He was Rafa’s number 1 in the summer and in January, but the belief was Newcastle would never stump the fee. This story coming from the Atlanta side makes me hopeful, but since it’s Newcaslte I’m skeptical. Word is Newcastle and Almiron had terms agreed to for a month or so, it was just price
Id take it, with confidence, that Almiron left the Atlanta facility and is en route to Newcastle for his physical.
I have not and been looking. Have always felt like the # would end up in the middle around £19m. Will probably have to come from the Newcastle side. There was a reason all the agent noise re: inter and napoli was happening. That reporter wont roll with something unless he knows. Could always end up like Jordan Lukaku but Almiron is in fine health, etc. Id bet on the report being accurate.
Ordinarily I’d agree but they cane out and said they have between 200-300million in a “war chest” and are going to completely overhaul the squad over the next year, mostly this summer, so who knows.
Seems the new go-to move is to play in China for a year or two and then bounce back to Europe. Seems smart - cash in and then get back to competing. Worked well for Axel Witsel at the very least.
Whoever has been making all those good moves at Monaco must be gone. This is as good of an idea as hiring a man with no experience or humility to be your manager. While Gary Neville was a ridiculous choice because of no experience and not speaking Spanish, at least he hadn’t been treated like a god and could do no wrong since he was 20 years old.
Ned Yocho Are there feelings of MLS skepticism amgonst the fan base with Almirón? I’m sure not being American will subdue that a little. There must be some fans that reveled in Jozy Altidore’s Sunderland disaster that might be weary. So much will be riding on this move because if he isn’t a complete success, Ashley might never buy a decent player again.
Most are excited because Almiron is the guy Rafa wanted all along, and that he’s the club record signing.
He reminds of me of the former Newcastle starlet Santiago Muñez that was sold to Real Madrid much too early.
A lot of Arsenal fans might feel conflicted about this but it was Henry in the 98 World Cup that really got me into following Soccer. I remember thinking that this guy is the coolest dude on the planet. And that was when I learned that France had black people (I was 9 years old which was long before I mastered my European history) Lucky for you he didn’t go to Arsenal until a year after that or else you might have been stuck with me.
We'll turn down 50+ for Willian then get out-negotiated by Real so Hazard goes for less than he's worth Unbelievable tremendous incredible deals!
Uhhhh what? "FC Barcelona has officially announced the signing of 20-year-old fullback Emerson from Atlético Mineiro for 12 million euro. The club also said he will play on loan to Real Betis and has signed for 5 seasons. Mundo Deportivo had reported that Barcelona and Betis collaborated on the signing. Emerson, who has been called up to Brazil’s U-20 squad, would first play on loan to Betis until the end of the season, at which point both Barça and the verdiblancos would pay six million euro each to exercise an obligatory purchase clause. From then on, Emerson would remain at Betis unless Barcelona decided to activate a clause they have to purchase him outright for 9 million euro, which would be an option available for two seasons. However, in the official announcement, Barcelona did not discuss any deal of that sort. They simply stated they purchased his rights for 12 million and would loan him to Betis."
read that toulouse was burying him, so it makes sense to pay a million or whatever to make sure he doesn't keep wasting time with no development
Oh man, you missed this years past. It used to be close to the single best day of television every year. All timer here, but there are more.
Haha fuck you Leeds. Daniel James is staying in Swansea. That was a nerve wrecking final transfer day. Swansea have to be the most inept club. Give me Mike Ashley and we will give you our American owners.
