So in October, we got a diagnosis of a partially torn ACL in this one’s left knee. Just left the vet with a diagnosis of a completely torn ACL in her right knee. Merry Christmas.

    She’s a good girl though.

If you go through with the repair, it’s fairly routine (as I understand it at least... had one friend do it for their cocker spaniel.)

Essentially they just cut a bone wedge from the bottom side of the knee joint, spin it 180deg, then secure it with some screws. This takes the slope out of the knee joint and gives the dog some stability back (ACL stops the lower leg from sliding backwards.)

    She’s the best.

We’ll be pursuing the TPLO procedure, which I think is what you’re talking about. Have heard from a number of vets, including ours, that the guy in Tallahassee has an outstanding reputation.

The knee injuries were diagnosed by two different doctors at the practice. Both explained the injuries in the context of football and football players. As a guy who played football and tore his ACL, all I could do was stand there with a smirk on my face.

So my dog ran into a column with his left leg at about full speed last night. He yelped like he was dying for 5 minutes and it scared me to death. I moved his foot and leg all types of ways and he did cry or anything last night afterwards. He is limping today but is still running around and jumping etc. I'm.guessing his leg is just really sore from nailing the concrete.

give me the best recommendations for toys to keep a dog stimulated and entertained. she's starting chewing up household items while im gone at work. the house has been dog proofed as best possible.

right now we are trying kongs stuffed with treats which she either dissects in 2 minutes if packed too loosely, or gets bored with if she cant get the treats out. bought her a nylabone which she is showing minimal interest in, and several other various rope toys and plush toys. mostly she likes the chew on socks and electric cords though. am not going to leave her home alone with real bones due to choking risks, obviously, although she fucking loves real bones. any suggestions for how to keep a dog stimulated enough while gone so she doesnt terrorize the house?

Crate training if it's that bad. Sounds like something that won't be helped by distractions, probably separation anxiety

may be worth another try if she won't stop with the destruction. i did try crate training her initially and her tendency was to go full on hulk mode and almost destroy the crate trying to escape. this was a few months ago though, so i think it might go better now.

she's got quite a few emotional issues from her previous owner situation

It worked for my dog who would destroy stuff in the house. She likes the crate enough now to sleep in it even though they have full run of the house. What kind of dog and what kind of crate?

she actually loves her crate, sleeps there most of the time, and will even chill in there when im home. its when im gone that she goes haywire.

german shepherd and its a 42 or 44 inch wire crate..

Have you tried a blanket over the crate? Worked for Lily. She used to cry non-stop when she was in the crate and I wasn’t home. Put a blanket over the crate and she stopped.

Echo the crate. Also, we put a kong filled with peanut butter in the freezer overnight and give it to the puppy when we are gone.

Got my dogs back today after they've been boarded since last Wednesday. Was supposed to get them yesterday but there was a blizzard so I was stuck 3 hours away. So glad to have them back, they got home and just passed out immediately. Feel bad for leaving them for so lon.

Lurker here; have to chime in to help on this one. Wife and I had the same issue. Rescue dog, great dane we think but too small to be full dane (about 100lbs) so maybe a mix, or maybe full and just stunted growth, because she was found emaciated on the street with scars on her legs, looks like from fights. When we got her she would terrorize everything and when we put her in the crate she'd bark non-stop even for hours and hours while we were gone. Got her checked out and yep separation anxiety.

Solved it with...believe it or not...prozac. Actual prozac, the same drug humans take, just in dog-sized portions. It's called Fluoxetine. That combined with lots of love and pets and ROUTINE, my lord does this dog need routine to feel comfortable, settled her out and now we leave her alone outside of the crate all day while we're at work and she's great, no issues at all. Routine is key: similar timing, similar words, similar rhythm to her life with walks, potty breaks, food, etc. She's settled and has grown into the Dump-sized lapdog she always wishes she could be. Obviously don't do this without getting a professional's advice, but my recommendation is go see your local vet and see if the medicine will help.

So far so good on the christmas puppers. Killer temperament. Mouthy as hell and terrible on a leash but we'll get there. Kids went from over the moon to just wanting to play minecraft again, but that's not totally unexpected. It just means I got myself a puppy that I don't have to share as much.

Just started science diet for large breed puppies. Hoping for the best!

Our new addition, Burt Reynolds. So far he's been tremendous, aside from the expected attempts at marking throughout the house (we're now always walking with him when he's free walking through the house). And much like rulethirty , the novelty has worn off for the kids. Having a corgi was all my daughter talked about for two years; yesterday it was like pulling teeth to get her to go out and play with him in the 65-degree weather.

Rosie has been a good big sister so far, but has no desire to exert the effort to keep her new little brother entertained.

She’s the best, and a cancer survivor. My in-laws had to have her lower jaw partially removed as a result, but she has the same wonderful personality.
