn’t really true
    2. fewer teams compete every year than hockey because fewer teams make the playoffs. it has nothing to do with payroll. Oakland was last in payroll and won 97 games. Tampa was second to last and won 90. Milwaukee was in the bottom 10 and won 96. this is just a bullshit narrative you’re pushing.

Baseball is kind of a bad comparison anyway, just due to the nature of the game and teams/rosters. Star/the most expensive players have less influence on a team than in any other team sport, (You don't really get any extra PT; there's no way to build a team around someone other than to put them in the middle of the lineup) and the ~15th best players have a lot of value. MLB clubs can build contenders with stocking deep farm systems and very small percentage of "elite" players. In the NHL if you aren't paying at least a couple guys close to top dollar you basically aren't competing.

I like hockey more because my team just won a title and my baseball team just had one of the worst seasons in history and gave Chris Davis $161 million

and even big markets like New York get fucked over by them in hockey while it does little to nothing to the Yankees if they give out an awful contract

well money does increase the margin of error, but it doesn’t guarantee anything and the lack of a cap doesn’t stop anyone from being able to compete.

    https://www.google.ca/amp/s/project...roll-question-can-a-team-simply-buy-wins/amp/

Since 1998, only three teams have simultaneously ranked in the bottom half of Opening Day payroll rankings and won the World Series. The 2003 Florida Marlins, 2015 Kansas City Royals, and 2017 Astros began the year ranked 25th, 16th, and 18th respectively, while every other winner in that span was 15th or higher, including seven squads in the top five and three with the number one spot.
On an even simpler scale, regular season win totals are more easily predicted by where a team begins the year in terms of payroll.

    My narrative?
