For a smoke screen if nothing else. Probably get Andy Reid because he knows Baker is better than Mahomes
i don't know much about gase, but i'm not really sure what miami expected him to do when the charred remains of ryan tannehill was his best option at quarterback.
We’ve got a winning coaching staff in place now So let’s fire all of them and bring in Adam Gase or some no-name coordinator
players hate his guts. everyone over the last 2-3 years just wants the fuck out of Miami. He had control of the 53-man and would just trade dudes if he didn't like them (Ajayi, tried to trade Parker, etc). Jarvis hates his guts, so I fail to see how he could just walk into Browns franchise and get things up and going. On top of that, he had control of 53 man in Miami, how is he gonna deal with not having control in CLE? That scares me.
That's fair. I just know he was well regarded a few years ago and seemed to pretty much meet (reasonable) expectations on the field.
I don't know how I feel about McCarthy. It'd be a pretty uninspiring hire, but I also think coaching Rodgers is probably a lot like coaching LeBron. I'm not sure how many of the offensive issues they had can be directly attributed to him. Obviously Rodgers's health in recent seasons hasn't helped. I think he's probably got the highest floor of any candidate. Retain Kitchens to continue working with Mayfield. There are certainly worse ways for this coaching search to go. But I'd prefer an up-and-coming offensive guy for obvious reasons
i mean he's basically had turds for QBs, but still found a way to win games. They have been pretty respectable on the field for such a shitty roster. but he also managed that roster, so how much of that is on him? i dunno. my biggest beef with him is just the sheer number of players that hate his guts. Its not just this year, or last. It stretches back a while.
The Browns have interviews scheduled through Saturday and likely will have an interview on Sunday, then interviews on Monday and Tuesday ---- Sunday just hasn't scheduled out yet
Spoiler JaredKMueller 1930 posts 119 minutes agoVIP After a few days have passed to allow me to check in with a variety of folks, here are a few thoughts/feelings/notes from folks around the league and the team on the Browns coaching search: 1) Mike McCarthy will be a "finalist" for the job. 2) Freddie Kitchens is likely to be a "finalist" 3) Dorsey is hoping to find a third "finalist" and hopes to be blown away. 4) Many are surprised/shocked Chiefs ST Coordinator Dave Toub has not been noted as having an interview request, in Cleveland and around the league. 5) Ownership is still a very big concern for coaches and agents despite the public show that Dorsey is running the show. 6) If McDaniels gets an interview it is a sign that the Haslams are pushing their weight around. 7) Dorsey feels like the job opening is the best in the league and is casting a wide net both to find the best coach but also to pick the brains of folks who would love to coach Baker and Company. 8) Dorsey is aware that if he doesn't hire Kitchens as the HC the Browns will lose him in a year or less. 9) "Offensive Guy" Vs. "Defensive Guy" isn't as important as "best guy" for the Browns in this search. 10) As noted in the previous RC update, Gregg Williams has long been considered "out" of the running in Cleveland but has raised his stock some around the league and should land on his feet as a DC for a young HC.
Spoiler Sharing a piece of information told to one of our Insiders through a connection to former Browns players: "He is hearing a lot of buzz around Eberflus. The idea is bringing him in to run the team and keeping Freddie to run the offense." This builds off Tony Pauline's post on 12/31 in which he mentioned people in the organization being excited about Eberflus: https://247sports.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/Board/106133/Contents/Head-Coaching-Rumors-Pt-2-127114669/
This is where I'm at. If they make him OC, another team will hire him away in a year. Him and Baker have something going and it would suck to lose it.
"He is hearing a lot of buzz around Eberflus. The idea is bringing him in to run the team and keeping Freddie to run the offense." 8) Dorsey is aware that if he doesn't hire Kitchens as the HC the Browns will lose him in a year or less. Those two things don't jive...
I'm still saying let's not fuck with what is working. It feels a little like we are getting a little full of ourselves. If we think we lose Kitchens in a year, and that's what we are attributing the offensive success the last half of the year, kinda seems like a no-brainer. Other than the fact that he's never been a HC. On the other hand, I think I do agree that it might be the best coaching job available right now. It should be attracting major interest from the best coaches out there.
I get a bad feeling it’s going to be McCarthy. Absolutely hate it, but I think Dorsey has earned the right to trust his vision for the team...so I will.
I've been of the mindset that we need to hire defensive minded HC, keep Freddy as OC and let him focus on play calling and developing baker. With that said, someone brought up a great point that if you do that, and someone poaches Freddy as a HC in next few years, you suddenly step back, or at least sideways on O. I'm toen on which is best solution. Have to trust in Dorsey. Almost all of his decisions have been spot on
Spoiler BarryMcBride 36864 posts 98 minutes agoVIP Just a reminder from the OBR webdork that, per whispers in my ear, that when Bill Parcells speaks, Jimmy Haslam listens very closely. That is all.
This is why we can’t have nice things... Spoiler Tony Pauline 626 posts 35 minutes agoVIP I hope to add a few more posts over the weekend- but can't promise anything. The latest i am hearing is there are two separate factions in the Browns front office as per the coaching search; it's Haslam/DePodesta on one side and Dorsey/Wolf on the other end. Purely speculative on my part but reports of Haslam reaching out to Parcells has not done any favors to bring the sides together.. There was no implication that there is a war going on, just people lining up with each other. The person I spoke with believes Dorsey will still get his way and Haslam will come aboard with Dorsey's choice- though this source is not very high and does not think much of Haslam when it comes to the matters of football. Spoiler It’s amazing how many smart business people go completely fucking stupid when they own a sports team. Let the football people make football decisions you billionaire cock sucker
We're going to fuck this up aren't we? Lose Kitchens. Hire McCarthy. Promote Greggggg's son to full-time DC. Please prove me wrong Browns.
SIAP but this article didn't ease my anxiety at all about McCarthy: https://sports.yahoo.com/marcedes-l...mike-mccarthy-green-bay-season-031440680.html
I don't understand why Arians isn't even on the radar? He would likely keep Kitchens, coach a few years, then we could promote Kitchens to HC if all goes well.
