He is a fucking idiot, but I think you'd have to be an even bigger idiot to assume that he doesn't know about the Trail of Tears -- or how to fit in dog whistles. I mean, the guy had the portrait of Jackson put in the Oval Office immediately after becoming president. Heck, he even visited Jackson's burial grounds in Tennessee shortly after inauguration.

I would believe someone fed him the idea of making a joke including the trail of tears to which he thought was just hilarious beucse it's a native American reference but he's too stupid to actually know what it is.
it's absolutely intentional. perhaps maybe 5 years ago he had no idea what the trail of tears was but there's no way it's been mentioned or joked about within his circles in the as he's spread this warren/pocahantas. he may still not know exactly what the trail of tears is but he certainly knows that phrase and that it relates to native americans.
I’m old enough to remember when the DSA refused to endorse Clinton in the fall of 2016, the last big “choose one” moment. They actually gave the green light to support Stein. They best not fuck around in 20 if/when their favored candidate once again is not the Democratic nominee. They can make a difference on the margins with turning out the youngs, and it can’t be for a 3rd party this time.
