yeah the big guitar solo part is the stuff that i like the winding guitar solo reminds me of like Rhapsody in a good way
i'm not going to pretend to speak for them they're all in their 30s like me. they like that style. it's not like i'm going to tell them that death metal is so much better. they are playing at the Hawthorne in January (I think?) if you're bored. I'll buy you a drink or five.
Yeah, but I have zero tolerance for this style of whateveritismusic. I'd actually rather listen to that Rivers Of Nihil band.
Heavy Mental Patch-Shop.com in Lithuania just sent me a bunch of free patches for messing up my last order (shorted me one patch, kinda my fault for ordering two of the same damn patch). They also sent me a 30% off total order coupon code if you want it (97351).
Rivers of Nihil is more like progressive death metal, though. i don't really want to argue about my friend's band. they are what they are.
i mean, if they're not very good, then say that. it's not very useful to compare a local band with limited funds to a band like Rivers of Nihil
My apologies, I thought I was being clear on that. I can say that they're better than the metal/emocore band one of my employees was in about 3 or 4 years ago.
I have no attachment to their style. Frankly I think they could play somewhere in the UADA-verse, but I doubt they will.
I mean in terms of their playing. I think they could. Will they? 90% no? I also don't want to act like I know where they are going in terms of their sound
Is Chapel of Disease your #1 for this year? Because that combo of death metal and prog rock is about as good as it's going to get (outside of an Opeth album, obviously )
Most likely, I can't currently think of anything else I liked better this year. I had high hopes for new Feral crushing but I listened to it tonight and while it's good it's not great. You turn your angrymetalguy list in yet?
In terms of what I listened to the most, it's the Black Fast album. I'm not sure if it's brilliant or mediocre. Terms of Surrender is one of the great thrash albums I've ever heard. IMO it's one of the great metal albums of the past 10 or 20 years. And then they wrote this album where it's like 90% tremolo picking and the hooks are basically the rare thrash riffs. It's just this dense wall of sound for like 40 minutes. Maybe it will look brilliant in 5-10 years? Maybe it will look bad. If more songs like this get made, I think we'll all be ok
Love Terms Of Surrender. I've been trying to push it onto my buddy for about three years. His favorite band is Slayer so...
Tell him that The Fall is a sample of the progressive metal album Slayer never made Actually I would love to have heard Slayer's attempt at prog metal in like 1989
Terms of Surrender is the type of album I'm going to be talking about in 10 years wondering why Black Fast broke up or whatever
That's about the only thing I could give my buddy credit for. He'd likely suck off every member of Slayer past and present except Kerry.
someone had to be first. unfortunately, kerry king was one of those people. i still like slayer, though i love the haunting the chapel ep to this day, and how low-budget it sounds
I like plenty of Slayer, I just hate discussing it with him because he's a bit too into it. Plus he takes random shots at my favorite bands so I take plenty back at Slayer.
it shouldn't be too hard to hit back they literally wrote a song with the lyrics "GOD HATES US ALL" as the chorus Disciple actually had a great riff fwiw
Sodomize my cross for it now marks your existence. Dismissal of lucivity, consume my body and blood. Supplicate for death, obscurity condemns the structure. Spectral abominations, the gathering of souls.
thanks for being diplomatic about that. i had been that night. i know what they are. they're still my friends though
Do you really hate Kyuss? Was there anyone else doing that sort of riffing in 1997 or whatever? At least among rock people
Yes I hate them. Love stoner rock but can't stand Kyuss. I'm not saying they weren't influential, they started well before 97.
Not that anyone needs another reason to dislike Arch Enemy. I didn't know the previous singer is now their manager.
You need to check on Roy, his team shit the bed today. I don't understand your fascination with synthwave.
I like the sound of synthesizers and that gated reverb drum machine sound. Plus it sits right on the edge of being totally over the top and ridiculous like a lot of metal does. It's great driving music, too. I was pretty into trance but got turned off from electronic music around when dubstep took off and the genre seemed to become a lot more commercialized and cookie cutter compared to when I was streaming di.fm at 192kbps in 2005 or whatever.
