Isn’t Stagger Lee a CLT Guy? That would explain why he thinks DFW Tex-mex is really good. There isn’t shit here.
Stagger Lee or anyone with insight Work is wanting me to move to Texas. Office is in Frisco right off the Dallas North Tollway. If I move, I don't think I want to go North of Frisco thinking rather be down near/in Plano. Just recently had 1st kid and everywhere says area is great for young families. I want to move regardless so if it's not Texas I'll likely need to find a new job. Reason I don't want to do that is my company is blowing up and is about as stable as a job as I could get (first job out of college been with them for 5 years) and probably paying me more than anywhere else would. I've been to the area numerous times for work but will be going in 2 weeks with my wife to really check it out with the intention of possibly moving there.
Real estate is really exploding in that area with Toyota and several other companies moving in. If you want to spend the money Plano is as good as any other established suburb that direction, it's just a bit crowded for me. If you want your money to go a little farther though then look at places like Fairview, Murphy, even Wylie if you further out. Another burgeoning suburb is Prosper which holds the distinction of being home to notable humans Deion Sanders and Zack Zedalis (and more importantly Mrs. Zack Zedalis).
If you want stuff to do during the day, you can take a cab to the Stockyards & wander around. If you want watering holes within walking distance that have good patios, there’s a Flying Saucer around the corner from you and Reata is pretty close as well (great rooftop bar there)...the Sundance Square plaza or the Water Gardens are good if you want to sit somewhere & relax. The zoo here is pretty great too if you’re into that kind of thing. Good steakhouses downtown are Del Frisco’s, Ruth’s Chris, Bob’s...other good places downtown are Waters, Reata, Capital Grille, Grace, Del Frisco’s Grille, Daddy Jack’s, and Taco Diner.
Yes. To be fair to me, Charlotte has absolutely no good Tex-Mex options. I mean they opened a Chuy's in South Park a couple years ago, and Charlotte and are going nuts over it (at least when I was last there they were). Look, I have family all over Texas, and they are all quick to tell me Dallas Tex-Mex is shit. But having been to all the hole-in-the-wall joints they present to me as the GOAT, I'm pretty convinced they just don't like dfw options because they see anything out of dallas as pretentious (a sentiment I totally understand). I get it - there's nothing hip about eating $17 enchiladas in Highland Park or Uptown Dallas
Yeah having lived in Houston and then moving back home to Charlotte I realized how much I’m going to miss my go-to hole in the wall places and then even just the steady chain restaurants that are way better than anything here
My wife and I both work in Addison along the Tollway. That's probably 15 miles or so south of frisco. We recently moved up to the Preston hollow area, a couple miles south of 635 to cut down the commute (had lived in Lakewood). We wanted to still be in Dallas -- I suppose because we thought we were holding onto our youth by not surrendering to the suburbs. I always say I would never live in Plano, frisco, Allen, Addison, etc. and make fun of them -- but then again, I never go to those areas (other to go to my office in Addison), so I really have no basis for saying that. The truth is all those areas are booming and have tons of young people. I'm sure you could find a great place to live up there. Of those options, I've heard the best things about Allen. If you want to live in dallas city limits, you're going to have limited options unless you want a very long commute or have a lot of money to spend. The north Dallas neighborhoods south of 635 are generally very pricy (we bought an old house and renovated), and I'd prefer living in the abovementioned suburbs over any Dallas neighborhood north of 635. I'm on my phone and kind of rambling here. Feel free to PM or post questions in this thread. I'll do a better job answering when I get to a computer. Happy to meet up for drinks, lunch, coffee, etc next time you're in town
My favorite spot was Azteca on Woodlawn. My parents came from Texas and (naturally) were Tex-mex snobs. Azteca was the only place my dad would go. Plus, every time we went, it was packed with genuine Mexicans, so I always assumed it was the best in town
There’s a super hole in the wall called Miguel’s that was my go to before I moved. It’s on the Little Rock exit of 85
I'll introduce you to my boy Teon from grade school. He was from the Little Rock apartments and slang a solid bag of mids back in the day. At least you'll have that going for you if the food's no good
Went to Smithy for a work dinner last night. Cocktails were impressive but I think the food fell short of expectations. There was a big group of us and our waiter convinced all but like 4 of us to get the salmon entree which sounded good but didn't seem to be much of a hit. Crab nacho appetizer was meh. I loved my Luke's Hot Chicken but that peri peri spice is no joke. It was right at the threshold of being too hot, and the heartburn I had at 3am was something. Anyone else been there yet? Ball Gag Giorgio Line 4 guy Stagger Lee MrPibb I think all of you are around the Knox-Henderson area?
