    Why was the crib terrifying?

Always followed the majority of this thread but have never participated...

Anyway JC Jr. for the majority of his life has always been a pretty good sleeper. He went through a regression at eight months but quickly came out of that.

He will be 18 months on 2/1. Starting at the beginning of December he began to sleep terribly. Zero issues getting him down in his crib but he would wake up 4-5 times a night and there was nothing that could really be done it appeared. My wife began bringing him into our bed to sleep with us which was a nightmare for all. He never could get comfortable and I usually ended up in one of the spare bedrooms. No matter what we tried it seemed it just kept getting worse.

It peaked last weekend when he started waking up an hour after going down. My wife and I were just hopeless and the energy level was completely gone. The two of us never fight or argue and we started getting short with each other. I was a broken man last week on Wednesday at work. I was dreading the thought of going home which is sad because besides at night he is the happiest and most fun little dude.

Last Thursday he woke up exactly an hour after he had gone to bed and I said to my wife do not go get him....I got this. I went in there and tried laying him down and he went absolutely crazy. Started crying so hard he began to cough. From there it sounded like he was choking. I wouldn’t budge a bit. Left the room for ten minutes and he continued to go crazy.

Went back in and kept laying him down and rubbing his back. Finally he stopped crying. Just sat there and stared at me. I picked him up and laid him down on his tummy and he didn’t move. I rubbed his back for 10ish minutes and he started snoring. The entire ordeal was about an hour.

I had to do it two more times that night but he kept fighting less and less. Friday night my wife went in only once and did the same. Last night he woke up once crying for about 30 seconds and put himself back to sleep.

I have never felt more relaxed and in better spirits. Obviously it could have been done sooner but we were so tired that any time we tried we gave up. It is amazing what a few nights of good sleep have done for not only my wife and I but him too.

RiotJR went through that phase right about 16 months I think. Best advice I got was to just not pick them up once they go into the crib. Go in and reassure them you’re there and they aren’t alone. Only stay in 3-5 minutes then go back out. Repeat with increasingly longer time between trips in. Took about 3 nights to completely break him of mom and dad coming in at night.

It is so exhausting. Yeah the first night was brutal seeing him reach out and want me to take him. Now on night five and our lives are completely different.

Our two month old with bad colic absolutely hated taking a pacifier. Apparently yesterday my wife decided she had had enough and sat there holding it in his mouth until he would accept it and by the time I got home from work he was taking one with no problem and it seemed to make him feel better and his crying was almost non-existent. He also slept about 5 hours straight for the first time ever.

well done, as othres have said, increase the time between spells when you go in. The book The Happy Sleeper even has you not go in and sooth at all, just crack the door, say your "loving phrase" of reassurance, and then close the door.

For instance, we would open the door, tell Baby Dahl, "Hey buddy, you're ok, mommy and daddy love you, we are right outside"

he would likely scream for 10-30 seconds after this cause he heard our voice, then pass out. It was a miracle worker.

As he's gotten older and we didn't have to do that, when he wakes up from a real bad dream and just needs some comfort we may walk in and rub his back a bit, but still say the same thing, then walk out.

Wake my daughter up for school today on her birthday. She just turned 6.

Me: you are six now...this is a big deal because now you can show your age with two hands
Her: I know (raises five fingers on one hand and the thumb on the other)
Me: (almost same time I show five fingers but my pointer). I guess you can pick the finger
Her: (gives me the middle finger). Just not this one. A little boy in my class told me this means something bad.

Cutest middle finger I ever got....
Me: You’re right. Happy Birthday. Who is this boy?

Little guy got his first round of vaccines on Friday. He didn’t even cry with his circumcision, so I figured he would be fine. I was wrong, and his blood curdling scream will be etched in my mind forever.

He followed it up with rolling from his stomach to his back though today, which was really cool to see.

we priced one with a place in OKC, ~25/hour with 8 hours typical, so looking at $200/night.

If my future vasectomy doesn't take and we are hit with a 3rd kid, i will start saving to get us this for the first 2 weeks of life. F that noise again

My 2 year old likely picked up a super mutant virus at Catch Air two weekends ago. It took about 4-5 days to incubate, but then he was sick as a dog Friday-Monday.

He passed it on to me and I woke up this morning with a 101* fever. I’ve been coughing up lung chunks all day and my chest burns like a motherfucker.

My 4 year old also came down with it today and has been fighting off a 104-105* fever in between Motrin/Tylenol. He went to urgent care...no flu, no strep, just a virus.

It’s going to be a long 48 hours.

I'm honestly surprised the neighbors haven't called the police on us since the kid acts like we're water boarding him as we try to give him eye drops.

Snoo took FOREVER to get here, but finally arrived yesterday (shipped the 23rd, but when you're waiting for sleep, that was brutal haha)

says it takes 3-7 days for kids above 7 weeks to adjust, but saw signs of hope already last night. Did a 4 hour stretch from 8:30-12:30 which is one of the longest he's ever had. He normally sleeps in the swaddles that allow his arms by his head, so he didn't like the snoo swaddle that strapped them at his sides/waist. Will see how he adjusts.

But I remain optimistic, will post more later as we go

Good luck, my kid was a terrible sleeper for over a year. It really took it's toll on us. I would pay twice what a Snoo costs to avoid that if/when we ever have a 2nd one.

our first really hit his stride after the 4 month regression and he could start sleeping on his belly. We can already tell we have another belly sleeper on our hands, as whenever we really need him to nap we lay down on the sofa/recliner and let him nap chest to chest on us while we watch some netflix. He conks out like that, but not old enough to do it in his bed yet

Had to check when I made this post; this thing is still going on some 2 weeks later. Minor recovery for a few days and then assuming a new cold. Same shit - no fever, just super congested and having trouble keeping bottles down.

Fun times in the momux household.

    Good news every one. .
We got updates, she has been confirmed to have focal seizures stemming from the right side of the brain. The EEG and video confirmed it. They are putting her on low dose seizure med, she is no longer npo because they are slammed with MRI, so she is getting the EEG removed and will have the MRI will happen tomorrow. We have a plan

Has anyone's child had to have ear tubes to drain fluid in the middle ear? Our 20 mo daughter had a hearing test today since she's behind a little bit on her language skills and they said she has a bit of hearing loss due to fluid buildup behind the ear drum. I know this is typically done for kids with frequent ear infections, which she has had probably 4 or so in the past year, but I'm wondering if any of you have had to deal with hearing loss specifically due to this.

My oldest got tubes at 13 months, and my youngest is getting tubes in two weeks at 15 months. The oldest had some limitations on his hearing test pre-tubes which were eliminated with tubes. He's extremely verbal and was so early. My youngest indicates only slight hearing impairment from the collected fluid, but is not as advanced verbally as his older brother at the same stage. Both had about a solid 6 week period of on-off ear infections which led to the decision to get tubes.

Was it done for just ear infections or did y'all have hearing tests when you were little that indicated the need for tubes?

Not directed at me, but I couldn't tell you whether the ENT would prescribe tubes if a kid is only experiencing some hearing loss or only ear infections. My kids each had both. If its even remotely medically justified, I imagine your doctor would do it if you insisted, but I'm not a doctor so please don't ask me any doctor question.
