Always been puzzled by The Storm Of The Light's Bane getting so much attention when The Somberlain was the better album.

Sometimes I feel like I should buy a record player just so I can have the proper recording of Serpent Temptation and not the CD version which had the vocals re-recorded and song titles/lyrics changed so they weren't so violent. Keep up the good work Nuclear Blast.

I've given up on the 2018 shit and have been non-stop old school DM all weekend. I may never listen to current death metal again.

Listened to the first track off the new Pissgrave. I don't get the hype this band gets, it's not good.

Popped in Sinister Cross The Styx, fucking classic. The sound was a bit loud for 1992, or so I thought. I have two original 90's pressings of the disc. I get my other copy out and sure as shit, those cunts at Nuclear Blast pulled the same bitch move on these Sinisters as they did the Dismember debut. As some of you may know the first pressing of Dismember "Like An Everflowing Stream" was pressed in 06/91. When they went to repress the album two months later in 08/91 they boosted the volume and brickwalled the shit out of it. All copies thereafter have the shit brickwalled sound. The original 06/91 versions are more sought after than any other press. You can find information about it on Discogs and elsewhere on the internet. The Sinister however, I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned before so I'm not sure anyone has noticed. Most normal people don't acquire more than one copy of a release. I may have to gobble up all the true first pressings before letting the rest of the world know NB fucked up again.

I find this type of history super interesting. Anything else like that regarding classic extreme metal albums?

Do you know what sound the Spotify version of Everflowing Stream has? The June 91 or the August 91?

I realize this may illicit an “I’m old and don’t know what Spotify is” type response, but just figured I’d try.

I now know what Spotify is but I don't have it myself. I'd be willing to bet it's the brickwalled version, the odds of them getting their hands on the original press sound is unlikely considering the internet is flooded with the 2nd press. A few years ago I downloaded every link I could of that album because I was curious and not one of them was the first press. Same goes for Impact "Take The Pain", there's not a single first press download out there, all are the remastered version. Even the links that show there aren't any bonus tracks is nothing more than the remaster with the extra tracks cut out. An original of the Impact can be had for around $1,500-$1,700, but there isn't any audio floating around on the internet from that first press.

There's a ton off oddball shit like that from the 90's. Take Necrophobic for example, the fantastic debut "The Nocturnal Silence" on Black Mark Production has two different track listings for the first pressings. They botched the German release, they were suppose to have "Shadows Of The Moon" as track #5 but accidentally put the song "Inborn Evil" on there instead which was from their demo. The Black Mark Production Canadian version has the correct track list. "Inborn Evil" wasn't suppose to be on the album at all.

I took a photo of the first press Dismember matrix so you have a better idea of what I'm talking about. The 06-91 means it was pressed in June of 1991, this is the first and only pressing with the correct mastering, how the band and producer wanted the album to sound. The pressing that was re-released two months later in the same factory will show 08-91 on that matrix line. That's the way you tell them apart, they are otherwise identical in regards to the inlays and disc.

If the label is responsible for the content then it would definitely be the latter version, NB tried to bury the original two months after release and even to this day with re-issues the brickwalled version is used.

Apparently the band Nails and MetalSucks are at war with each other. I'm not a Nails guys myself, sounds more up Roys alley, but this MS site is gonna eventually burn every bridge in the metal community. Seems like every other week I hear about them going at it with another band. Pesci may know more, I know he fancies MS.

I like some Dream Theater but have always preferred Psychotic Waltz if I'm in the mood for prog with questionable vocals. I used to write to guitarist Dan Rock in the early 90's, still have the letters he sent me somewhere upstairs. Anyone remember his side project Darkstar? They released two instrumental albums in the 90's. I always liked this song:

    Dan's in the middle.

And Psychotic Waltz if you haven't heard them.

Most likely the semi-popular NWOBHM band.

    Good track (1981)

So there was this Chicago based band in the 90's that released one full length album in 1994. It was pretty mediocre so nobody paid it any attention, I myself traded the cd within a week or two of picking it up, doubt I listened to it more than twice back then... Fast forward twenty years and the hipsters of the metal world decided to try to turn the band and album into an overlooked classic of technical thrash metal. This gets the obligatory compilation of demos and box set re-issue as well as the band back together. Now, 25 years later, they're ready to unleash a new album. Well hipster shitbags, reap what you sow.

I'd sooner let Joe_Pesci make me an entire Ghost compilation to listen to than hear that atrocity a second time.
