I’ll add to this that “Hawaiian food” isn’t that bougie anyway. Things like poke, laulau, loco moco, etc... are good but they’re not fancy. And the good hole-in-the-walls aren’t just cheaper, it’s better food too. Save your expensive meals for local stuff like lobster, axis venison, wagyu; or use them on non-Hawaiian or fusion joints.
I agree - for instance, Loco Moco at a hotel restaurant isn't worth $22 nor better than the $10 one you can get from a local stand.
In Paris, start every conversation with a local with "parlez vous anglais? or they might be rude to you
A couple things for Paris. Go to the Louvre in the evening on a day it's open late. We went after dinner on a Wednesday and didn't stand in line at all. Notre Dame has kiosks where you get a timed ticket to go up the towers. If you go early in the day you'll have your pick of ticket times. Biggest tip for Notre Dame though is this...when you get let in, you climb some stairs to a shop where you either purchase tickets or show your museum pass. Each entry time lets in around 20-30 people so it takes a few minutes for everyone to get checked in. Once you're set, linger back by the door that you walked into the shop so that you're at the front of the pack when they give you the go ahead to continue up the stairs. This will prevent you from getting stuck behind the large group as the stairs are narrow and steep so people are very slow. We were at the top of towers it seemed like 10 minutes before the rest of the group made it up

this guys videos are good, watched them off and on for years but dug in when i found he did a ten part vietnam series
So, serious question, how would you handle this? I feel like I'd rather be arrested. I can't imagine I would stay on there 14 hours
I don't think I'd handle it well. I feel like the common sense thing there is to deplane and just have a strict section of the airport where passengers have to stay since there were no Customs officers. Obviously there are several issues with that theory but it seems like the rules should be allowed to be bent in extenuating circumstances such as this

I was there for 2 weeks this summer. It sucks it’s a little difficult to get there because it’s a nice little country. You can see the whole country in basically in 7-10 days. Kotor has a pretty sweet old town. Definitely do the hike up the fortress steps. Get out on the bay somehow. The hostel I stayed at had a party boat which was pretty disastrous. Ulincj has great beaches. It’s very undeveloped and untouched. Haven’t experienced anything like that anywhere. A lot of people go there to learn how to kite surf. Would have done that if I had the time and I wasn’t a poor backpacker. Durmitor National Park is home to my favorite hikes. I love this place. There’s a great hostel there that will hook you up with trail maps and transportation to the trails. I’d skip Bar and Budva, once you’ve been to Kotor you basically get the idea of the old towns. Plus those two places are overrun by dirty Russians. If you’re doing the hostel thing, there’s some good hostels apart of the Balkan Backpacker association. I can give you some names if you want. Or if you want more detail about anything else. PS fuck rakija. Never again.
It could just be the aforementioned hostel forces rakija down everyone’s throat until the whole boat was blacked out but rakija appears to be no ones friend.
Man Kauai was incredible, in the airport now. Could not have gotten luckier with the weather, it didn’t rain a drop. In the 80s the whole time—great break from the PNW winter. Actually liked Waimea better than Hanalei, but theyre both great. Can’t remember if it was FriendsofJtyler or CoastalOrange (all you Clemson bros are the same), but big shoutout for Polihale Beach and Awawaapuhi Trail. The hike was one of the best I’ve ever done. Will get a write-up this week, but go here with your spouse. Food was amazing, too. It is expensive AF tho
Great to hear that’s awesome! And those were my recs I can’t believe it didn’t rain at all. That’s impressive. I’ve gone twice and it rained for a part of almost every day. Did you go down on the ledge on Awawaapuhi? It’s a little sketchy but that view...
Every local we talked to mentioned how lucky we were with the weather. It was like summer. Barely any clouds, too. Just perfect. Got drinks at the St Regis last night—wow. Yea, we went all the way down. I’ve done some pretty gnarly hikes, but rarely where one misstep on a 1-2 foot wide ridge and you’re dead.... Got some amazing pictures and had the GoPro on, too. Will get it uploaded soon.
waikiki has incredible food of various asian cultures. marukame legit one of the best bowls of noodles i've ever had. just have to know what you're getting into, but i enjoyed it for two nights
I’m sure it’s part recently bias, but if/when I come back, I have zero desire to check out another island. Would 100% come back to Kauai. No real ‘city,’ hell I don’t think I saw a building over 3 stories. And still so much more of the island to see. I really want to climb one of the peaks. Only thing I noticed is not much of a nightlife, so may be different if you were solo or looking for a rage trip. But we would get loaded at dinner, asleep by 10-11, awake by 7 every day.
My Josko is from Croatia too. He's the host of the Split hostel that Arkadin and a few of us stayed at
that’s the best. awesome day. cocktails at sunset. not throw-up drunk but buzzed. home safe by 12. some sex. repeat.
does he come to America? This guy stays on siesta every summer. Maybe 29-33. they said heart attack but I’m thinking he OD’d.
Ours is older. But he has a crazy brother so nobody would be surprised if either of them just died one day
