I was driving during his speech last night and listening to it on NPR. Their analysts afterwards tripping over themselves to not call him an idiot was pretty funny. They had some DEA dude on there saying the amount of heroin that comes over the border through areas that could theoretically be cut off by a wall is basically a joke compared to how much comes through legal ports of entry in cars. They also had some Louisiana congressman named Clay Higgins on. What a fucking buckaroo. He said he had personally scouted the entire length of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Maybe if the Border Patrol didn't have to focus their efforts where the wall will be, they will be able to find more drugs at the legal ports of entry.
Yeah there are customs border patrol that do all the checks at entry points and border patrol agents that physically patrol the borders. So they aren’t missing stuff coming through customs because they have those agents out patrolling the border as that’s not their job.
I mean that the people roaming around in the desert aren't the same ones that hassle you when you try to cross the border. The argument that we need to build a giant wall to free up border patrol agents is ludicrous regardless.
They walked all the way across Mexico but then built war machines once they got to our border. They wouldn't be able to build ladders or tunnels though
The money dedicated for those officers could be reallocated to more officers at ports of entry. If more drugs are coming through legal ports of entry, as your article stated, then we obviously need more enforcement there unless you like watching our citizens die of fentanyl overdose. All the federal vehicles around here have "customs and border patrol" written on them. Its not a ludicrous statement at all.

It was some guy on the radio, not an article. I don't know the answer to drug smuggling, but I feel that isn't it. It's not like you can just hire more cops to make crime go away.
We need to build a wall not to stop drugs where the wall is but to free up personnel to go get the drugs where they come in Or we could just spend money on additional personnel where the drugs actually come in at a fraction of the cost

Of course thats not it. Its a tool in an arsenal. We have a country. We should know who is here, and regulate what comes in and out. Every other civilized country in the world does it. Everyone including Nancy, Chuck and god Obama have all called for securing our borders. Terms that a democrat can understand. Can you imagine how many Russian spies will infiltrate the US if we don't secure our borders?

They did an interview with a guy on NPR, I think it was in Laredo but I couldn't remember. They used to come across the border and shop and work, then a fence was built. They just cut a hole in the fence and put hinges on it so they could close it behind them. These are people, not cows

False. First of all it is illegal to employ immigrants without documentation. So the only labor it would be theoretically crushing is under the table jobs that wouldn't abide by minimum wage anyway. We could theoretically fix your primary concern here simply by strictly enforcing our current labor laws. Why don't we do that? Second, the best studies on the subject show that illegals only compete with those people with less than a high school diploma, and for jobs that native born Americans typically don't want to do anyway. There isn't some huge group of legal Americans out there looking to bust their asses in the fields, but can't get work because there are so many illegals. In fact, these types of farms have actually been short on labor due to Trump's policies, and can't get people to do it.

More supply in low level labor = decrease price. In addition its an unregulated black market. If you "can't get someone to do it" then pay them more. Are you saying there isn't a price for farm labor? What you really mean is they aren't offering to pay enough.
