luke is just awful. i will always love him for the uk shot but i would be lying if i said i am not excited for him to move on. he’s like a shaky freshman out there
Think it's just a built in mentality from being UK's in state rivals. Every time there's been a situation where it looks like a foul benefiting you guys could occur but doesn't they lose their minds, regardless of what actually happened. See the same thing at NCSU.
some unc fan beside me kept insisting that we lost to louisville the same weekend as duke beat uva. told him nah and he bet me $10 it’s been a very good day
Tobias the Highlands is poppin tonight your crew better not have went to tourist trap 4th street live like sum fagguts.
holy shnikies we actually snagged ourselves one of those 4 star linebacker things Ethan West out of Virginia Bankz
Very nice... Virginia is stacked with talent this year. I'm not surprised you guys are active in the state. Mack is an amazing recruiter you guys will see a big increase in talent over the next couple of years.
Hey guys. Got accepted into a PhD program at Chapel Hill starting this fall What are suggestions for places to live (coming with gf and dog) and any other cool things to know about the area are always appreciate.
When I was in grad school I lived here and liked it. It sure as hell wasn’t as nice back then as what’s in the pictures now though. http://www.laurelridgechapelhill.com/ What program are you going to be in?
Gotcha. Yeah I thought where I lived was pretty convenient and actually avoided a lot of the traffic in CH (at that time anyway), but I was in the business school so I just shot up to the fringe of campus rather than having to travel into the meat of it (which I’m pretty sure is where the Poli Sci dept is). Living off 15/501 is pretty flexible because you can do your shopping out in Carrboro, but still be a reasonable walk (~15 minutes?) to Franklin Street. Not sure what stage of life you’re in but the other option of course is to live out in a more “proper” neighborhood and rent a house. I don’t know much about that since I just went straight through and was mainly interested in continuing to party.
It'll be weird being on such a large campus as I'm coming from a 3000 student small liberal arts right now (Stetson actually lol). How would living in Raleigh be? Gf will probably be at NC State and I know its a bigger town. Would I be missing out on anything by not living in CH?
Raleigh > Chapel Hill wouldn’t be a great daily commute IMO but I’d assume there are places around RTP (in between both campuses) that are decent.
Raleigh to CH and CH to Raleigh are both miserable commutes. Maybe as a grad student you could go at off times though?
Congrats, you’ll love the town. Everywhere I lived was real undergrad heavy so probably not what you’re looking for. My brother and sister both lived in Morrisville in the middle of Chapel Hill and Raleigh and loved it.
I think Raleigh is a nightmare with Durham being only slightly better. I have a lot of friends that disagree with both those statements, but if I was working/studying in Chapel Hill I’d wanna be in the town. Since you’ve got the two of you, it might make more sense to do Raleigh and make the reverse commute, but it’s a bitch each way. That whole I-40 corridor is a mess all the way to Winston either direction during rush hour. It only gets worse the closer you are to Raleigh. If she lands Chapel Hill too I’d seriously consider finding a place there, you’ll spend more time stuck in traffic on your day-to-day than you’d gain in convenience on night/weekend outings. Especially if you aren’t living downtown Raleigh—it’s the difference between 30 and 15-20 mins. You’re not going to walk from a Morrisville or Cary or even ubering that often.
Thanks for the responses. Leaning toward staying in CH as it seems like a vibrant college town that I feel may be lacking in a bigger city like Raleigh. I hope to do a visit sometime next month so I’ll be back for some food recommendations and things to see outside of the standard tours.
Think if it was me, and my girlfriend was going to state I would definitely lean towards finding somewhere in the middle. South West side of Durham would be convenient to I40 or north east side of Cary/Morrisville area would work too. Would also weigh heavily if one of you would be commuting in rush hour times cause that person is going to be spending A LOT of time in traffic. For the past 5 years I have lived in Raleigh and had to commute to Chapel Hill about twice a week. Mornings weren't "too bad" and could make it in about 45ish minutes but afternoons there was no shot I was beating a hour. Also, when I say afternoons I basically mean from about 3pm till after 6pm. For reference that drive takes me about 30 minutes with no traffic on the weekends.
pulling asante out of va would be so big. finish with him asaboro plus the chapman kid we already got and i would be thrilled also asante's announcement is timed perfectly with the start of the blue zone signing day festivities
Asaboro got all antsy in his pantsy, just watched his video for the first time and holy balls can that monster move
and we've got low adding in to the Asante vibes, getting a little excited guys edit: Virginia T mod also saying he's hearing UNC
I would look at Cary. I think it's one of your best bets for you and gf to have a manageable commute.
