Well yea, I pretty directly said that was the feedback I received from people in the upper DC circle and acknowledged it's not like I work with her directly or anything. I just sell food and booze.
The biggest source of tension was actually her public threats to primary moderate Dems. While I share the desire of many here to see a more robust progressive caucus, it’s a big no-no in DC to threaten your colleagues careers, especially on your first day. Not many ppl noticed but she and Ro Khanna got their hands slapped by the Progressive Caucus when it abandoned them on the Pay-as-you-go provision. That came from straight from Leadership.
I'm just saying I'm not interested in giving a fuck about the hurt feelings of the establishment Democrats who haven't done their jobs in decades
Nah, man. College roommate dated a girl who worked in Hilda Solis office (Obama’s Commerce Secretary). That’s why I mentioned this immigration debate is so volatile and why Dems should push hard for Daca even if they have to give a little on wall. There are long simmering tensions within Hispanic Caucus about how immigration has been bungled over the last decade. But I digress.
Paul Ryan would have made a Presidential run probably in 2020 or 2024 if Trump never existed. He was right on the cusp and frankly probably still is but my thought is he was advised if he wants a real shot at it he has to back away now and let the country calm down post-Trump because Trump is so toxic no "disciple" or cohort of his will get elected to a major office anytime soon. That weaselly little fuckstick is waiting for people to forgive and forget, he'll pop up again I guarantee it.
This is exactly why people voted her in. "Rub people the wrong way." Every single last one of them can get fucked. She literally is standing in congress right now because she primaried one of the longest most tenured establishment Democrats in congress. Then immediately after getting elected you want her to tell people to not primary other establishment dems? How fucking hypocritical and dumb would that be?
Dude, it’s so much easier to say this shit on a message board. These ppl and those that work for them interact on a daily basis. You don’t just walk up and say “hey, nice to meet you. we’re gonna do our best to run you out of office.” Did you not read where I said AOC got abandoned by even the Progressive Caucus on Pay as you go?
And they got scorched for it by their constituents for caving so they came out with this bulls shit to pretend like they're listening
I don’t think most people realize how corrupt it actually is. Another term I’ve heard regarding AOC is “she’ll come around though” Meaning, yea she’s new but she’ll realize that this is all a money grab and nothing actually gets accomplished soon enough.
I think she was elected exactly because people do realize how corrupt it all is. Congress has a 20% approval rating.
Last thing we need is for her to be a milquetoast do nothing and say less. I couldn’t give two fucks if the establishment is rubbed the wrong way by her. They aren’t exactly killing it in doing what they’re supposed to be doing.
Don’t disagree with that, just moreso don’t think people are aware that every person they elect to change things ends up in the pockets eventually or they get voted out. Not the ideal example, but look at Rand Paul, dude basically abandoned half of his platform.
And AOC is younger than 30, was a bartender a year ago and has been thrust into a spotlight role that’s way beyond most freshman Congresspeople. She’s going to learn as she goes. Rather a newbie politician does this in the House than in the White House.
I meant from a competence/effectiveness standpoint, never said anything about her as being corrupt just that it is what happens to most peoeple that head to DC with bright hopes.
Yea if you are dependent on the establishment money and backing to win your elections then sure they will try to crush you if you don't get in line. But AOC literally got 0 news coverage, took 0 PAC money in her primary and literally had the democratic establishment rig the process against her and she still won the primary. She already dealt with all that and still overcame it. So the only thing that would cause her to "get voted out" would be if she backs down on the ideals of the people that voted her in.
We just always seem to be talking past each other. No one is saying that she should go sit in a corner and shut up. It’s just that Congress is a big machine with a lot of moving parts. Just because some dem member doesn’t publicly share your position doesn’t mean they are worthless. Remember they’ll ultimately vote how Nancy wants them to.
The fact you think hedge fund guys are smart and actually serve a purpose in the economy is alarming.
I didn’t say you said she was corrupt. You came in calling her a disingenuous/insincere idiot and then went to say her actual flaw is that she is young and idealistic.
Okay....and I don't have a single problem with her saying that people that are not supportive of tackling the existential problem that is climate change through a green new deal or other measures should be primaried. If those people want to cry about it they are welcome to get in line with those positions or deal with a potential challenger that does. If they beat those challengers then more power to them
To expand on my prior point, what if her constituents elected her to do exactly what you're describing, as seems to be the case? Should her loyalty be to them or to the ineffective and corrupt members of Congress?
There seems to be like this sort of cult attitude within finance circles that says if you're good at that job, then you must be smart enough to be good at any other job. Maybe it's because of the money involved? Maybe that's just how my friends who do that sort of work turned out
The way you attempt to talk down to people is obnoxious. We know that Democrats (and Republicans) tend to vote together. You don’t need to spell that out.
They need to justify why they should be getting paid what they're paid lest people catch on to the scam.
This is a terrible post and everyone who liked it should feel terribly. Buck up, we’re in for a long ride here.
You can call it what you want, but it’s not just me who thinks these schisms are counterproductive for the time being.
Yeah even as a world-class hater, I try to not hate on anyone's job. Honestly the hours seem awful. But it's not like they're out there trying to figure out how to land a car-sized thing on Mars.
