Bleacher report 7 round mock for us: The Pick: Montez Sweat, EDGE, Mississippi State Montez Sweat was one of the most impressive players at the 2019 Reese's Senior Bowl, showing off speed and power from the edge that could make him a top-10 pick in the upcoming draft. There's also the off-field side to his story: Sweat left Michigan State as a sophomore after dealing with disciplinary issues. A stellar week at the Senior Bowl where he dominated practices can help remove any doubt about his mindset. For Sweat, the predraft process is huge. He has obvious on-field talents that would make him a priority draft pick at a key position, but he has to nail his interviews and workouts to prove to teams that he's dialed in mentally. The Dolphins can afford to take a small risk on Sweat given his athleticism, their need for a pass-rusher and the addition of Brian Flores as head coach. If Flores and his staff can connect with Sweat, he has the tools to be a double-digit sack artist immediately. 48. Miami Dolphins: Jarrett Stidham, QB, Auburn 78. Miami Dolphins: Gerald Willis III, DL, Miami 109. Miami Dolphins: David Long, CB, Michigan Miami Dolphins: Trayveon Williams, RB, Texas A&M Miami Dolphins: Preston Williams, WR, Colorado State Miami Dolphins: Keegan Render, OC, Iowa I’d be pretty damn happy with that
Im interested to see how he measures at the combine, Miami listed him at 6'4 280 and he was 6'2 out of HS. Perhaps he grew the 2 inches which is certainly possible or hes closer to 6'2 than 6'4 which will hurt his draft stock
If we truly are tanking, the goal would clearly be to take a QB next year with a high pick. Why would we waste a second round pick on a QB? Think we will see a lot of trading down for the Phins and stockpiling for the rebuild and the 2020 draft. Which is what we should have been doing for the last 3 years.... This is a good draft for us though because there is a shit ton of DL talent so we are kinda lucky that we might be able to get a DL talent that would be top 10 in some drafts at 15-20 this year. The position depth this year seems to meet our needs. Also if we don't take an interior OL in the first 2-3 rounds I am gonna freak. We need to quit fucking around and actually invest in the OG/C position and quit trying to fix major problems with 5th and 6th round picks.
In the next two drafts I'd love to see us 1) grab a QB 2) Remake the front 7 3) Remake the interior OL as best we can Wam bam Super Bowl
worst possible timing to "hopefully" be 1-15 or 2-14 next season and the super bowl is in Miami a month after our season ends but so be it
Interesting to see what we do in free agency, I know Ross said that he only wanted to go after young free agents DE Trey Flowers is someone thats been mentioned a lot due to the new england connection, he's going to be 26 in august DT Grady Jarrett is 26 and out there but may be franchise tagged DE Dante Fowler seemed to have played a lot better with STL and hes still only 24
Philly has massive salary issues coming up this year...they are 18mm over the cap as of today, most of any team in the league. I would love us to look at LB Jordan Hicks who is 26 and he's been pretty damn good his whole career. Also think he wouldn't cost top dollar...he certainly wouldn't be cheap but not breaking the bank. He has been injury prone though, only played 16 games 1/4 years and more than 12 only once. Kiko has been pretty terrible and will be on the cut line this year (50/50 chance) and may be time to move on from McMillan...though Flores may want to give him another year to look at him in his system since he's cheap. Kiko though is probably gonna have to take a paycut or get cut. Not a great year for OG free agents unfortunately. Young DL guys are gonna be paid more than we can likely afford
It'll be interesting to see what kind of strategy Flores has with his players. Pats defense has a lot of players who individually are average but in the new england system they are put in the position to make plays. Think about how many players on that defense last night are considered "stars", you've got gilmore and maybe flowers...thats about it.
I like him a lot after seeing his interview (granted in-house with Bokamper (sp?) Comes across as humble, unlike pompous ass Gase
I just want a guy who is going to feed the ball to drake Gase’ issue with drake was so fucking annoying. He’d come in for a play, gain 15 yards and then we wouldn’t see him again for a quarter
We are the king of creating coaching/front office positions that nobody has any idea what they actually do
I like his FF and TFL numbers a lot. I saw he only started five games. Is that right? What took the team so long to start him? https://floridagators.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10992
Would imagine that is wrong but if it’s not he didn’t start due to us just having a certain package on the field he wasn’t in on on the first defensive play of the game
Armando saying if a teams willing to give UF a first for Howard we should move him I agree, 2 1sts this year would certainly speed up our rebuilding job Of course that’s assuming we don’t completely tuck up both picks
