In the spirit of full disclosure, that was the royal “we.” I worked this morning and am at a bar solo while she’s shopping at the moment.
Aiming to do my bachelor party here over the summer and get an air bnb downtown. What area of town I should shoot for? Don't have any plans in mind yet other than going to a Cubs game, but everyone coming in would be flying so I would like to be walkable to things.
I would do old town or gold coast. As long as you are close enough to the train, you can get up and down the city pretty easily with public transit & uber.
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/15656999?location=Chicago, IL, United States&guests=1&adults=1&s=5Sm88asd This spot is nearby my place. It seems like it's kind of a bachelor party factory based on the clientele I see on the weekends. Pretty central location in the city - easy access to walk through River North and the Chicago brown line stop is a block away. Pretty easy to get to Wrigley using the train system. Just don't play drinking games on the rooftop and wake me up at 3 AM is all I ask.
I have a guy putting up wallpaper in my house today. This fucker shows up with a radio and is blasting Mike North loud enough to hear it through the whole house. No way I would have picked this guy if I knew this was going to happen
First 3 days have been easy. The next 2 I don’t even know what to expect and I have to get from Millenium Park to River North(I usually walk but not likely tomorrow). Then I walk to train and ride to Midway Friday hoping my plane leaves.
It's gonna be brutal. I think the middle of next week is going to be even worse. We have actually had a pretty decent winter up until the past week
Walked .5 mile to dinner and back at Jake Melnicks last night. Cold but not dead. Waiting on the outdoor platform for the orange line as 4 trains passed in what feels like -23 wanted to die.
Was this the thread that had the bachelor party spot near where they lived? I looked and couldn't find it.
Looks like the state is going forward with selling the Thompson Center. Quite possibly the worst building in the city with hundreds of millions in deferred maintenance. Shockingly there are preservation groups that want to keep it.
Spent six hours there one day trying to secure a liquor license. Fuck that place I hope it burns in hell.
There's not many places you can get your license renewed, a double decker supreme, popcorn chicken and a one of a kind arts and craft jewelry under one roof.
They’re opening a Giordano’s in Dayton Ohio this week, excited to try it but is as good as Malnati’s? Guy on FB claims that Malnati’s and Giordano’s are the “McDonald’s” of Chicago pizza and there are several better options. I should link him to this page where several Chicagoans claim Malnati’s to be one of the best.
No They are both chains but all the popular pizza joints have multiple outlets. Lou's is my favorite version of true Chicago style out of the chains. I'm not a fan of Giordano's, I'll leave it at that. It's still pizza though so give it a try and if you like it that's all that matters. Pequods is amazing but I don't consider it the true Chicago style deep dish.
going to Cubs Dodgers in late April with a buddy or two. Did a Cubs game a few years ago, stayed in Boystown area and had a great weekend in Chicago. Is there a place/area to stay in that is prime for bar hopping or doing shit that is either close enough to wrigleyville or accessible via the transit? Trying to do something a little different than last time
As far as a hotel or air bnb? Hotel there are plenty of places in River North. Lots bars, its more of a bougie area, if youre looking for something different than boystown/wrigleyville. You can hop on the redline go straight to wrigley. Air BnB - Look at Southport area. 10 min walk from wrigley. More of neighborhood feel but close to the stadium.
Is all the stuff on Clark south of the stadium supposed to be done for this season? Haven't been up to that area since like last October.
Anybody have a line on a place for about 20 people near Lincoln Park? Would be for a Fri-Mon weekend in June or July. Trying to get the TMB discount, aka not pay all of the AirBnB fees & taxes Alternatively, links to any places you've stayed with a large group that you really, really liked
20 is going to be hard unless you are fine w/ half the group sleeping on the floor. Unlike Phoenix, there just aren't a whole lot of mansions in Lincoln Park that sit empty and can make $ on doing AirBnB. I did a quick search and only one property that fits that description: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/324665...6-14&check_out=2019-06-16&guests=1&s=8xQeHLju Lincoln Park will be tougher because its a lot of high property value homes and more families. If you go more to the near west side (Wicker Park, West Town, etc), it looks like your options will open up.
Yeah I have a ton of AirBnB options already bookmarked, thanks for looking though. More interested if someone knows someone who has properties that might want to skip the AirBnB part of the equation
I don't know a single person who has a house in the city that sleeps 20 let alone that would rent it. I get saving money but going through a service reduces the risk you get screwed over.
The crazy part is that the owner (CEO of United Automobile Insurance) is selling at a $20M loss to the ~$65M cost to acquire and build the house back a decade ago.
It's obviously a badass house but if I am spending $45M, $65M whatever it isn't for that house/location.
This is the place we ended up renting for the weekend, btw: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/29015114?guests=1&adults=1
Well you aren't getting that much space in gold coast and past that Burling is probably next in the pecking order of elite addresses in the city.
Went to Stephanie Izards new restaurant on Friday. Its Peruvian and in a hotel with a rooftop bar on Green St. Overall, really good food (not shocking) and one of the only places I've been that far west in the city that has rooftop bar that high-up. Will be a prime location for cocktails this summer.
