Piper at the gates of dawn still had Syd Barrett. The Pink Floyd everyone knows stars with Atom heart mother or Meddle. I’d say start with Meddle and go chronologically
Animals, The Wall, and Dark Side are all amazing. Their earlier stuff with Syd Barrett is dope too. Much more of a psychedelic sound.
meddle dark side wish you were here animals the wall in that order. then drop some acid and hit the syd barrett albums
It’s not their best, and it’s certainly not a good place to start. Meddle is obviously the correct place to start.
I stand by what I said and to me they are interchangeable in this particular case. Octopus Garden Also not a huge fan of Maxwell's silver hammer or I want you but I wouldn't go as far as to call them throwaway or filler. Thanks on the Pink Floyd stuff all. I'm definitely interested in the Syd Barrett stuff, but I'll probably start with Meddle first and go from there.
The Kinks’ album run from Face to Face until Muswell Hillbillies is right there with Floyd and the Beatles’ run.
I can understand viewing OG and MSH that way, although I'm a fan of both. I Want You is one of my favorite songs on the album though. The guitar on that one is so smooth.
a two and a half minute ditty on a fifty minute album too much filler!!! what's the throwaway on sgt. pepper?
I can't believe I just read that someone thinks She's So Heavy is filler. God that's a jam. St. Paul and The Broken Bones do an awesome cover I've seen live twice
I can listen to Sticky Fingers, Born to Run, and other classic albums and enjoy every song. I can't do that with any of the Beatles albums, even the great ones.
What amazes me is when they went solo John and Paul were still kicking out hits like Love Song, Blackbird, Imagine. 2 of the best musical minds ever.
That’s how good they were tho (Paul and John), you could hear Blackbird, silly love song, imagine and think they all were from any album from their later stuff. Timeless music.
He had the “advantage” of getting so many songs rejected for beatles albums the last few years that he just had a treasure trove of unreal material sitting around waiting to be released.
Rooftop show cool points aside, one of my favorite Beatles tracks and frankly underrated in their catalogue IMO
Me and my friend have been calling each other since high school every time we come across this heater organically. And we have a big Beatles vs Stones argument going since then too, but game recognize game.
For my taste. Not taking anything away from John and Paul, but I thought the below did it better and personally like it better. I get it and I certainly have no problem with people putting them in a 1 spot. Just not 1 spot for me Grateful Dead The Animals Rolling Stones Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Otis Redding Elvis Dylan
