The nfl is so odd. They spend billions on player performance, scouting, track everything, but just recycle names in certain coaching spots. Mike Munchak will likely get two HC interviews. All the cool shit that the chiefs, rams, saints, etc are doing on offense and we are looking at Bevell and Koetter.
Dont let the money fool you. These fools are drunk. Jake Allen is going 1st round and Mike Mayock is a GM.
These fuckers bilk cities for billions, and print money and Mike Mayock gets a job that is more rare than a fn US Senator Only in America
Had the same thought recently. Billions of dollars in play, less than 100 “big” jobs between HC and OC/DC, yet the same guys keep getting fired and rehired. Why? I’d rather us take a shot at finding the next McVay or Shanahan than just recycling some old-school guy.
This is bad. This is going to be a bad time. Can we get rid of Beasley, Trufant, Alford, Freeman, the entire OL save Mack(maybe even Mack), the other LSU LB... FWIW I'm still livid we didn't take the trade offered for Vic. smdfh Re-sign Grady and Coleman. I assume we will play the young DB's a lot. Sign big name pass rusher. Draft OL, DL and edge players.
The details weren't provided, but it was reported that we turned down an offer for him. It really doesn't matter what we were getting in return
What did we turn down for Vic? I never want to pay a RB again. Keep rookies drafted round 3 or later and bargain basement vets. If Coleman wants more than 5 mm a year let him walk. Put resources repeatedly into both lines of scrimmage
I for one hope we give up two years worth of picks to draft the next Julio and then overpay to keep him here like we did current Julio.
Looking around the league and what's working for successful teams, you're spot-on more often than not. Seattle is rolling with their 7th rounder, Kansas City had no problem replacing Hunt with their undrafted journeyman, etc. Looking here, there's like 6 of the top-25 paid RBs that are in the playoffs this year, and half of those 6 are probably replacement-level RBs: https://overthecap.com/position/running-back/ They shouldn't have paid Freeman, but the fact that they did should make it impossible to resign Coleman with the money he'd be looking for.
So we have the 2nd highest paid QB and the 4th highest paid RB No wonder our lines of scrimmage are dog shit with no depth
So the Broncos are blocking interview requests for Kubiak so I guess he's out of the equation. Of Mularkey, Koetter, and Bevell, I would take Bevell but hopefully those aren't the only choices.
The mental gymnastics being done to rationalize it are amazing. Only needing 3 good OL when our gm sucks at evaluating OL was one of the worst sports radio takes I've ever heard
I just don’t understand NFL and NCAAF hiring. Seems as if being a failed head coach is the most desirable element in the league. Failure as a HC is like a Harvard MBA.
Falcons are in position to be in a terrible spot in 2-3 years. We better either win now, or draft extremely well. If not, DQ probably gone in 2-3 years, then we’re looking for a HC to come in to a spot with a 36yr old QB making $30M per year, an undoubtedly overpaid RB, lack of talent in other spots and even Julio may start to be on the decline by then as well. Us being the Browns is not out of the question if some things go badly.
in the current CBA there are 2 ways to build a roster in the NFL. If you have a prodigy QB on a rookie deal (Mahomes) you spend a ton of money putting a lot of talent around him. If you have an expensive QB (Brees) it becomes imperative you hit on numerous draft picks (like the Saints did). Because we are stupid, we have a QB with the 2nd highest cap hit, and a RB with the 4th highest cap it.....in addition, we have done a terrible job finding value in the draft. Ridley is a great number 2 WR, Grady Jarrett was a steal, but Vic and Takk look like busts, we don't find or develop linemen on either side of the ball, and basically just kill me.
Every year a Super Bowl winning QB restructures their contract to help the team get back. Mean while our QB with no rings continues to cripple our ability to do so. Also fuck this OC hire I’m ready to turn on DQ.
Todd Monken (interviewing for the Jets' HC) has been the OC in Tampa since 2016. But Dirk was Tampa's OC in 2015 when they were #5 in the league in offense, and that was with 16 games of rookie Jameis Winston, so that's something.
Hey Dan, you don't have an OL, remember? Oh, and Freeman, the guy you paid at RB, is soft as fuck and doesn't play football anymore.
Honestly, every team out there from major college to the NFL oughta have a nerd on the sideline whose entire job is clock and game management. Dude doesn’t need to know an ounce of football, just have every statistic and odds ready to go at the drop of a hat. 4th and 1 at midfield in the 1st quarter of tie game “67% chance to win if we go for it, 43% if we don’t”. Too many HCs out there making in-game decisions that decrease their odds of winning.
I think it'd help if they knew some football or at least understood which matchups might work to our favor in a given situation
Yea I mean I doubt they’d get the job otherwise, I just mean to hammer the point that their entire job should be game/clock management from a statistical analysis standpoint, advising the head coach based on those numbers.
