I think it's the common case of people caring too much about what other people think and/or getting their feelings hurt when other people don't agree with them. If you're on a diet, it's working for you, you feel good, and you're not hurting anyone else...go for it. I don't think there's a single subject out there that everybody universally agrees on. There are always different points of views, etc. Who gives a shit if someone says the diet you're on is shitty IF IT WORKS FOR YOU?
i get articles in my google feed now about how KETO WILL FUCKING KILL YOU and then i click on the article and its talking about the symptoms of keto flu
Keto is blowing up. I do think it’s a fad in the sense that a bunch of people are “doing the keto diet” without knowing anything about it and really aren’t doing it at all. I also think a lot of those people will barely even remember what it is in a few months to a year. But this latest wave has likely cemented it as a diet option that people will be utilizing from here on out. The results are just too good from both a personal weight loss standpoint and an overall health standpoint. The data is out there now.
What did your normal diet consist of? I feel pretty gross when I go heavy on bread, junk foods, sodas, fast food, etc... I don’t gain weight easily, but eating a bunch of pizza, fried chicken, mac’n’cheese, burgers, doritos, or whatever will leave me lethargic and bloated. Because I can get away with it, I’ve had a tendency to eat poorly in the past. Over the past couple years I’ve put real effort into changing my dietary habits and have gotten pretty good about only buying fresh produce and limited dining out. I’ve experienced a lot of the same benefits of Keto, without any of the negatives, and no concerns about long-term risks or falling off the wagon. Obviously some of those in this thread were fairly clean prior to doing Keto, but I’d wager a good percentage weren’t. It’s not surprising at all that switching from a traditional American-crap diet to Keto would make someone lose weight and feel better, but it doesn’t necessarily make it healthy or sustainable.
I've been low-carb for about 6 weeks or so, and now whenever I eat a piece of bread it feels like a brick in my stomach. For me there hasn't been much weight loss, about 5lbs or so, but I can tell a huge difference in how i feel.
My parents did a diet when I was in college that worked great for them that was essentially low carb but included half a grapefruit with each meal, and you did 12 days on the diet and then 2 days of eating anything you want, then start back. It worked out to where if day 1 was a Monday you essentially were off the diet every other weekend, and that was an essential part of it. It made no sense to me but they lost on average of 5 pounds a week.
and speaking of cheat days I'll probably end of cheating a bit tomorrow as a.tramp is hosting a TMB get together. Might even drink a beer or two we'll just have to see...
Not sensationalist at all: Keto diet could help you lose weight ... and destory your life! https://www.thrillist.com/amphtml/eat/nation/is-keto-diet-bad-for-you-ketogenic-side-effects
Our collective reactions to bread is another preperation issue to a large extent imo. A sprouted spelt sourdough fresh out of the oven with ghee should sit well with most, but who has time for that shit in this world.. Want to get a blood ketone meter to prove to myself you can be fat adapted while not being so restrictive, but can't really get over how silly it seems on some levels
Been doing pretty good in Vegas. Been skipping the breakfasts at my class (nothing but baked goods). Lunches have been legit (pork lion and sautéed veggies yesterday, “taco bar” today so went with big plate of beef, cheese and avocados). Drama time, at the happy hour last night it was just beer and wine and I had 2 Guinnesses (Guinnii?), that’s like 40 damn carbs. Tried washing it out with lots of whiskey afterwards. About to go to today’s happy hour. #PrayForMyKetones
Made a mistake grabbing dinner tonight. Was famished because I didn’t have any time for lunch today and my wife was bitching at me about where we were going to eat. Asked for no corn on my salad at CFA, but didn’t ask for grilled instead of fried chicken. Highest anount of carbs in a day (51) since Christmas. Interested to see how I feel, both tonight and tomorrow.
Did you try just cutting out the bread itself and not fretting over fruits, veggies, dairy, or non-bread grains?
Yes. I’ve experimented with all sorts of dietary changes and how my body feels and performs. Plus certain foods trigger more consumption and don’t satiate at similar levels. This works for me and limits cravings.
I think that is very important. More power to the ppl who can calorie count, be miserable, and lose. But many ppl need a diet where they remain happy and normal while losing. I’ve had problems staying in Ketosis but have made some adjustments that are working. I use recipes from this thread. anyway, someone I trust was pushing a parasite/bacteria cleanse product because of how much meat I eat...
I don't track anymore. I just eat what I want within the keto regimen. Before I'd track anywhere from 1700 to 2200... I'm not much help with this reply.
Down 20lbs as of today. Approx 10 lbs away from the first milestone I want to reach, which is getting back to the weight I was last year at this time.
I am. Was 271 end of Sept. Christmas Eve 243...226 this morning. As mentioned earlier in this thread I started at 307 mid-April.
I’ve never tracked, and I think it’s detromental to a lot of people trying to start out on this diet. Give them the basic tenants and let them worry about tracking once they get things on the rails and just want to go faster.
keep it light a couple times a month, but low 4000s otherwise. Working 250+ hours of heavy physical labor a month and probably not eating enough tbh
