I’m pretty sure I’ve watched it at least a dozen times. I’m doing The Office right now to take a break from it but only because I feel like I have to.
I do a cycle of Friends, The Office and PandR on Netflix. Just put them on when I'm going to bed most nights. I slow to a crawl or just move on from Friends around season 6/7, do the same with The Office around season 8/9, never skip any of PandR.
I add That 70s Show, Cheers, and Frasier to the cycle. Rules of Engagement was in the cycle but it left Netflix yesterday
we are the same. Did PnR about 3 times, swapped to do Office, back to PnR, currently doing Friends but absolutely flying through. When we fall asleep and it plays another episode or 2 before it cuts off, we always go back and hit the PnR episodes we miss. We just fly right on through the Friends episodes so it can go faster.
Nothing wrong with Friends. Show was a juggernaut in the 90s. Still watch reruns a few times per week.
you can see how it doesn't hold up to PnR, Office, Good Place etc, with the laugh track and some of the weak story lines, but lets not act like we are sitting down and watching this in the middle of the day like we do with the previously mentioned shows. For a show that needs to be mindless, not draw you in and put you to sleep while a laugh here and there? It has a niche still
I thought it sucked too until I sat down and powered through it earlier this year. I never really gave it much of a chance due to how much it shows its age, but it has its moments. It's a good background noise show, and there are a ton of episodes. The amount of cameos and big names that make an appearance in it tell you it did something right.
the day they do that I stop my netflix service Spoiler and send a very weak willed response, as I will sign up probably a month later, but THEY WILL HEAR MY DOLLARS SPEAK FOR A MONTH
the slow burn on this joke is amazing. They are clearly improving the scene so Leslie keeps playing along but you can see the confusion on everyone else's face. Then he drops the punchline and everyone loses their shit. For me this is one of my favorite off the cuff jokes period.
If my wife is home you can bet on one of these being on friends, Gilmore girls, law and order SVU, and the most recent addition home improvement
Home improvement is fine with me as I have good memories watching with my dad growing up. These are often just stuff that get flipped in when she takes a nap or something. Gilmore girls is whatever but her mom had her at 17 and was single and they watched it together. It's not like I'm picking them apart for their hidden meanings and stuff.
Random Episode generator on Office or P&R is normally my thing. HIMYM sometimes, even though it isn’t in the same tier, I still enjoy it.
Oh I don’t actually use the plug in thing or whatever, I just go to a site and do a random episode so I have no idea
Honestly, all the neat browser plugins that are available for Netflix has made me ponder just getting some kind of cheap laptop or a raspberry pi to connect to the TV just so I can use it for Netflix.
Call it a hot take if you want, but as much as I loved the series finale, the episode when Chris and Ann moved away should have been the series finale.
That was a great moment and it certainly felt like a finale of sorts, but hell no. This is Leslie Knope’s show
I would like to recant this unfortunate statement and error in judgement. Still maintain I'd like to see a spinoff based on Ron Swanson running the national park. Probably would suck like most spinoffs, but I'd like to see the chance of it actually working out.
been watching random episodes the last couple days such a sneaky good line when andy is training for his police test and he is lying face first on the ground and says "i'll never be a cop...i'll have to be a robber"
The thing that made parks and rec incredible is the insane cast they had. If they could get a cast like that, National Parks could be awesome if they had good writers, but I don’t think Ron should be the main character, he should have a deputy director that’s the main character like Knope.
My favorite scene in the show happened in the same episode. When he crosses the finish line and stretches his head out at the end kills me.
In season 6, when Leslie asks Ben to prom by hiding confetti in his desk. When he opens the drawer and it explodes loudly and he starts screaming. I CANT HEAR ANYTHING AND IM DYING!
Leslie: So, it looks like we’re each going to have to be Santa for two hours, so everyone go to bathroom before so we can avoid what happened last year... Jerry: It was just farts
As a true fan of the show, I definitely wouldn’t say it’s a grind to watch season 1. The show certainly didn’t hit its stride until season 2, though
This. I also learned today that since P&R was originally going to be a spin-off that they didn't cast Amy Poehler as Jan because they wanted to save her for the Leslie Knope role.
Doing a re-watch with the wife who saw a few episodes when it aired but didn't stay with it. I told her that she'll fall in love with the show. We're just about done and we just finished the episode where Andy, Ben, and Ron try to get April an interview with Barney's accounting firm. When Barney relents and then Ben has to let him know that April doesn't want the job.... such a great laugh. The wife said that Ben's consistent accept and reject involvement with Barney's firm is one of her favorite through lines in the series.