I work like 10 minutes from that area (like 2 miles) in Plano off the DNT. AMA. I love that area and as BayouMafia explained, that area is blowing up. With the Star right up the road, and Frisco blowing up, Plano is crowded as fuck. Took me 30 minutes to get the 8.4 miles home. Legacy West is pretty awesome. Dallas gets a lot of shit, but its an easy flight to the beach (Mexico/Belize etc) and its a lower cost of living. Austin is right down the road, and the people are fairly personable and friendly. I love it here.
Oh and if you are looking for a guys spot to day drink, check out the instagram for a bar called Tight Ends. Yes thats exactly what it means. Its right at 121 and the DNT, so it will be right in that area. Fuck it, for the lazy... Spoiler
Yeah. Live walking distance to knox/henderson. Haven't been to Smithy. still mourning loss of victor tangos. Up on Knox is great.
funny story - every 2 years my company has a "World Cup" soccer tournament at our corporate headquarters in Frankfurt. Each country/region fields a team and as you can imagine the US team usually gets dominated. Our regional COO is English and our RCFO is Dutch, so this year they're committed to fielding a competitive team. Our waiter at Smithy mentioned no less than 6 times that he spent the past 5 years playing professional soccer in Italy and now at SMU in grad school. Well the joke is made that we should hire him at an intern so he can play in this tournament in June. Turns out it wasn't a joke - he starts Monday. He's been hired as a marketing intern solely so he can play in the this tournament in Germany I looked him up figuring if he had been on the reserve team of some Serie A power like he claims there would be some press about him or he'd appear on some USMNT prospect lists or something and nothing. Only thing I can find is an article or two regarding fucking Centenary College in which he's mentioned because he played there. Good on him though for getting a free trip to Europe out of us.
Hinge date dragged me to smithy a few weeks ago right after it opened. Dbag waiter (which was probably that guy ^) played the “don’t order, I know what you want” card. The drinks were actually good but never talked to the date again #tweet
his opener for bringing up the soccer career was, "our niçoise is really good. I just spent the last 5 years in Europe playing professional soccer so I know a good niçoise."
Went to the Byron Nelson today at Trinity Forrest & won’t go back again. If we hadn’t had suite tix it would of been absolutely miserable. So damn hot & no shade anywhere on the course.
I don't know about best but my favorite is 20 Feet. Small place, small menu, byob. The lobster roll is fucking amazing and everything else they do is well above average.
A group of my buddies came to town to go, and said the same thing. They said they couldn’t even Uber close to the event (not that it was a miserable walk from across the street) but apparently they were being cunty about drop off points.
I am sure the logistics of the tournament will get better being this is the 1st year at that venue but as far as the weather, it sucks. It was the focus of my crying in the RTT yesterday.
Can confirm new Nelson location sucks. Uber lot was a joke. No shade anywhere. Still tons of talent out and about, but I’ll always be partial to Four Seasons.
Paging Dallas bros My sister is in town (Frisco) and it's her 21st this weekend. Thinking we go into Dallas but I've never actually been out in Dallas so looking for the best area to take her. I was thinking Deep Ellum? Not into clubs would be the only thing.
My advice may differ based on the answer to one clarifying question...is this the ass licking thread?
